- Gentry, Ruford
Age 89 of Hamilton passed away at Atrium Medical Center on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 10:00 AM. He was born in Jackson County, Kentucky on February 25, 1920 the son of Roy and Ella Jane (Lakes) Gentry. Ruford was a World War II U.S. Army veteran from 1941 to 1945, where he served in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia, Rome and Arno. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Bade with three Bronze Stars. Ruford was employed in the paper coating department at Champion International Paper. On September 22, 1948 in Hamilton he married Mabel Mullins. He is survived by his wife, Mabel Gentry of Hamilton; a son, Thomas (Deborah) Gentry of Oxford; a daughter, Marvella (Jeffrey) Black of Liberty Township; two grandchildren, Rachel Gentry and Ethan Black; a brother, Edward (Betty) Gentry of Fairfield; three sisters, Millie Warren, Elrena Hubbard, and Barbara Chestnut, all of Hamilton; and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Herman Gentry. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
