    Former Resident Of Beulah Vicinity Dies
    Services were held at the Beulah Reformed Presbyterian church Monday, Sept. 6 at 10 a.m., for Mrs. Emma Zella Crawford. She was a former resident of the Beulah vicinity, and died at Fairfield, Nebr., Sept. 2. The services were conducted by Rev. J.E. McElroy. Interment taking place in the Beulah cemetery. The obituary:
    Emma Zella, daughter of William J. and Hannah McKeown Crawford was born near Morning Sun, Iowa, Dec. 3, 1877, and departed this life Sept. 2, 1948, at the age of 70 years and 9 months.
    When she was seven years old she moved with her parents to Nuckolls county, Nebraska. At an early age she united with Beulah Reformed Presbyterian church. She resided in the community until her marriage to Charles E. Moranville, June 10, 1914. They established their home in Hemingford, Nebr. To this union were born four children. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Esther.
    Those who mourn here passing are Charles of Sterling, Colo., Walter of Denver Colo., and Ruth Tjaden of Madrid, Nebr., ; also two brothers, one sister and five grandchildren, and very many other relatives and friends.
    As long as her health permitted, she was active in serving her Master and very faithful in the study of the Holy Bible. She loved music and inspired her family and others in its use.

    In the 1930 US census all four of Charles and Zella Moranville's children are in the household of her father, William J. Crawford. In the 1940 US census all four children are in the household of their uncle Walter Crawford.


    Esther Zella, daughter of Charles E. and Zella Crawford Moranville was born at Hemingford, Nebr., on March 31, 1915, and August 19, 1942, at the Mary Lanning hospital (sic) in Hastings her spirit returned to God who gave it.

    Upon the death of her father in 1926 (sic) she with her two brothers and one sister came to make their home with their grandfather, the late W.J. Crawford, Bostwick, Nebraska.

    At the age of 12 years she united with the Congregational church at Hemingford and a year later transferred her membership to the Beulah congregation of the Reformed Presbyterian church, where she continued a loyal member as long as she lived. She was much interested in spiritual things.

    For the past eight years she has been an invalid but her patient and cheerful disposition has been a satisfaction to those in the home and an inspiration to all who knew her. During the past fourteen years she has read a portion of the Bible daily, missing only a few times when her health did not permit.

    She enjoyed the newspapers, magazines and books. She loved music and was a capable musician. The radio's musical programs gave her much cheer. All these kept her mind active and she was interested in all the events of the community and the world.

    She leaves her mother, Mrs. Zella Moranville, Hemingford; two brothers, Charles of the United States Navy, and Walter of Denver, Colo., and a sister, Ruth of the home; and many relatives and friends.

    The funeral was held at Beulah Reformed Presbyterian church on Friday, August 21, at 10:30 a.m. with Albert Klawitter in charge. Rev. J.E. McElroy of Superior Reformed Presbyterian church, assisted Rev. R.C. Adams, the pastor, in conducting the service. Pallbearers were: Ted Schott, Forest and Orval Childress, Vernon and Glenn Piepho and Lloyd Dillon. Burial at Beulah.

    Funeral services for Esther Moranville, who passed away last Wednesday, were held at the Beulah church Friday morning at 10:30 with the pastor, Rev. R.C. Adams, officiating assisted by Rev. J.E. McElroy of Superior. Interment was in the Beulah cemetery. The obituary:

    Notes:

    Ruth Tjaden, 78, was born Sept. 10, 1920, at Hemingford,
    Neb. She was the third of four children born to Edward and Zella Crawford Moranville. After her father died the family moved to the Crawford farm in Nuckolls County near Mt. Clare.

    She attended Antelope rural school and for her first two years of high school she rode a horse to Mt. Clare High School, three miles from the Crawford farm. She finished her high school at Nelson and graduated as the valedictorian of her senior class. She then taught rural school in Nuckolls County for three years before attending Kearney State Teachers College. After receiving her teacher's certificate she taught at the Madrid School.

    She married Ed Tjaden, at Francis, Kan. on Aug. 22, 1946. They made their home on a farm east of Madrid. Ruth quit her teaching while she raised her family but resumed again and taught at Madrid and Wheatland schools from 1963 until she retired in 1976.

    She died at the Perkins County Community Hospital, Grant, Feb. 20, 1999.

    A member of the Madrid United Methodist Church and the U. M. W. , she was active with Bible study. She was also a member of the Madrid American Legion Auxiliary.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Esther and, two brothers, Charles and Walter.

    She is survived by her husband, Ed; one daughter, Mrs. Joe Smalley (Lois), Reno, Nev.; three sons, Lindell, Scottsbluff, Don, Lincoln, Neb., and Ken, Hastings; and four grandchildren.

    Services were Tuesday at the Madrid United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Jorgensen officiating.

    Burial was in the Madrid Cemetery.
