Butch was well known for the exquisite wood clocks he made and for his love of music – composing and producing a number of pieces from his self-built electronic music system. He proudly served eight years in the Army, mostly overseas, where he reached the rank of E5. He also obtained a master's degree in electrical engineering and taught at Heald College in Portland for several years. Butch loved Cubs baseball, bowling and golf.
