Notes |
- Believed to have been born and raised in the Cincinnati area, Hamilton Co., Ohio, Garland married Minnie J (Lawson) Madden in about 1945 in Cincinnati. They returned to Minnie's home in Madison Co., KY within a couple weeks of wedding to continue raising Minnie's children. Ann, her father having died at the tender young age of 1, only knew Garland as "Dad." In fact, when referring to her childhood, if a person asks her about her father, she often forgets to mention John Madden and only refers to Garland Roberts. Minnie's children were the only children Garland knew as his own, as he was reportedly unable to have his own kids in a previous marriage.
