    • Nathan A. Fields
In the death, on last Thursday morning, of "Uncle Nath" Fields, Henry county loses another of her sturdy pioneers.
Born in Grayson county, Virginia, February 24, 1812; and in 1834 came to Missouri, settling in Henry county, in the township bearing his name, and where he has ever since resided. He was some time ago afflicted with the infirmities of age, and realized that dissolution was rapidly nearing; and at the ripe old age of 86 life's candle has gone out.
His was indeed a long life, full of usefulness. His character was marked by firmness and strict integrity. He was the first deputy sheriff of Henry county, appointed by governor, has served as county assessor, and in minor capacities at various times.
He was married April 27, 1837, to Miss Mary E. Graham, a native of Smythe county, Virginia, and who survives him, though quite feeble. They reared several children, who with numerous relatives and a host of friends mourn the death of grand and noble "Uncle Nath."
He was buried in the Fields Creek cemetery on Friday, the 4th, and the funeral and interment were witnessed by a number from Clinton.
The Henry County Republican, Clinton, Missouri. Thursday, 10 November 1898.
