Lois Caroline McKeown, 95, died at l0:14 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. The funeral service for Mrs. McKeown will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 7 at Prugh's Chapel. The Rev. Mike Orthel will officiate. Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded. Interment of ashes will be at Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis, at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends before the service from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Stain Glass Window Fund at First United Methodist Church.

Lois Caroline McKeown, 95, passed away at l0:14 pm Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, IA.
Born March 23, 1917 in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Edward A. and Caroline Vahle Pepmeyer .
She married Lewis Everett McKeown on October 4, 1940 in Burlington, IA. He died February 15, 1988.
A 1935 graduate of Burlington High School, Lois' first job was at Kresge's Dime Store, and then she became secretary at Crescent Electric. After her daughter was born, she became secretary to the West Burlington School Board until 1957.
After a move from West Burlington to Burlington, she began work as a secretary for the Iowa Soap Co, and after several ownership changes, retired from U.S. Borax.
A life member of the First United Methodist Church, she taught and was secretary in the Sunday School for 13 years. During her retirement, she was church treasurer for 19 years, retiring at age 90. She was a long term member of the Sarah circle.
Survivors include one daughter Sue (Henry) Hentzel of Fort Madison. One son Joel (Mary) McKeown of Fishers, IN.
Four grandchildren: Julie (Eric) Poole, Dallas, TX; David (Melinda) Hentsel, Burlington; Matthew (Leslie) McKeown, Lexington, KY; and Ryan (Lori) McKeown, Zionsville, IN.
Nine great grandchildren: Claire and Scott Poole, Hannah and Jenna Hentzel, Benjamin and Reagan McKeown, and Allison, Anna, and Nicholas McKeown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, and one brother.
Interment will be at Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis, IA
