- Cleveland "Cleve" McKinney, 80, of Connersville, died Saturday, March 17, 2007 at his residence. Under a physicians care, he had been in failing health for the last 18 months.
He was born in Clay County, Kentucky on December 1, 1926, one of four children of Arthur and Delia Murray McKinney.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Korea during the Korean Conflict , having received the rank of Corporal prior to his honorary discharge.
Following his military service, he returned to Kentucky for residence and was married on December 21, 1953 in Jellico, Tennessee to Patsy Cornett of Clay County, Kentucky. They lived in Kentucky for a few years and moved to Indiana, where he was employed in construction in the Indianapolis area and had served as a foreman during the construction of the City-County Building in Indianapolis. A few years later, they moved back to Kentucky for a brief time and in 1963, he and his family moved to Connersville for residence, where he was employed with the former Philco-Ford and their successors, having retired in 1989.
An active member of the Calvary Baptist Church, he had served as a church bus driver for many years and had volunteered in the church nursery ministry.
During his leisure time he enjoyed vegetable gardening and bird watching and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons was a special highlight of his life.
Survivors include: a son, Jerry McKinney and wife Sarah of Connersville; two grandsons: Colin McKinney, a student at Butler University and Michael McKinney, a student at the University of Indianapolis; a brother: Marion McKinney and his wife, Ada of Mooresville, Indiana; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Patsy Cornett McKinney, who died October 26, 1990; his parents; a brother: Paul McKinney; and a sister: Dorothy White.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastor John Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Laurel North Cemetery, with military rites provided by the Fayette County Veterans Council Honor Guard. Friends may call at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home from 4-8 PM on Tuesday and from 9 AM until the time of services on Wednesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made in care of the funeral home to the Fayette Regional Health System Hospice or to the Fayette County Cancer Fund.
