Notes - George R. Brown is dead at age 76
Osteopathic doctor Brown treated veterans for 45 years.
George R. Brown, 76, an area osteopathic physician for 45 years died at his home in Dayton on Saturday. He had been ill since suffering a massive stroke in August.
Dr. Brown maintained a private practice in Trotwood before joining Dayton's Veterans Administration Medical Center in 1969. His daughter, Rebecca Edwards of Dayton, said he was the first osteopathic family physician in the United States to be certified by a Veterans Administration medical center in the United States.
"He was all for the veterans," Edwards said of her father, who served in the Army during World War II. "He'd help everyone as best he could, and beyond."
Dr. Brown retired in 1991 but continued to work part-time for the VA Medical Center until last June.
Before his illness, Dr. Brown taught for several years as an associate clinical professor in Write State University's Family Practice Department.
Survivors include his wife, Isabelle; daughters Susan Zimmerman of Belmont; Catherine Drake of Columbus; Josephine Venable and Marie Brown of Dayton; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Dayton National Cemetery on Wednesday.
