3307 | LKH note: Looking for more documentation to confirm. Find a Grave gives her maiden name as Pruitt Of Clara and Richard Mullins' five daughters, 4 of their records in Kentucky Birth Index give Clara's maiden name as Pruitt, but one, Bernice Cordia Mullins, gives mother's maiden name as Spivey. I have not yet found any marriage for Clara prior to her being wife of Richard Mullins in 1930, so that is not where the surname Pruitt comes from. I have, however, found that Clara's mother Marvella Barnes married David Spivey in 1905. Clara was born in 1901. It appears that Clara became a part of Marvella and David Spivey's family and took the surname of Spivey throughout her life. I have not found any information about her biological father other than the surname of Pruitt. Another possible clue. In the 1900 census Marvella (age 22), seamstress, is living in Livingston in the household of David & Mary Wolf. Mary and Marvella were sisters. Next door is the family of James & Mary Prewitt, whose household includes two sons, John (age 20) and Joseph (age 8), and two daughters, Clara (age 12) and Ellen (age 9). This may be one of the reasons I have not yet found any record with exact birth information for Clara. | Spivey, Clara Angeline (I440)

3323 | lkh note: pension application On the 8th of September 1834, Ephraim Osborn filed for a pension in Parry, Co., Ky. He stated that he was 80 years of age. He entered the service of the United States as a volunteer under Capt. Enoch Osborn and Lieut. James Ward and first met at Osborn's Fort in Montgomery Co., but does not recollect the year. He then stayed in the service six months. They were engaged in guarding the frontier against the Indians. The time of service was perhaps a year or two before the expedition against the Cherokees. He afterwards went as a volunteer under Capt. Frederick Edwards, for one month on Clirch river, after the Tories and caught a deserter. He then went as a volunteer under Capt. Abram Bletcher to the Cherokee Nation. First met at Long Island of Holston and went by the bend of Nolichuncky and expected an attack, but did not have one. There were a good many troops from North Carolina and Virginia who went on from the Island. He recollects an officer from the North Caroline troops by the name of Williams. His own colonel was Christy. Before they got to the French Broad river, a flag was sent in by the Indians for peace, but it was understood that there were others who would not make peace. The Army proceeded on to the French Broad river and halted, expecting an attack. A detachment was ordered out to cross the river in the night and he was one who went. There were no Indians, but there were signs the next day. They went on to the Dragging Canoe Town and all were gone but one old blind Indian. The Army destroyed all they could find. He went again with Capt. Brummitt as a guard of ammunition from the Lead Mines, across the Glower Gap, into North Carolina and delivered the ammunition to Capt. McGraw. They stayed several days at the Lead Mines, waiting for the lead. He was several times in scouting parties after the Tories. He is old and infirm and states what he remembers, and might stated much more; that is what he thinks, but wants to state nothing but what he remember. He has made application in Perry Co. because he has acquaintances there. Jeremiah Smith, 74 years of age, resident of Harlan Co., certified that he was well acquainted with Ephraim Osborn, of Harlan Co., who has signed the declaration. He was know him since the time of the Revolution; and known, to his own knowledge, that he served under Capt. Enoch Osborn, at Osborn's Fort, and that he was a frequent scout from the fort. He also certified that his brother Joshua Pennington, was on the expedition against the Cherokees, and understood that Ephraim Osborn was with him. Certificate signed by Edmund Jones, Micijah Napier, and Daniel Duff, a clergyman. $7822. from: Early Osbornes and Alleys with notes on allied families, page 46-47. | Osborne, Ephraim (I1670)

3340 | LKH note: The info in the note above for Jeremiah and Sarah Wilson, with the children listed for them on Find a Grave, match census records in 1880 in Cow Creek, Owsley County, Kentucky and in 1900, 1910 and 1920 in Devils Ford, Elliot County, Kentucky That Jeremiah in the 1850 census is 7 and in 1860 census is 17 years old, both times in the household of parents Richard and Jemina Reynolds in Owsley County. That record shows Richard and Jemina born in Kentucky. All later census records for Richard show is parent born in North Carolina. |
3343 | LKH note: There are two potential locations for the burial of Elias Moore. There is a headstone for Elias Moore, born 5 Oct 1813 in the Virginia Point Cemetery in Savoy, Texas. And there is a memorial the reads "Elias and Salley Moore donated Original Cemetery" in the Tyner West Cemetery in Jackson County, Kentucky. Evidence that points to the Tyner West Cemetery as the correct burial site: 1. Elias and Salley are both in the 1880 census in Jackson County, Kentucky. 2. The 1880 census in Jackson County, Kentucky was taken on 8 June 1880. And the headstone in Texas reads that Elias died on 28 Feb 1880. 3. None of their children moved to Texas, so there is no logical reason for Elias to have visited and died there. 4. There is an Elias Moore in Grayson County, Texas in the 1877 tax roles there. And an Elias Moore, carpenter, in the 1876 city directory for Sherman, Grayson County, Texas. This Elias is the more likely person to have died in Grayson County, Texas. 5. The marker for Elias and Sally doesn't specify that that it is their headstone. It implies that that they donated the land for the cemetery. I think that makes it very likely that they are both buried there. 6. It is likely that the precise death date for Elias Moore in Kentucky is based only on the Find a Grave entry and therefore not the exact date of his death in Kentucky. | Moore, Elias (I2338)
