Donna Sue Phillips, age 77, of Harrison, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 3 (2020) at her home.

She was born on Sept. 19, 1943, in Harrison, to the late Don and Arviezenia (Scarlett) Holliday.

Donna obtained her teaching degree from the Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway. She spent the early parts of her career as an educator in the Ozarks region teaching students ranging from first grade through college. After taking a break from teaching to be a stay at home mother to two sons, Donna became the first Children's Librarian at the Boone County Library in Harrison. She spent many years before her retirement cultivating a love of books, reading, and learning for many children and young adults in the area. She especially loved reading to kids at story hour and looked forward to every year's summer reading program.

In her spare time, Donna enjoyed gardening in her flower and herb beds, reading, genealogy, and listening to music (especially if her husband was singing). Most of all, Donna cherished spending time with her family and friends. She loved sharing memories of growing up in Harrison with her children and grandchildren: everything from helping her father at his dry cleaning business on Stephenson Avenue to reading under a magnolia tree while her pet squirrel played in the branches. Later in life, two of her favorite things to do were spending time with and telling people about her grandchildren and "grandpuppies."

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother-in-law, Darrell "Arkie" Phillips; and two sisters-in law, Josephine (Phillips) Wilson and Goldie Phillips.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James Austin Phillips Sr., of the home; one sister, Annadell Fowler and husband Fred, of Little Rock; two sons, James "Jay" Austin Phillips Jr. and wife Tanya Witt, of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Wade Phillips and wife, Jamie, of Harrison; two grandchildren, Connor Phillips and Parker Phillips; and numerous in-laws, and nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be at 11a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the Western Grove Cemetery in Western Grove, with the Rev. Dave Smith officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11a.m. at the gravesite.

Donna's family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the compassion and care she received from the Claude Parrish Cancer Center, Legacy Hospice of North Arkansas, and Better Home Care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boone County Children's Library, 221 West Stephenson Avenue, Harrison, AR 72601.

498 Harold Phillips Cooper. Memorial services for Harold Phillips Cooper will be held at 1 p.m. Wed., Dec. 29, at Chapel of the Chines, 7824 N. 59th Ave., with viewing held at 12:00 noon. Harold was an early Arizona Pioneer, who went to be with the Lord on Christmas Eve, 2004, in the presence of his entire family. His age was 97 years and 5 mo. Born on 8/2/07, in Riverside, CA his parents moved to Phx. when he was 6 months old. They lived on a 40 acre citrus farm and a large hay farm on the east side of 32nd St. south of Camelback. Harold recalled working with his dad in the fields in his youth; supplying hay for the U.S. Cavalry Army Depot. His mother took him and his broth to CA every summer when it was too hot for her in Phx. This was a hard trip for a woman and 2 little boys as they crossed the desert near Yuma on the old Plank highway, stopping to light the headlights with the darkness, and often requiring camping overnight near the CO River if they arrived after the ferry had closed for the night. He attended Creighton Elem. and graduated from Phx. Union High School in 1926. As a young couple, he and his wife joined many who lived in tents while working on Bartlett Dam, 1936-1939. He recalls those days as the saddest in his life, hard work and seeing fellow workers meet their deaths. His happiest days ere those spent with family when they enjoyed listening to his stories of hunting, fishing and exploring AZ. He enjoyed going salmon fishing in Il Waco, OR. His career was varied, a foreman for Foremost Dairy, then a foreman for the Pendley apple orchards in Sedona near Slide Rock. Their home in those days is now the tiny building that sits at the entrance of Slide Rock State Park. Later he partnered in Wasser Nursery where he was a master at grafting citrus trees. From this experience he began his own company, managing many large citrus groves in the east valley, until in 1961 symptoms sent him to seek medical help. It was then he was diagnosed with Emphysema and told to sell the heavy Caterpillar equipment used in the groves, because he only had 2 years to live. This was 43 years ago. He is preceded in death by his 18 year old daughter, Elizabeth Ann, (1/60) and his wife, Bonnie (12/92). He is survived by one son, Harold Edward (carol) Cooper, two grandchildren, Kendra (Cooper) Gould (Albert), Dwight Cooper (Cindy), two great grandsons, Ashton Gould and Dalton Cooper. Always the perfect gentleman, Harold was deeply respected and beloved by all who knew him. His mind was sound, and he had an amazing ability to recall the past. His family enjoyed hearing him reminisce about his early days and he will be gravely missed by his family and many friends who cherished him and his memories of AZ.
