He lived until that evening when he quietly passed away. Mr. Phillips was born in Indiana over 69 years ago. His children all live in this County and he had many relatives. His wife and four children survive him. The children are: Amanda fisher, 508 Grover street; Mrs. Sarah Spence, 412 Pond Street; Joseph Phillips, Lucas Street and John Phillips, 610 Wallace street. He is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, who are: Mrs. Dell Smith, of Moscow; Mrs. Annie Putney, Muscatine Island; James and Addison Phillips, both of this city. There are also 19 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The funeral was held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, short services being held at the house and later services at Greenwood chapel, with Rev. E.C. Brooks in charge. ==============
Samuel was first married to Mary Lawrence (in 1859) and they had 4 children. Armilda was his second wife and he was still married to her when he died (1905). I seem to recall (and don't know why I don't have it in my data file) that they married just a couple years before he died, maybe 1902 or 1903.

Ironically, Samuel is buried in Greenwood in a plot owned by Armilda but Armilda is buried in Mt. Pleasant. Samuel's son, Joseph (d. 1952), is buried in Armilda's lot with Samuel.
