    BALDWIN CITY -- Lowell Arthur Gish, 73, Baldwin City, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at a Lawrence hospital.
    Mr. Gish was chairman of the education department at Baker University from 1963 until he retired in 1995. He later taught and served in various capacities at Haskell Indian Nations University. He began his career as a teacher and coach at Wilmore in 1949. He served as the elementary school principal in Kinsley for three years and then as superintendent of the Wilmore Schools until he moved to Ottawa in 1956. He was principal at Ottawa Junior High School for several years before he joined the staff at Baker University. He also served in the Merchant Marine in 1945 and 1946.
    He was born June 30, 1927, in Greeley, Colo., the son of Lee Nash and Rose Bedford Gish. He was raised in Kingman and graduated from Kingman High School. He earned a bachelor's degree at Southwestern College in Winfield in 1949 and later earned a master's degree and his doctorate at The University of Kansas.
    Mr. Gish was a member of First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City, Phi Delta Kappa and the Douglas County Democratic Party.
    He married Enola McClaren on Aug. 14, 1948, at Lewis. She survives.
    Other survivors include two sons, David Gish, Topeka, and Stephen Gish, Tonganoxie; two daughters, Juanita Reiter, Hillsboro, Ore.; and Diana Gish Truckfield, Barrow, Alaska; and 10 grandchildren.
    Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church. Inurnment at Oakwood Cemetery near Baldwin City will be private. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Osborne Chapel on the Baker University campus.
    Memorial contributions may be made to the Lowell Gish Memorial Fund to benefit the Education Department at Baker University and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Baldwin City.

    State Legislator Larry Gish Dies; Services Monday
    State Re. Larry Gish, D-Stillwater, died Friday from cancer. He was 61.
    Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Stillwater.
    Gish was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 1986. He underwent treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., in 1987.
    He was born in Little River, Kan. Gish earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Kansas.
    After holding city manager jobs with Arkansas City, Kan., and Marceline, mo., he moved to that same position with Stillwater in 1966.
    During his tenure as city manager, he was instrumental in the creation of the Stillwater Utility Authority and of lake McMurtry, a major water supply source for the city.
    He became one of the youngest presidents of the International City managers Association in 1978.
    He started up a consulting firm for cities in Oklahoma and Kansas, then ran for and won in 1983 the state House seat once held be ex-speaker Dan Draper.
    The state Capitol celebrated “Larry Gish Day” in February with the House unanimously passing a resolution recognizing his accomplishments.
    The ailing Gish attended the ceremony in a wheelchair, but declared to a crowded gallery, “This is not my swan song. I’m going to be back day after day after day.”
    He is survived by his wife Barbara, a son, David Gish, and a daughter, Susan Lampe.

    George Merlin Gish, 63, of Merriam, Ks., died January 29, 1995 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Church services will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, at the Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, Kan. Friends may call from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. The family suggest contributions to Cancer Action, Inc. Mr. Gish was born March 20, 1931, at Little River, Kan., the son of Lee Nash and Rose (Bedford) Gish. He has lived in the Shawnee Mission area since 1958. Mr. Gish was a mathematics teacher at Shawnee Mission North High School for 37 years, serving as assistant football coach for 29 years and head track coach for 35 years. At the 1994 Shawnee Mission North Relays, the Shawnee Mission School District name the track facility “The Merlin Gish Track”. He was nominated for the Kansas State High School Activities Hall of Fame and was selected for induction in May, 1995. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1954 with a Master’s Degree and was awarded the “Ormand Beach Trophy” for most valuable football player during the e1952 season and started every game as line backer, 1951-52. He was a member of the Kansas Coaches Association serving as treasurer for three years; was a life member of the National Education Association, member of the Kansas National Education Association, the Shawnee-Mission National Education Association, and the Lions club. Mr. Gish was a member and Deacon of the Village Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Stuart Allan Gish in 1959. He is survived by his wife, Myril A. (Culp) Gish of the home; three daughters, LeAnn Wood of Houston, Tex. Linda James of Lenexa, Kan., and Lisa O’Toole of Overland Park, Kan., a brother, Lowell Gish of Baldwin, Kan., and two grandsons.

    Nancy Lee Gish Dies Saturday
    Nancy Lee Gish, sixteen week old daughter of city Manager and Mrs. Larry Gish, died Saturday afternoon at St. Luke’s hospital in Kansas City after an illness of about eight weeks.
    Services and burial were Monday afternoon at Hutchinson, Kansas. Besides the parents of this city, Nancy is survived by a sister, Susan of the home.

    Alan Blair Gish Dies In Kansas
    Alan Blair Gish, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gish, Arkansas City, Kan., died Thursday, Sept. 9 in a hospital there. Alan Gish was five years old the day of his death. Lawrence Gish formerly city manager in Marceline.
    He had attended two years of nursery school, and was to have started kindergarten this year.
    Survivors include his parents, a sister, Susan and a brother, David, both of the home; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. William N. Blair, Hutchinson, and Mr. and Mrs. Lee N. Gish, Augusta.
    He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Lee, in February of 1969.
    Those wish to contribute to the American Leukemia Society may do so through the Jess Rindt & Son Memorial Chapel.
    Funeral services were Sept. 11, in Arkansas City. Burial was in the Sterling, Kan., cemetery.
