- LKH note:
There are two potential locations for the burial of Elias Moore.
There is a headstone for Elias Moore, born 5 Oct 1813 in the Virginia Point Cemetery in Savoy, Texas.
And there is a memorial the reads "Elias and Salley Moore donated Original Cemetery" in the Tyner West Cemetery in Jackson County, Kentucky.
Evidence that points to the Tyner West Cemetery as the correct burial site:
1. Elias and Salley are both in the 1880 census in Jackson County, Kentucky.
2. The 1880 census in Jackson County, Kentucky was taken on 8 June 1880. And the headstone in Texas reads that Elias died on 28 Feb 1880.
3. None of their children moved to Texas, so there is no logical reason for Elias to have visited and died there.
4. There is an Elias Moore in Grayson County, Texas in the 1877 tax roles there. And an Elias Moore, carpenter, in the 1876 city directory for Sherman, Grayson County, Texas. This Elias is the more likely person to have died in Grayson County, Texas.
5. The marker for Elias and Sally doesn't specify that that it is their headstone. It implies that that they donated the land for the cemetery. I think that makes it very likely that they are both buried there.
6. It is likely that the precise death date for Elias Moore in Kentucky is based only on the Find a Grave entry and therefore not the exact date of his death in Kentucky.
