Jasper Reynolds Passes Away
Jasper Reynolds one of the older settlers passed away the latter part of last week and the funeral was held at the home southwest of Garden Grove on Saturday afternoon, conducted by Frank Garber and interment was in the Trullinger cemetery. Mr. Reynolds has been ill for some time and death came as a relief. He has lived a long life of usefulness in our midst and was universally liked by all who knew him.--Garden Grove Express.
"The Leon Journal-Reporter", Iowa, Thursday, June 21, 19177, page 4:
Jasper Reynolds was born in Hamilton county, Indiana about 1844 and died at his home in High Point township, Decatur county, Iowa, Friday June 1st, 1917. Mr. Reynolds was married to Miss Ann Phipps and to this union were born 10 children, nine of whom are living, five boys and four girls, and they together with the wife are left to mourn his death.
Jasper Reynolds lived the life of an upright citizen and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He was one of a family of seven children and came to Iowa with his parents in the 40's and settled in the eastern part of the state, and in 1852 they came to Decatur county and settled, upon the land on which he lived at the time of his death, the father of the Reynolds boys entering it from the government, and it has never passed out of their hands, and we doubt if there are many similar instances in this section of the state. When the Reynolds family came to Garden Grove there were no frame houses, nothing but the cabins of the Mormons, and at that time they had commenced to leave for Salt Lake, Utah.
Funeral services were held at the home Saturday, June 2nd, conducted by Frank A. Garber, interment being in the Trullinger cemetery
