- Death has for the first time entered this bright and happy home and snatched from our midst a kind husband and loving father.
Thomas Phipps, only son of Isaiah and Rachel Phipps, was born in Estel Co., Ky., Oct. 6, 1835, and departed this life Nov. 15, 1911, at his home near Aurora, Ind., aged 76 years, 1 month and 9 days. He was twice married. The first union was blessed with eight children, six girls and two boys; of these children, one day and two girls have preceded him to the better land.
He was again married to Mrs. Nannie Hunter in 1881. To them were born five children, four boys and one girl, all of whom were with him at the time of his death.
Although not a church member, yet his faith was firm in Christ and often during his sickness he seemed to delight in talking of his home beyond the skies. He was a good citizen and neighbor and was well liked by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed in the home and community, but he has gone where sufferings and sorrow never come.
He leaves to mourn a loving wife, ten children, five boys and five girls, several stepchildren and grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
The Journal-Press, Aurora, Indiana. Friday, 24 November 1911.
