| 4502 | Suella Slone Hundley was born on May 12, 1919, in the Kirksville area of Madison County, Kentucky. The youngest child of the late Shade and Margaret Alice Morris Slone, she grew up in Jackson County and lived in Madison and Rockcastle counties in Kentucky. On July 11, 1934, she married Herman Hundley, and they are the parents of Claudia Wren (Boyd), Chrystal Powell (William), and Daphne Baird (Jerry). For most of their married life they lived in Berea, Kentucky, after moving there from McKee, Kentucky, in 1940. Mr. & Mrs. Hundley owned and operated Hundley's Grocery in Berea for twenty-three years. She loved sewing for her family and home, crocheting, crafts, cooking, and growing flowers. In 1987, the Hundleys moved to Rockcastle County. After Mr. Hundley's death in 2003, Mrs. Hundley lived with her daughters. Suella Hundley died on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Rockcastle County Hospital. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Brodhead Nursing Home. Mrs. Hundley was a member of the Berea Church of the Nazarene, and she was a Kentucky Colonel. As well as her husband, six siblings, five brothers and one sister and her parents preceded Mrs. Hundley in death. In addition to her daughters and sons-in-law, she is survived by seven grandchildren: Jerri Laine Wren Ramsey (Gary), Susan Wren Jordison (Lloyd), Melora Wren Jones, Billy Dale Powell (Jo), Penny Sue Powell Hensley (Charlie), Elizabeth Baird Hardy (Michael), and Leah Suzanne Baird. She also leaves six great-grandchildren: Corey Dale Powell, Kasey Powell, Erik Jordison, Austin Jordison, Nathaniel Hardy, and Isabella Hardy. Mrs. Hundley is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, and by many special friends and neighbors. She was a loving, caring, Christian spirit, and she was loved by all who knew her. Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday November 2, 2007 at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea with Rev. Wallace Thornton and Rev. Vaughn Rasor officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. | 4515 | Text from Ancestry: My husbands Aunt Helen (Kratzer) Davis who was born in 1913 and just celebrated her 100th birthday in June 2013, and lives in California. She worked on her family genealogy many years ago, she knew how much I was interested in our family tree and she so graciously gave me her handy work a few years ago and it has been so helpful in my search. There has been a few in Ancestry that get the parents for Edward George Robinson mixed up, and I hope this can clear some of the confusion. Aunt Helens grandfather Edward George Robinson "Ned" as he was called by the family was the son of Julius Robinson and Elizabeth McDaniel. Aunt Helen said they always called her Granny Beth. The McDaniels and Robinson's came from North Carolina, they wereScotch-Irish. Later they moved to Kentucky and made their home there. Granny Beth made her home most of the time with her son Edward and his family. She was a Herb doctor and nurse, she would always walk from house to house nursing the ones in need. She had been thrown from a horse, and left one leg badly injured, she would never ride a horse after that, and would walk every where. Sandra (Mostek) Kratzer 9/23/2013 * * * The story Helen (Kratzer) Davis wrote about her grandfather and entered her story in her little book on the Robinson family, I will share. Her nephew David Kratzer inherited her little book in 2012 that was given to him by his cousin James Davis. Jim is the son of Helen. I wish Helen had put a year down when she entered her stories in the little book. I do know she wrote most of her stories when she was living with her married daughter in California. Today, 2013, she lives in Antelope Valley Care Center, in Lancaster, California. On June 14, 2013 she will be 100 years old. Helen has Alzheimer's Disease and does not recognize her family. Her little book with the pretty rose floral cover hold precious small stories that we will always treasure. Edward was a Union Soldier in Kentucky. In the 7th Army Regiment, Co. B. Fought in the Civil War, from 1861-1864. Met his wife Mary Tennessee Phipps, while serving in the Army for 3 years. Grandfather Edward was injured in one of the battles. He died at the age of 46 in 1888, leaving a wife and 10 children. He died 4 months before his youngest child was born. Edward was buried in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The church had bought a large Tomb Stone for his grave, honoring a Civil War Veteran. The Robinson family attended the Macedonia Baptist Church. Mary Tennessee Phipps was married at the age of 14 to Edward George Robinson. They had 13 children. Their home was in Berea, Kentucky. Their first son was born in the year 1867. | 4517 | Text from Find a Grave About 1910 grandmother Mary Jane Robinson left her home in Burning Springs, Kentucky as an orphan, after her mother died. She walked away from her home and some where around Burning Springs, Kentucky, grandmother Mary worked for a short time for a farmer and his wife as a housekeeper. This couple took Mary into their home sometime after working for the farmer and his wife. Mary went to work as a waitress in a cafe in Manchester, Kentucky, where she met her husband Charles Wilson Kratzer, who was working as a printer with the newspaper in Manchester, Kentucky. They married on April 12, 1912 in Hamilton Co. Kentucky. After their marriage they moved to Springfield, Ohio where their children, Helen Julia (Kratzer) Davis, Margaret Josephine (Kratzer) Gravette and Charles Wilson Kratzer were born. They later moved to Dayton, Ohio where grandfather Charles worked as a printer and Linotype operator for the Dayton Daily Newspaper in Dayton, Ohio. Mary Jane Kratzer was the daughter of Edward George Robinson and Mary Tennessee (Phipps) Robinson, both born in Clay County, Kentucky. He was born May 10, 1828, and would have been 80 years of age at his next birthday. He served four years in the Confederate army as Captain in Co. D 5th Kentucky and was in the battle of Chickamauga and several other battles, but escaped without receiving a wound. He was elected to the legislature from this district and served in the session of 1877-78 with credit to himself and his constituents. He has been an invalid for many years and bore up under his afflictions with great courage and fortitude. He was one of our best citizens and his loss will be greatly felt by the people of his community. He was a member of the American Legion Post #374 and a lifetime member of the VFW Post #66. Surviving is his wife, Marceline L. Phelps Bennett, whom he married October 7, 1971. Also surviving are his children, Teresa Marie Reckner and her husband, Randy, of Salem and Donna C. Bennett of East Liverpool, Sandra Wooten and her husband, Bernard, of East Liverpool, James Adkins of Portsmith, Va., Robert Adkins of East Liverpool, and Gregory Adkins of Portsmith, Va. Brain troubles have been common in his family. His brother died of the same disease back home, and his father has had trouble. | 4522 | The following is taken from "JAMES MOORE FAMILY" by Adalene Moore Davis James Moore, Sr. was the first permanent settler in the county seat of Owsley County Ky. Sometime between 1790 and 1796 James brought his wife Elinor and their children to spend a winter at Station Camp in what was then Madison County, now Estill County. The following spring the family journeyed into the South Fork country to homestead. In a clearing on Shepherd Hill, they raised a log cabin. As was the custom, there was a spring nearby to supply water and a suitable location for a cemetery. Most of the early homes were simple cabins of one or two rooms, a single window and squared logs with dove-tailed joints and roofs for hand-split shingles. The Robert Long residence on Mulberrry Street in Booneville encompasses the original cabin. In addition to Shepherd Hill, the Moore boundary included all of Booneville, eastward across the South Fork River toward Lerose. The growing community was known first as Moore's Station, then Boone's Station. Then in 1843, when Owsley County was formed (mostly from Clay County) and a post office established it was named Booneville to honor the frontiersman, Daniel Boone. James Moore, Jr. was appointed postmaster. The youngest son of the founding family, Elias, gave a deed for the site of the courthouse stating that in the event the site was no longer used for a courthouse it was to revert back to the Moore heirs. There is doubt as to the first white child born in the city limits but it was probably a grandchild of James Moore, Sr. In the Shepherd graveyard just outside Booneville, slabs mark graves of six persons who were believed buried before James Moore, Sr. died in 1835. Two smaller graves in front may be those of children. The large section in the center contains four markers, two of which reputedly belong to sons of John Moore (oldest son of James, Sr.). It is said the William and John Moore were killed in the courthouse yard by their brother-in-law, John Reece over the settlement of an estate. Tombstones are there marking the graves of James Moore, Jr. and his wife. The property has changed hands only twice in intervening years, passing from James Moore to Major Hampton who in turn sold it to Si Shepherd. It has remained in the Shepherd family over 100 years. Very soon after the James Moore family came to Owsley County, which was Clay County then, the Cornelius Bowman, Sr. family came from Muddy Creek in Estill County. It was his boys who followed the Moore daughters to South Fork country. Descendants from the Bowmans and Moores would have to include the Davidsons, Coles, Wilsons, Reynolds, Estridges, Eversoles, Callahans, Evans, Penningtons, Gabbards, Frosts, Lynches, McIntoshes, Sebastians, Campbells, Youngs, Morrises, Roses, Reeces, Brandenburgs, Pruitts, Roberts, McKinneys, Spencers, Lawsons, Combs, Peters, Sparks and many more. Actually five Bowmans married five Moores of this family. The older Bowman stayed in Estill County while his sons came to South Fork country. The story is told that Cornelius' wife Susan died and was buried on Muddy Creek. The children worried about their father and took wagons to move him near them. When they told the old man of the purpose of their visit, he flatly replied, "I won't go unless I can take Susan." So Susan was dug up, and her coffin was loaded in a wagon. The moving party arrived back in the South Fork country too late in the day to rebury Susan. At the old man's insistence the coffin was placed on his bed that night, and once more he slept beside Susan. when someone asked why, he replied, "Because I always loved Susan." The elderly Bowmans, their son Cornelius, Jr. and his wife, Betty Moore Bowman are all buried near the residence of Willard Campbell in Booneville, Ky. The mouth of the branch where widow Betty Bowman lived many years after the death of her husband still bears her name in Owsley County. Four of the Bowmans, that married Moores, were children of Cornelius, Sr. Nicholas was a nephew of the others, a son of Elijah Bowman. Isabel and Nicholas bought 500 acres of land from Archibald Crawford on Lower Twin Creek on December26, 1836, then in Estill County but now in Lee and Breathitt Counties near Jackson, Ky. Nicholas was taxed on 1000 acres in 1860. He and Isabel are buried on the old farm about 2 miles up Lower Twin Creek. Killed in sawmill accident. Married Sophia King, daughter of Dr. David King of Newport R.I. about 1808. Born about 1793, Died in Wise Co. Va. 1824. Buried at foot of Black Mtn. Wm. met Sophia while on a horse trading trip and they eloped. She was disinherited by her family but they were later reconciled. They were on their way to Ohio in 1824 and had stopped in Wise Co. Va. to visit with William's brother Joh, when Sophia became ill and died of yellow fever. William went on to Ohio with his family and may have married again there but if so there were no other children. In 1838 he and William Jr. went to Arkansas where he was accidently killed.
