Dickerson and Eula Mae Morgan Dickerson. She was a member of Corner Stone Fee Will Baptist Church and a retired RN from Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Corner Stone Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Cook officiating. Interment will be at Lowe’s Creek Cemetery north of Branch under the direction of Smith Mortuary in Charleston. | 2312 | Lost Flier is Decorated Relatives of Staff Sgt. Elder Doyle Dickerson, have been informed here of the posthumous award of the Air Medal and three Oak Leaf Clusters to the Flying Fortress tailgunner and flight engineer, who was reported killed in action over Germany Oct. 8. In a letter to the 20-year-old flier's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William V. Dickerson, 1223 North D Street, Brig. Gen. Robert H. Dunlop, acting Adjutant General, wrote: "By direction of the President, the Air Medal and three Oak Leaf Clusters, indicating second, third and fourth awards of the same decoration, have been awarded posthumously to your son. Instructions are being forwarded to the eighth service command, Dallas, Tex., which will select an officer at a nearby air corps installation to make arrangements for presentation of the decoration to you." No report has been received here from the Dallas headquarters concerning the arrangements. Doyle Dickerson, born in the Vireton community, near Blocker, in Pittsburg County, Dec. 11, 1922, was on a combat mission over Germany when his plane was hit and several parachutes were seen to open when the aircraft started down. The Red Cross reported from Germany the flier's death. She was born on March 26, 1931 in Rockcastle County the daughter of the late Arthur and Media Harris Turner. She was a homemaker, enjoyed doll collecting and fishing and was a member of the Baptist faith. Survivors are: one son, Wayne Wilmott of Brodhead; three daughters, Linda Bishop (Dale) of Somerset, Donna Silcox (Mike) of Brodhead and Lisa Adams Samuel (William) of New Albany, Ind. and one brother, James Turner of Indianapolis, Ind. Seven grand children, and six great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Everett "Chalkie" Wilmott; three brothers, John and Douglas Hoskins and Leon Harris and two sisters, Bonnie Campbell and Alice Ross. She was born in Livingston, Kentucky on August 8, 1923 to Bennett and Clara (Pruitt) Mullins. On September 27, 1947 in Hamilton she married Ruford Gentry, who preceded her in death in 2009. Mabel was retired from Hamilton City Schools. She was a member of the East Hamilton Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Sue (Jeff) Black; grandchildren, Ethan Black and Rachel (Chris) Stall; sisters, Helen Swanner and Pauline Adams; and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Gentry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruford Gentry; son, Tom Gentry; sisters, Marie Ponder and Berniece Chandler; and her parents. | 2329 | Mabel Pauline Hutton Travillian, age 85, of Independence, KY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Hospice surrounded by her family. Pauline was born the daughter of the late Clarence and T. (Stewart) Hutton on February 22, 1935 in Corbin, KY. Pauline was a homemaker for most of her life, caring for her husband and children. In her later years she continued her caregiving by taking care of the elderly. Pauline loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of Charity Tabernacle. She also loved quilting, cooking, and reading the Bible and recipes, but most of all she loved to spend time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Samuel Travillian; daughter, Deborah K. Travillian-Ramsey; and siblings, Andrew Hutton, Maydrew Sargent, Marie Delk, Jim “Arthur” Hutton, and Ted Hutton. Pauline is survived by her children, Dianna (Ron) Sharon and George “Thomas” (Michelle) Travillian; grandchildren, Chris Sharon, Josh (Lynn) Sharon, Kayla (Bradley) Ellis, and Nichole Travillian; great grandchildren, Lilly, Gabe, Keegan, and Paislee; son-in-law, Calvin Ramsey; brother, Roy Hutton; many members of her extended family and her church family. | 2334 | Man Is Slain Near Big Hill Earl Marcum Is Victim Of Bullet; Surrender In Case Is Awaited Berea, Ky., June 5 – Earl Marcum, 28, highway construction worker, was shot and killed today while he was at a home in the Jackson Hollow section two and one-half miles west of Big Hill. A short time after the shooting, Madison County Sheriff John McWilliams at Richmond received a phone call from a man who said he was Willie Webb of the Big Hill section. The caller told the sheriff that he had killed a man and that he would be in Richmond in a “couple of hours” to surrender. Webb had been employed as night watchman on the highway project now under way near Big Hill. His home is in the Red Lick section. Marcum, who was a son of James Will Marcum, Big Hill, is survived by his wife, one child and his parents. His body was brought to Berea. The cause of the fatal shooting had not been learned by Berea or Madison county officers early this afternoon. | 2335 | Man Struck By Propeller, Killed After Hamilton Airport Landing Fred B. Kelley, 64, 1993 Dixie Hwy., retired Champion Papers employe, was injured fatally about 6:10 p.m. Friday when he walked or fell into the propeller of an airplane from which he had just alighted at Hamilton Airport. The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Mercy Hospital where he was taken by the fire department emergency squad. Dr. Garret J. Boone, Butler County coroner, said Kelley suffered severe head and neck injuries. Don Schirmer, 580 Hermany Ave., pilot of the airplane, told police and state highway patrolmen he and Kelley had just returned to the airport from a flight to Cleveland. He said a power failure in the airplane left them without light or radio power and that Kelley held a flashlight so he could see the instruments in the aircraft to make a landing upon arrival at the airport on Bobmeyer Road. Schirmer said when the aircraft came to a stop in front of the main hanger of the airport, Kelley told him he would check with airport officials to learn where they wanted the airplane parked so the electrical problem could be corrected. He said it was dark and he did not see whether the victim walked too close to the propeller or slipped and fell. Schirmer said Kelley had been working for him and had accompanied him on other flights. Mr. Kelley was born in Livingston, Ky., a son of John and Winnie Ponder Kelley, received his education in public schools in the area. A resident of Hamilton 30 years, he was employed at U.S. Plywood Champion Papers Inc. for 20 years, retiring in 1962. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairfield and a veteran of World Wart II, serving from April 1, 1943 until Sept. 25, 1945 as a corporal in the U.S. Army quartermaster corps. He received the EAME Theater ribbon with six bronze starts. | 2336 | Man who apparently set self on fire dies A 59-year-old Lexington man died yesterday, two days after apparently setting himself on fire, according to Fayette County coroner’s office. Benny Lee Madden of Carlisle Avenue was pronounced dead at 7:20 a.m. at University of Kentucky Hospital. The incident occurred about 9:10 a.m. Monday.
