      Julia Ann is the daughter of Abner Terry Shackelford and Nancy Ann (Gossett) Shackelford. She was born in Breathitt County, KY.

      She married Calvin Henderson Taylor in 1859 in Breathitt County. Calvin died of typhoid fever in 1863 shortly after enlisting in the Union Army.

      Julia raised her two children on her own and supported herself doing housework for others. Late in her life, about 1891, she married Capt. Archibald Cope who served in the Confederate Army.
