3651 Mrs. Maxie Ella Rice, age 94 of Brushy Branch Road in Manchester, passed away Sunday, January 11th, 2009 at the Laurel Creek Health Care Center. She was born April 16th, 1914 in Clay County, Kentucky to the union of Robert & Amanda Wilson Murray. She was a homemaker & a member of the Burning Springs Church of God.

She is survived by these children: Hazel Marie Combs & husband Rudolph of Manchester, J. B. Rice & wife Brenda of Manchester, & Dorothy Jean "Buck" Rice of Manchester. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren: Mike Combs & his wife Wanda, Jeff Combs & his wife Linda, Virgella Robinson & her husband Jason, & Anthony Combs. 7 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren & these brothers & sisters survive: Zola Fields of Fogertown, Vida Thompson of Burning Springs, Georgia Deaton of London, Bobbie Colwell of Indiana, & Bill Murray of Kingston, Kentucky.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Robert & Amanda Murray, her husband: Virgil Rice, & these brothers & sisters: Arthur Murray, Dallas Murray, Sam Murray, Hobert Murray, Elva Buttery, & her twin sister: Mary Rice.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Maxie Ella Rice will be Wednesday, January 14th, 2009 at 11 AM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Benny Fields & Rev. Jeff Combs will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery in the Burning Springs Community.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 13th, after 6 PM at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel.

Richmond – Mrs. Minnie J. Roberts, 63, died Saturday in a Columbus, Ohio, hospital after a short illness. She was a former resident of Richmond.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Edward Slagle, Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. Gene Corkins, Hillard, Ohio; Mrs. William Smith, Richmond, and Mrs. Terry O’Connors, Medford, Ore.; three sons, Bennie Madden, Columbus, Ohio; William Madden, Lexington, and John Madden, Dayton, Ohio; a number of sisters and brothers and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home by the Rev. Raymond Kays. Burial will be in the Richmond Cemetery. The body will arrive at the funeral home at noon today.

Mrs. Clara Angeline Mullins, 73, 940 Campbell Ave, died in Mercy Hospital Friday at 10:38 p.m.
Born in Rockcastle Co., Ky., she was a daughter of Frank and Marvella Barnes Pruitt.
She married Bennett Mullins May 26, 1921 in Livingston, Ky., and he preceded her in death Feb. 4, 1965.
She was a member of the North Fairfield Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Truman (Marie) Ponder, Mrs. Ruford (Mable) Gentry, Mrs. James (Helen) Swanner, Mrs. John (Bernice) Chandler and Mrs. Elmer (Pauline) Adams, all of Hamilton; two brothers, Tommy Spivey, Livingston, Ky., and Reilies Spivey, Dayton; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be in the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Ave., Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, and visitation will be Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Campton – Mrs. Nancy Jane Moore, 98, died Sunday morning at the home of a daughter, Miss Lucy Moore, with whom she lived, after a long illness. She was a native of Wolfe County and a member of the Interdenominational Church.
Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Velma Oliver, Madison Heights, Mich.; three brothers, Howard and Harland Childers, Harrison, Ohio, and Walter Childers, Campton; 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Campton Methodist Church by the Rev. Carl Faulkner. Burial will be in the White Cemetery. Bearers will be grandchildren. The body was taken to the residence from the Shackelford Funeral Home.

Porter (Special) - Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie Hawkins, 80, Las Animas, Colorado, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Methodist Church here with Reverend C. M. Moser, Officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery under direction of Green Funeral Home of Wagoner. Pallbearers will include Alva Boyd, Earl Boyd, Jack Cole, Walter Eubanks, Bland Madden and Albert Yochum.

Mrs. Hawkins, a long-time Porter resident died Sunday. Her husband, Charles Hawkins, died in 1947. A Gold Star Mother, Mrs. Hawkins moved to Colorado in 1954.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Myers, Las Animas; two sons, George McElroy, Reseda, California, and Carter McElroy, Fairfield, California; three step-sons; five step-daughters; two sisters, four brothers, including Meal Marcum of Westville, and eight grandchildren.

3659 Mrs. Norma McCollum Robinson, 94, of Hiawassee, Ga., died Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, following a period of declining health.
She was born Feb. 27, 1912, the daughter of the late John Sr. and Rosie Bates McCollum in Murray County, Ga. She was a charter member of the Towns County AARP. She was the director of library services at St. Johns River Community College in Palatka, retiring in 1970.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert P. Robinson in 1989, as well as sisters, Dorothy Colwell, Elizabeth and Ruth McCollum and a brother, John McCollum Jr.
She is survived by a daughter and son-n-law, Marilyn and Thomas Yorkovitch of Marble, N.C.; three grandsons; one brother, Lowell T. McCollum and a sister, Lois Haddix, both of Berea, Ky.; five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at Berea Cemetery Mausoleum in Berea, Ky.

Mrs. Polly Ann Parks, 59, widow of Felix Parks, died last night following a heart attack. She had been slightly ill the day before. With her six sons Mrs. Parks operated their ranch in the Wide Hollow district following the death of her husband.

3661 Mrs. Robinson, mother of Mrs. Hedges, dies
Mrs. Caroline Robinson, 88, died Wednesday, October 23, ’63 at an Oxford, Ohio nursing home. Her death was unexpected although she had been in poor health the past several years.
Caroline Moore Robinson was born May 7, 1875 in Owsley, Ky. She was married to John Robinson in 1893 and they were the parents of seven children. They were former residents of Indianola. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Eva Hedges of Sidell, Miss Ida Robinson of Guadalajara, Mexico; two sons, Herman of Hamilton, Ohio and Harley of Dayton, Ohio; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Mrs. Hedges left for Ohio Wednesday to attend the funeral services.

3662 Mrs. Ruby Riddle Ponder, age 87 of Tucson, AZ and formerly of Mt. Vernon and Lexington, KY, died Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at the Tucson Medical Center. She was the widow of Caleb Ponder and had taught elementary education in the Lexington schools and later kindergarten at Sayre School. She moved to Tucson after Caleb's death in 1989. She was a devout Christian, and an active member, at various times, of Gardenside Christian Church and the Southside and North Lexington Churches of Christ in Lexington. When her son, John pioneered Christian Faith Center in Tucson, she became a member and was an active participant in ministering to the homeless even until age 87. She is survived by her only son, John; and daughter-in-law, Eva; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Anna, and Joel; a brother, Dr. John James Riddle and sister-in-law Martha of Los Angeles, CA; and several nieces and nephews, Kathy Johnson of Grand Canyon, AZ, Julie Milligan of Pomona, CA, Lucille Lynn Philpot of Atlanta, GA, and Mary Alice Graves of Indianapolis, IN, Bill Ponder of Phoenix, AZ, Juddie Donaldson of Versailles, KY, Jennifer Wolken of Danville, KY, Roy Ponder of Anchorage, KY, and Casey Carroll of Knoxville, TN. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, February 14, 2003 at 11:00 AM in the Elmwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Friends may call at the Dowell & Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Campton – Mrs. Malta Marie Fugate, 28, wife of Samuel Fugate, Hamilton, Ohio, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at a hospital there after a long illness. She was a native of Perry County.
Other survivors are a daughter, Vicki Lynn Spencer, and a son, Sheldon Lewis Fugate, both at home; her mother, Mrs. Myrtle Moore, Ajax; five brothers, Ralph, Thomas, Lloyd and Douglas Moore all of Hamilton, Ohio, and Lee Moore, Loveland, Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Smith, Trenton, Ohio.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Campton Methodist Church by the Rev. Carl Faulkner. Burial will be in the White Cemetery. The body is at the home of her mother at Ajax in Perry County.

3665 Mrs. Sarah Alice Warren, 88, a patient in the Sunnybreeze Convalescent Home, 350 Hancock Ave., died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Mercy Hospital, where she had been a patient since Aug. 5. She had been a patient at the convalescent home for three years prior to entering the hospital.

Born in Buckhanlon County, Va., on June 22, 1875, the daughter of James and Melinda Jackson Epperson, she was educated in the public schools of that community.

The last living member of a family of nine children, four boys and five girls, she was married to William Henry Warren in Owsley County, Ky., in January of 1898, and the devoted couples moved to Hamilton in 1909. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1948. Mr. Warren preceded her in death in that year.

Home of Daughter

The family lived on N.F St., Hamilton, for many years, and following her husband's death, Mrs. Warren made her home with a daughter, Mrs. W.A. (Melba) Schneider, 500 Marcia Ave.

An active member of First Baptist Church, Mrs. Warren was an ardent worker in the congregation and was a member of the Philathea Class of that parish.

A devoted wife and loving mother, Mrs. Warren dedicated her life to the welfare and happiness of her family. She enjoyed traveling, and during their 50 years of marriage Mr. And Mrs. Warren spent many happy times visiting throughout the country.

She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Schneider and Mrs. Paul (Charlene) Stewart, Columbus; two sons, Everett M. Warren and Robert L. Warren, both of Columbus; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Elmer A. Proeschel Funeral Home, 547 Main St., with the Rev. George B. Scripture, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in Woodside cemetery.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. B.H. Hillard. Interment took place in the Berea Cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Spivey, age 85, of Crab Orchard, died Aug. 14 at the home of a son, Gabe Hoskins, following an illness of 14 months.
Mrs. Spivey, a widow, was a native of Clay County. She was a daughter of the late Mrs. William and Mrs. Margaret Saundlin Shelton. She was a member of the Church of God.
She is survived by five sons, Frank and Jim Hoskins, both of Illinois; Charles and Gabe Hoskins, both of Crab Orchard; Morris Hoskins, Franklin, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Laura Porter, Muskegon, Mich.; Mrs. Margaret Fratick, Georgetown, Ill.; Mrs. Lula Odell, Danville, Ill.; two step-sons, Henry Spivey, Crab Orchard; Arthurs Spivey, Danville, Ill.; four step-daughters, Mrs. Bessie Robinson and Mrs. Josephine Spath, both of Hamilton, Ohio; Mrs. Stella Newcomb and Eunice Hoskins, both of Crab Orchard; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Cress, Salem, Ind.; Mrs. Maudie Murray, Berea; two brothers, Larkin Shelton, Corbin; Hiram Shelton, Manchester; 65 grandchildren, 108 great grandchildren and 28 great great grandchildren.
Services were conducted Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. Carl Proffitt at the Howard Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in the Crab Orchard Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Howard Funeral Home.

Lewiston, Idaho - Mrs. Silas (Bertha L.) Regan, 83, died yesterday at the Orchards Nursing Home.

She operated a nursing home in Clarkston, Wash., for four years. She married John M. Smith in Arkansas in 1908 and they were divorced in 1935. She married William Sturgill at Silcott, Wash., in 1938 and he died in 1951.Her third husband, Silas J. Regan, survives in Gooding, Idaho.

Survivors also include two daughters, Opal Stewart, Monterey, Calif., and Mrs. Frank (Edith) Caragio, Lewiston; two sons, Jack Smith, Tacoma, and Johnie Smith, Fairbanks, Alaska; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, two brothers, George Mahaffey, Pasco, Wash., and Edwald Mahaffey, Clarkston and three sisters, Mrs. Laura Halliday, Odessa, Tex.; Mrs. Ida Watson, Portland, and Inez LaBorne, Lakewood, Calif.

Funeral services are pending at Malcom's Brower-Wann Chapel.

Mrs. Irene B. Cole, 60, wife of Solomon (Solly) W. Cole, 1823 Nicholasville Road, died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Hospital after an illness of five months.
She was a former Fayette County school teacher, and was one of the first teachers in the Head Start program. She had been on a leave of absence since April.
She was a native of Union County and was a daughter of the late Camden R. and Ella Arnold Brummette. She received her A.B. and did graduate work at the University of Kentucky, was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Mizpha Sunday School class.
She was a member of Phi Mu sorority, Fayette County Teachers’ Association, Kentucky Education Association and National Education Association.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a brother, W.J. Brummette, Denver, Colo.
The body was taken to the W.R. Milward Mortuary – Broadway, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the W.R. Milward Mortuary – Broadway, by the Rev. Franklin Owen. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. (CST) Tuesday at the Newman Funeral Home by the Rev. Charlie Evans. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home.

3672 Mrs. Susan Ponder Dies At Ottawa
Mrs. Susan Paulina Ponder, age 97, of Livingston died Nov. 27 at the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. Bernice Martin, Ottawa. She also made her home with a son, Ben Ponder, Livingston.
Mrs. Ponder, a native of Maulden, Jackson, County, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Brummett. She moved with her family to Livingston while a young girl. Her husband, who she married at the age of 20, Mr. F.M. Ponder Sr., died in 1939.
She was one of 27 persons to organize the Union Baptist Church and was the last living charter member.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Winnie Kelly, Hamilton, Ohio; three sons, W.H. Ponder, Livingston; Dan J. Ponder, Livingston, 28 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Murphy and H.L. Ponder officiating.
Burial was at the Family Cemetery, Red Hill, Rockcastle County.
Grandsons served as pallbearers and granddaughters were flower girls.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Howard Funeral Home.

She is survived by her children: Billy Wayne Thompson and wife Annie and David Lee Thompson and wife Daisy. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren: William Denver Allen Thompson and wife Tami and Vincent Thompson; 1 sister: Bobbie Colwell of Scottsburg, IN; a special friend: Aretta Smith.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Lloyd Thompson; her parents Robert and Amanda Murray; her children: Vanda and Wanda Thompson and these brothers and sisters: John Arthur Murray, Samuel Murray, Dallas Murray, Hobart Murray, William Murray, Elva Buttry, Maxie Rice, Mary Rice, Zola Fields, and Georgia Deaton.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 2:00 P. M. at the Rominger Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bennie Fields and Rev. Bobby Couch officiating. Burial will follow in the Thompson Cemetery in Burning Springs Community.

Mrs. Tankersley, the former Marjorie D. Goerndt, was born June 2, 1915, at Minnesota Lake, Minn.
She was married Sept. 14, 1964, at Little Falls, Minn. Mr. Tankersley died Dec. 15, 1977.
Mrs. Tankersley had worked at several jobs, retiring in 1977. She had lived at Salix for the last five years. Prior to that she lived at Mondamin for two years and had worked at Snyders Bend near Salix for three years. She had also lived in South Dakota.
She was a member of the Tyndall (S.D.) Lutheran Church and attended Salix Community Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Evelyne Hanson and Mrs. Madalyne Gigear, both of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Robert (Gladys) Seiner of Avon, S.D.

Mrs. Polly Wilson, 80 years old, wife of William Wilson, died Thursday morning at ten o'clock at her home near Allensville.
Besides her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Misses Mary, Margaret and Martha Wilson, all of Clark County, and Mrs. Lucy Irvin, Shelby County; three sons, Price, Walker and Phil Wilson, all of Shelby County; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Callahan, Jackson County, and several grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the home Saturday afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. P.B. Akin. Burial will follow in the Winchester cemetery.

Mt. Vernon, Ky., Aug. 20 – (AP) – Waiving preliminary trail, Joe Clark, 22, was free under $2,000 bond today in connection with the fatal shooting Saturday of John Spivey, 21, near Livingston.
Authorities said the shooting followed a drinking bout. They said they were told Clark shot Spivey after the latter threatened him.

3684 MURRAY, William Glen-- August 6, 1927 - February 26, 2002. William Glen Murray, 74, died in Dallas, Oregon on Tuesday, February 26 after an 18 year struggle with Parkinson's Syndrome. He was born in Burning Springs, Kentucky. He attended Sue Bennett College, Eastern Kentucky University and San Jose State University where he received a B.S. degree in business administration.
He was a Korea era war veteran, having served in the United States Air Force. He played an early role in the establishment of the Lockheed Missiles and Space Division in Sunnyvale, California. After a long administrative career, he retired from Lockheed in 1990.
He enjoyed hunting and real estate investment. He was a longstanding member of the Willow Glen Alliance Church in San Jose, California.
He was preceded in death by his son, Roger. He is survived by his loving wife Nellie of Dallas, Oregon; and two sons, Michael Glen and Bryan Keith. He has three grandchildren.
A burial service will be conducted at Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose on Friday, March 1st. The family requests no floral gifts, donations may be made to the Northwest Parkinson's Foundation, 1206 123rd Av., Bellevue WA, 98005. The family wishes to thank relatives, church family, physicians and caregivers for their kind and sensitive efforts.

Mrs. Evans was born in Lamoni and had lived in the Des Moines area most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by a son, Carl of Clive; two daughters, Juanita Hansen of Urbandale and Beverly Bartels of Sugar Creek, Mo.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, John.

Notes: Patrolman Aven and Sergeant John Ramsey were killed in an automobile accident while en route to Sweetwater, Texas, to follow up on a perjury investigation. During the drive another vehicle entered their travel lane while attempting to pass another car. Sergeant Ramsey took evasive action and swerved to the right. At the same time the oncoming car swerved to the left and the two vehicle collided head-on. Sergeant Ramsey was killed instantly and Patrolman Aven succumbed to his injuries the following day. A third police officer in the vehicle survived the accident.

Patrolman Aven had been with the agency for four years and was survived by his wife and daughter.

Mrs. Nancy Phipps died after a brief illness, Wednesday, April 4, at her home on Conwell St., this city. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 7. Interment at River View.
Nancy, daughter of William and Polly Anne Warner was born in Madison county, Ky., February 10, 1851. At the time of her death she was aged seventy-seven years, one month and eighteen days.
September 25, 1867 she was married to Harvey Hunter. Goad gave them six children, three daughters and three sons. Five of these children survive her, one daughter, Mrs. George Weaver, having died several years ago. Her husband, Harvey Hunter, was taken from her in the year 1881.
In November 1882, she was married to Thomas Phipps. Five children were born to this union, four sons and one daughter.
She united with the Christian Church when quite young and attended church services whenever possible.
During the year 1911 death again invaded her home, taking the husband and father. Since that time she has lived in Aurora where she has many friends.

In the death, on last Thursday morning, of "Uncle Nath" Fields, Henry county loses another of her sturdy pioneers.
Born in Grayson county, Virginia, February 24, 1812; and in 1834 came to Missouri, settling in Henry county, in the township bearing his name, and where he has ever since resided. He was some time ago afflicted with the infirmities of age, and realized that dissolution was rapidly nearing; and at the ripe old age of 86 life's candle has gone out.
His was indeed a long life, full of usefulness. His character was marked by firmness and strict integrity. He was the first deputy sheriff of Henry county, appointed by governor, has served as county assessor, and in minor capacities at various times.
He was married April 27, 1837, to Miss Mary E. Graham, a native of Smythe county, Virginia, and who survives him, though quite feeble. They reared several children, who with numerous relatives and a host of friends mourn the death of grand and noble "Uncle Nath."
He was buried in the Fields Creek cemetery on Friday, the 4th, and the funeral and interment were witnessed by a number from Clinton.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Luther Clayton Hill; parents, John and Martha Brown; son, Johnny Hill; and several siblings.

Survivors, in addition to Mrs. Ashcraft, include three sons, Bradley Robinson, Winchester; Frank and Ora Robinson, both of Dayton, Ohio; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Holiness church at Ford, conducted by the Rev. William Hale. Burial will follow in the Warner cemetery.
