There is a hoax story that Sophia is a dau. of the wealthy Dr. David King of NY and RI. This is false.
About 1895 descendants of William and Sophia filed lawsuits in an attempt to obtain a share of the large estate of Dr. David King.
Sworn statements of neighbors in Ashe Cty. NC said that Edward King was Sophia King Sturgill was her father.
Dr. David King descendants provided statements that proved that Sophia was not related. Sophia's family lawsuit was thrown out in 1903-1904.
Sophia's first kid was born 1807.
Sophia raised her illeg. grandson Elihu Sturgill. Son of Mary Polly and David Greer. David later married Mary Polly.
Died on way to Kentucky.

All children of Francis and Rebecca except Nancy born in Grayson Co. Va.
4) William Sturgill, Born 1784. Died 1838 Arkansas Terr. Killed in sawmill accident. Married Sophia King, daughter of Dr. David King of Newport R.I. about 1808. Born about 1793, Died in Wise Co. Va. 1824. Buried at foot of Black Mtn. Wm. met Sophia while on a horse trading trip and they eloped. She was disinherited by her family but they were later reconciled. They were on their way to Ohio in 1824 and had stopped in Wise Co. Va. to visit with William's brother Joh, when Sophia became ill and died of yellow fever. William went on to Ohio with his family and may have married again there but if so there were no other children. In 1838 he and William Jr. went to Arkansas where he was accidently killed. William Jr. returned to Ohio.
