Calvin is very near to the beginning of Row 5. His is said to be the 4th unmarked fieldstone and was the son of William & Jane Bonham Hash, per NewRiverNotes.com.
Calvin Hash (age 21, born in Grayson County and a resident of Grayson County), married Sarah A. Blankenbeckles (age 25, born in Smyth County and a resident of Smyth County), on 17 Jun 1860 in Smyth County, Virginia. They were united in marriage by Jas W. Dickey. Sarah was the daughter of George and Sarah Blankenbeckler. Their daughter, Sarah V. A. Hash was born in Smyth County, VA on 24 May 1862.
On the 1860 Federal Census for Smyth County, VA, Calvin and his wife Sarah Anne are living with Sarah's parents, George and Sarah Blankenbeckler. My the 1870 Census for Marion, Smyth County, Sarah A. Hash and her 8 year old daughter Sarah V.A. Hash are living in the Thomas and Catharine Danold household, with no Calvin Hash to be found. On 16 May 1871 in Smyth County, Virginia, Sarah A. Hash, widowed, the daughter of Geo. and Sarah Blankenbeckler, would marry Seymore G. Atkins, also widowed.
Calvin is said to have been a Civil War Veteran who fought for the Southern Confederate Army and who died during the course of that war.
The Calvin Hash of this memorial is not to be confused with another Calvin Hash (b. 1888. d. 1941), also buried in Pine Branch Cemetery and whose father was Zachariah Hash & Lucinda Ward.
