    From Guilford, came the ancestors of the present Phipps families that descended from the two brothers Benjamin Phipps of whom I have already written and Isaiah Phipps here in Grayson County, Va., and Ashe and Alleghany Counties, N.C.

    Isaiah Phipps [1769-1847] came here, as a young man; stayed with his brother Ben Phipps until he took up land and married a Miss How. His home was established west of the Fields place. He was a great hunter of wild game. The writer was told he killed early one morning two turkey gobblers and a big buck before breakfast. Game of all kin was plentiful here in his day and for a long time afterwards. He reared a large family of boys and girls. All of his sons and daughters moved away from the old homestead but two sons, Benjamin [1811-1901] and David Phipps [1817-1907].

    Benjamin Phipps [1811-1901] married Ainey Long [Anna Elina Long - "Eleanor" (1811-1901)]and was given the lower part of his father's homestead. He built his home in the woods; he cleared the land and became one of the best farmers of that day. Because of the numerous Bens in the Phipps family he was called "Preacher" Ben Phipps. Well did he carry out all of his life the title given him; he never preached in words, but lived the life which if many so-called preachers had emulated would have given them more influence for good, if they had walked and lived as did "Preacher" Ben. He had eight children; four girls and three sons lived to be grown.

They settled first in Grayson County, Virginia, where Isaiah Phipps, the grandfather of our subject, was born; he was married there and reared a large family. His son, John, the father of William J., was born in Grayson County, Virginia, in 1815, and was reared to the occupation of a farmer. At the age of twenty years he emigrated to Vermillion County, Illinois, where he was one of the early settlers. He married Eliza J. Hall, a daughter of William and Annie (Copeland) Hall, and to them were born three children: Mary A., Sylvester and William J. They resided in Vermilion County until 1839, and then went to Bates County, Missouri, where the wife died. In 1847 Mr. Phipps removed to Lee County, Iowa, and was one of the pioneers of that county. In 1850, during the gold fever in California, he emigrated to that State and engaged in mining, meeting with marked success. While there he turned his attention to farming; he was again married to Ellen Wayman, and they had four children: Emma, Ann E., Mary E. and John N. Mr. Phipps is now living in San Luis Obispo County, California. He is a worthy member of the Christian Church, and an honored citizen.

    William J. Phipps, his son and the subject of this sketch, was born in Vermillion County, Illinois, in 1837, receiving the limited education that was afforded in that early day. His father being a pioneer of three States: he was reared on the frontier and subjected to the privations and vicissitudes of that life. In 1857 he was married to Lydia A. Copeland in Decatur County, Iowa. She is a daughter of Jefferson and Louisa (Johnson) Copeland. Seven children were born of this marriage: Mary A., deceased at two years; Miles J., deceased at the age of seven years; Julia E., deceased at five months; Emma J, , Leonore and Theodore, twins, deceased in infancy, and John W., deceased at one year of age.

    Mr. Phipps engaged in agricultural pursuits in Decatur County, where he lived until 1861; he then removed to Pottawattamie County, and at the end of two years went to the Rocky Mountains, remaining there three years. In 1868 he came to Page County and bought land in Fremont Township on which he settled; he still owns this farm, but it is now occupied by his daughter and son-in-law, Howard Soper, who married Emma J. They are the parents of two children, William Howard and Morris Willard.

    Mr. Phipps is a man of correct principles and habits, and has endeavored always to live an upright life. He is prominently identified with all the interests of the great West, having witnessed its growth and development from the trackless prairie to its present advanced state of cultivation. He and his wife are both true Christians, and have borne the sorrow which they have met in the loss of their children with characteristic patience and resignation. Politically he affiliates with the Democratic party. It has been through his own unaided efforts that he has made his money, and he deservedly ranks with the honored list of self made men of the West.

    Jefferson Copeland, the father of Mrs. Phipps, is a grandson of Charles Copeland, who came from Scotland to Halifax, Nova Scotia, long before the war of the Revolution. Charles Copeland married Miss Abigail Hass, and they had one son, Charles. The father returned to Scotland to recover some property belonging to his family estate, and while there broke his leg and was detailed a long time. The means of communication were very meager, and as his wife did not hear from him for such a long time, she moved with her father’s family to Virginia, where she married again. After a long time her husband abandoned all hopes of gaining his part of the estate and returned to Nova Scotia, where he again broke his leg; his wife hearing of his return traveled all the distance from Virginia to see him, but he passed away before she reached his side. Her son, Charles, the father of Jefferson, was a native of Nova Scotia, and a soldier in the war of the Revolution. He married Hannah Osborn, and they had thirteen children, of whom Jefferson is the youngest and the only surviving one. The father was a member of the Baptist Church. Jefferson Copeland was born in Bledsoe County, Tennessee, in 1810, and was seven years of age when his parents removed to Indiana; there he learned to read and write, and at the age of eighteen years he learned the trade of blacksmith. In 1834 he married Louisa Johnson, daughter of Patrick and Annie Morton Johnson, both of Scotch descent. They became the parents of five children; Charlotte, Charles, Lydia A., Martha, and Julietta. Since 1868 Mr. Copeland has been a resident of Page County; he is now eighty years of age. He is a diligent student of the Bible and preaches the Gospel as it is revealed to him by the reading of the Word. He has suffered many hardships in his career, but has been of incalculable benefit to his country in clearing a path through the wilderness for the advance of civilization. There is no more honorable record in the life of any American citizen.

    William J. Phipps is descended from an old American family of English origin. They settled first in Grayson County, Virginia, where Isaiah Phipps, the grandfather of our subject, was born; he was married there and reared a large family. His son, John, the father of William J., was born in Grayson County, Virginia, in 1815, and was reared to the occupation of a farmer. At the age of twenty years he emigrated to Vermillion County, Illinois, where he was one of the early settlers. He married Eliza J. Hall, a daughter of William and Annie (Copeland) Hall, and to them were born three children: Mary A., Sylvester and William J. They resided in Vermilion County until 1839, and then went to Bates County, Missouri, where the wife died. In 1847 Mr. Phipps removed to Lee County, Iowa, and was one of the pioneers of that county. In 1850, during the gold fever in California, he emigrated to that State and engaged in mining, meeting with marked success. While there he turned his attention to farming; he was again married to Ellen Wayman, and they had four children: Emma, Ann E., Mary E. and John N. Mr. Phipps is now living in San Luis Obispo County, California. He is a worthy member of the Christian Church, and an honored citizen.

    William J. Phipps, his son and the subject of this sketch, was born in Vermillion County, Illinois, in 1837, receiving the limited education that was afforded in that early day. His father being a pioneer of three States: he was reared on the frontier and subjected to the privations and vicissitudes of that life. In 1857 he was married to Lydia A. Copeland in Decatur County, Iowa. She is a daughter of Jefferson and Louisa (Johnson) Copeland. Seven children were born of this marriage: Mary A., deceased at two years; Miles J., deceased at the age of seven years; Julia E., deceased at five months; Emma J, , Leonore and Theodore, twins, deceased in infancy, and John W., deceased at one year of age.

    Mr. Phipps engaged in agricultural pursuits in Decatur County, where he lived until 1861; he then removed to Pottawattamie County, and at the end of two years went to the Rocky Mountains, remaining there three years. In 1868 he came to Page County and bought land in Fremont Township on which he settled; he still owns this farm, but it is now occupied by his daughter and son-in-law, Howard Soper, who married Emma J. They are the parents of two children, William Howard and Morris Willard.

    Mr. Phipps is a man of correct principles and habits, and has endeavored always to live an upright life. He is prominently identified with all the interests of the great West, having witnessed its growth and development from the trackless prairie to its present advanced state of cultivation. He and his wife are both true Christians, and have borne the sorrow which they have met in the loss of their children with characteristic patience and resignation. Politically he affiliates with the Democratic party. It has been through his own unaided efforts that he has made his money, and he deservedly ranks with the honored list of self made men of the West.

    Jefferson Copeland, the father of Mrs. Phipps, is a grandson of Charles Copeland, who came from Scotland to Halifax, Nova Scotia, long before the war of the Revolution. Charles Copeland married Miss Abigail Hass, and they had one son, Charles. The father returned to Scotland to recover some property belonging to his family estate, and while there broke his leg and was detailed a long time. The means of communication were very meager, and as his wife did not hear from him for such a long time, she moved with her father’s family to Virginia, where she married again. After a long time her husband abandoned all hopes of gaining his part of the estate and returned to Nova Scotia, where he again broke his leg; his wife hearing of his return traveled all the distance from Virginia to see him, but he passed away before she reached his side. Her son, Charles, the father of Jefferson, was a native of Nova Scotia, and a soldier in the war of the Revolution. He married Hannah Osborn, and they had thirteen children, of whom Jefferson is the youngest and the only surviving one. The father was a member of the Baptist Church. Jefferson Copeland was born in Bledsoe County, Tennessee, in 1810, and was seven years of age when his parents removed to Indiana; there he learned to read and write, and at the age of eighteen years he learned the trade of blacksmith. In 1834 he married Louisa Johnson, daughter of Patrick and Annie Morton Johnson, both of Scotch descent.

    They became the parents of five children; Charlotte, Charles, Lydia A., Martha, and Julietta. Since 1868 Mr. Copeland has been a resident of Page County; he is now eighty years of age. He is a diligent student of the Bible and preaches the Gospel as it is revealed to him by the reading of the Word. He has suffered many hardships in his career, but has been of incalculable benefit to his country in clearing a path through the wilderness for the advance of civilization. There is no more honorable record in the life of any American citizen.

    Mrs. Susan Ponder Dies At Ottawa
    Mrs. Susan Paulina Ponder, age 97, of Livingston died Nov. 27 at the home of a granddaughter, Mrs. Bernice Martin, Ottawa. She also made her home with a son, Ben Ponder, Livingston.
    Mrs. Ponder, a native of Maulden, Jackson, County, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Brummett. She moved with her family to Livingston while a young girl. Her husband, who she married at the age of 20, Mr. F.M. Ponder Sr., died in 1939.
    She was one of 27 persons to organize the Union Baptist Church and was the last living charter member.
    She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Winnie Kelly, Hamilton, Ohio; three sons, W.H. Ponder, Livingston; Dan J. Ponder, Livingston, 28 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held Sunday at the Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Murphy and H.L. Ponder officiating.
    Burial was at the Family Cemetery, Red Hill, Rockcastle County.
    Grandsons served as pallbearers and granddaughters were flower girls.
    Funeral arrangements were handled by Howard Funeral Home.

    Berea, Ky. June 26 (LNS) – Services for Mrs. Sarah Elisabeth Hundley, 78, wife of John A. Hundley of Morrill, who died Wednesday at the Berea College hospital, will be conducted at the Silver Creek Baptist church at 10 a.m. Friday by the Rev. George Kirby. Burial will be in the Berea cemetery.
    Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. George Roberts, Mrs. W.M. Parrot and Mrs. Elijah Cole; four sons, John, Herman, Arnold and Lloyd Hundley; 34 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
    The body is at the Britton funeral home here.

    Mr. McDaniel leaves the widow, Frances McDaniel; five sons, Edgar, Clarence, William R, Vernon, & Earl McDaniel, all of Hamilton; one daughter, Mrs Gladys Mogle, Cincinnati; two sisters, Mrs S E Kelley, Hamilton, & Mrs Mary Ponder, Livingston, Ky; nine grandchildren; & two great grandchildren. A son, Chester, died in 1946.
    Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 o’clock, in the residence, 2012 Parkamo Ave, Rev Shelton Brock, Pastor of the Church of God, Hamilton, & Rev Ira Wells, officiating. Burial will be in Darrtown Cemetery. Friends may call at the residence Sunday afternoon & evening.

    John and Caroline Robinson moved to Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio in 1917 at which time John took over operating the Miami Hotel at Park Avenue and North B Street. 101 North B Street.

    In the 1920 census, John, Caroline and their 3 sons lived in the hotel. The other 47 residents of the hotel were: two women who were hotel waitresses, and 45 men who were all laborers, most in a paper mill, several in tool works, and a few in a foundry.

    Argument ends in gun play
    Jack Robinson, proprietor of Miami Hotel, hit in hip, and Mat Young, tenant, has wound in abdomen - latter in serious condition - Hiram Farmer admits doing shooting and Claims self-defense.

    As a result of an argument in the rear room of the Miami Hotel, Park and B street, early this afternoon, Mat Young, tenant of that place, and Jack Robinson, proprietor of the Hotel are in care of physicians suffering from shot wounds, and Hiram Farmer, 813 Second Street, this city, is in custody of the police charged with shooting with intent to kill.

    Those who were in the hotel at the time of the shooting stated that the three men were in a rear room of the place but a short while when shots were heard.

    Immediate call for police brought Officer Addison to the place and Farmer was place under arrest.

    Robinson and Young were taken to the Mercy Hospital in the patrol ambulance; the former shot in the hip, a severe fracture being sustained, and Young shot in the abdomen.

    Investigation by police at the hotel indicated, police say, that at least three shots were fired, as one bullet was lodged in a partition of the wall. The shooting was, according to police, done with a 48-calibre revolver.

    After being taken to police headquarters, Farmer gave his name as H. F. Farmer, residence 813 Second street, and stated that he formerly was watchman.

    Officer Neidermann of the local force stated that Farmer was reluctant to talk. Neidermann stated Farmer said that he (Farmer) was in a rear room of the hotel and that Robinson and Young attacked him. Farmer claimed that one of the men fired a shot at him.

    Mercy hospital official stated that Young's condition is probably serious. Dr. Mark Millikin has charge of the patient. No information was given regarding the condition of Robinson.

    Tenants of the Miami Hotel failed to give any information regarding the shooting. Robinson has been proprietor of the hotel for some time and Young has been living there for three weeks.

    Detectives of the local department are working on the case.

    Later Farmer broke the silence which possessed him shortly after time of arrest and gave out the following statement regarding the affair in the police.

    He admits that he shot Young in self-defense but states he does not remember shooting Robinson. He claimed he merely stopped in the hotel as he was passing and claims that Young and Robinson started after him. He claims that Young drew a gun. Farmer showed a mark to the police on his coat where he claimed Young shot him.

    Farmer also had a cut on his face. He stated that Robinson hit him.

    To Police Chief Stricker Farmer stated that he did not attempt to evade arrest but that he presented himself to Officer Addison.

    Shooting was over $11 sale. Victims of gun fight are not out of danger. Self-defense is Farmer's claim.
    Police say two shots were fired and both by man under arrest.

    The condition of Matt Young and John Robinson, the two men shot by H. F. Harmer at the Miami Hotel Monday afternoon, was reported as fair at Mercy Hospital today, but neither an d especially Young have passed the danger line.

    The weapon used by Farmer was a 45 calibre Colt's revovlvor carrying a heavy ball. The bullet that struck Young entered to the right of the navel, ranged backward and it is thot passed thru the stomach, came out at the right hip and imbedded itself in a nearby wall where it was dug out and recovered by the police.

    Robinson was shot in the left hip and the bullet was not located early today.

    Argument over sale.
    The police say, as a result of their investigation, that the trouble occurred over a sale transaction between Farmer and Robinson involving H. Farmer and his son-in-law James Jones, went to the hotel in a taxicab and Farmer at once started an argument with Robinson when they me t in the wash room in the rear. Young tried to act as peacemaker and to restrain Farmer from violence. But Farmer drew his pistol, shot Young and then Shot Robinson, the police are told.

    Farmer's claims.
    Farmer claims that Young first shot at him, which Young and Robinson deny and that he shot in self-defense and he points to his powder burned coat as proof that Young fired at him. But the police are positive that only two shots were fired, both by Farmer, that Farmer himself shot at Young thru his coat and when he was disarmed after his arrest tow empty shells were found in his pistol and four loaded cartridges.

    Farmer is 34 years old and came here some time ago from Manchester, Clay County, Kentucky. Young boarded at the Miami Hotel of which Robinson is the proprietor.

    Farmer is charged with shooting with intent to kill and is held without bond pending the outcome of Young and Robinson's wounds.

    Shooting victims are recovering.

    The condition of Matt Young and John Robinson, victims of the Miami hotel shooting affray Monday afternoon, was reported as fairly well at Mercy Hospital today. Farmer is now in jail pending a hearing later.

    Former watchman of the Niles Tool Works runs wild.

    What is likely to prove a murder occurred on last Monday shortly after the noon hour at the Miami Hotel, North B street and Park avenue, when H. F. Farmer, a former watchman employed at the Niles Tool Works Company, shot two men, John Robinson and Matt Young. Bother wounded men were taken to Mercy Hospital. Young is said to be in a serious condition and is likely to die. Farmer is being held until the extent of the injuries of the two men is determined.

    Farmer was employed at the Niles Tool Works as watchman until two weeks ago at which time a number of the men employed as watchmen at the big plant were laid off, no doubt because it was thought that the near-molders might now be trusted not to hurt each other. At least it is thought that that was the purpose of employing guards at the big plant. At least no other reason can be thought of.

    Farmer bound over to Jury.
    Pleads not guilty at hearing over shooting of Young and Robinson.
    H. F. Farmer, who on November 3 is alleged to have shot and wounded Matt Young and E. F. Robinson at the Miami hotel, had a preliminary hearing before Judge E. J. Kautz in municipal court today on two charges of shooting with intent to kill.

    He entered a plea of not guilty, waived examination and was bound over to the grand jury in the sum of #1000 in each case.

    He was returned to jail but it is understood that he will give bond. Young and Robinson are still in the hospital but continue on the road to recovery.

    Finley Shepherd, arrested for disorderly conduct at the Miami Hotel and threatening John Robinson, the proprietor, was found guilty and fined $5 and costs in municipal court Friday.

    Finley Shepherd charged by John Robinson of the Miami Hotel on Wednesday afternoon with disorderly conduct was arraigned in municipal court Friday morning and fined $5 and costs by Judge E. J. Kantz. The trouble was caused by Shepherd breaking up a box in the attic of the hotel after he had received the order not to molest it.

    Farmer found guilty of shooting with intent to wound.
    H. F. Farmer was found not guilty of the charge of shooting to kill John Robinson, but the jury did find him guilt of shooting with intent to wound, Friday, in the court of Clarence Murphy, common pleas judge.

    Former was not tried on the second indictment charging the same in the case of Mat Young. Farmer asked for a new trial.

    This case grew out of a shooting scrape at the Miami hotel, November 3. According to the testimony, Farmer stored some whisky in a room at the Miami hotel, while on his way to work. The next day, he went back and found water in the jugs in place of the whisky. He accused Robinson and Young of taking it. The shooting followed. Farmer testified that he saw Young draw a pistol and then he pulled a pistol.

    The jury in Judge Murphy's court Friday found H. T. Farmer guilt of shooting to wound and not guilty on the indictment charging shooting with intent to kill. The jury was out several hours. Farmer was arrested following a shooting scrape November 2 at the Miami hotel, Park Avenue and B street, in which John Robinson was wounded.

    Immediately following the verdict, Farmer, thru his attorney Andrews & Andrews, filled a motion for a new trial.

    John Robinson succumbs at 88
    John Robinson, 88, formerly of S. Front St., and for many years operator of the Miami Hotel, formerly at Park Ave. and N. B St., died of complications at 1 p.m. Monday at Baker’s Convalescent Home, 2923 Hamilton-Mason Rd.
    Born in Manchester, Ky., on Feb. 5, 1870, a son of Edward and Tennessee Phipps Robinson, he was educated in public school in that area.
    He married Caroline Moore in McKee, Ky., in 1891, and seven children were born to this marriage.
    Hotel operation
    Mr. and Mrs. Robinson moved to Hamilton in 1917, at which time Mr. Robinson took over the operation of the hotel, retiring a number of years ago.
    A member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, Burning Spring, Ky., he leaves his wife, four children, Mrs. Eva Hedges, Sidell, Ill.; Miss Ida Robinson, Louisville, Ky.; Harley Robinson, Tucson, Ariz., and Herman Robinson, Hamilton; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death by three children, Edna Robinson, Porter Robinson and Homer Robinson.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Macedonia Baptist Church, Burning Springs, Ky. Burial will be in Burning Springs. Friends may call at the Campbell Funeral Home, 640 High St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

    Sidell – John Robinson, 89, died at Hamilton, Ohio, after being in ill health five years. He was the father of Mrs. Ralph Hedges of Sidell.
    Mrs. Hedges left to attend the funeral in Hamilton.
    Mr. Robinson was known in this vicinity and Indianola where he resided about 40 years. He moved to Ohio about 35 years ago.

    Pearlee. I can't remember the year when aunt Helen started writing her stories about the Robinson and Tankersley families. She entered her small stories in a book, with a pretty Rose pattern cover. Helen's nephew Dave Kratzer inherited this wonderful keepsake. Our dear aunt Helen on the 14th of June 2013 will be 100 years old. Helen has Alzheimer's Disease and does not recognize any of her family. She lives in Antelope Valley Care Center in Lancaster, California. We treasure her few words and want to share with Ancestry family members.

    Helen wrote in one of her short stories, that her mother Mary Jane (Robinson) Kratzer always said that George Asher (Pearlee's husband) was the best looking man in town. Helen wrote in her story that one day we recieved a call from Aunt Rose (Pearlee's sister) she said she had been awakened by a bell ringing. It was the door bell, a telegram from George Asher. Pearlee had passed away during child birth of a son, the baby boy died also. Aunt Rose almost fainted at the door. Aunt Rose called her sister Mary Jane (Robinson) Kratzer right away. Uncle George had waited a week before he called the family about the news of Pearlee. George stayed in his home, and raised the two boys. He saw that they had a good education.

    Sarah was married, don't know the husbands name. Sarah and her husband never had children. It was said that Sarah never had a pleasant marriage. Sarah's husband left one day and never returned. No one ever saw him, or knew him, or knew where he went to. Sarah was not feeling very good, every day she seemed to be worse. Rose and Pearly (Sarah's sisters) came to help with Sarah. Sarah finally got to be bedfast, her coughing was very bad. One evening Sarah said she was hungry...Rose then peeled some peaches, sliced them and filled a bowl for Sarah. Sarah ate all the peaches and said that they tasted so good, she smiled at the sisters and her mother she gave a big smile...then took her last breath. They really did not know what Sarah's illness was. The doctor said that it could be Tuberculosis.

    Both boys left home soon after their mother (Mary Tennessee (Phipps) Robinson) passed away in 1898. They had always said that they would leave home, after their mother died. Both boys were teenagers when they left. They did not know where they were going, and if they had known they would not tell anyone. One day a friend of Jewel (Another sister of Joel) told her, that a friend of hers told her that when she was visiting in Arizona, she had met a man by the name of Joel Robinson. Jewel's husband had died, so Jewel said that she was going brother hunting. Jewel left and found Joel in Arizona. Joel then told Jewel that he was married and found his wife in Mexico. They had a daughter. Jewel did not see his wife or daughter while she was in Arizona. Jewel had asked Joel about Daniel, and Joel said he did not know where Dan was, or never heard from him. He just left without telling him where he was going."

    Although a native of Kentucky, Mrs. Hayes spent nearly all her life in Hamilton and was widely known and highly respected. Robinson , of Corbin, Ky., and a large number of other relatives and friends.

Aunt Helen some time back wrote some small stories of what she could remember about the Robinson Family and entered her stories in a book that we inherited....

    Both boys left home soon after their mother (Mary Tennessee (Phipps) Robinson) passed away in 1898. They had always said that they would leave home, after their mother died. Both boys were teenagers when they left. They did not know where they were going, and if they had known they would not tell anyone. One day a friend of Jewel (Another sister of Joel) told her, that a friend of hers told her that when she was visiting in Arizona, she had met a man by the name of Joel Robinson. Jewel's husband had died, so Jewel said that she was going brother hunting. Jewel left and found Joel in Arizona. Joel then told Jewel that he was married and found his wife in Mexico. They had a daughter. Jewel did not see his wife or daughter while she was in Arizona. Jewel had asked Joel about Daniel, and Joel said he did not know where Dan was, or never heard from him. He just left without telling him where he was going."

    About 1910 grandmother Mary Jane Robinson left her home in Burning Springs, Kentucky as an orphan, after her mother died. She walked away from her home and some where around Burning Springs, Kentucky, grandmother Mary worked for a short time for a farmer and his wife as a housekeeper. This couple took Mary into their home sometime after working for the farmer and his wife. Mary went to work as a waitress in a cafe in Manchester, Kentucky, where she met her husband Charles Wilson Kratzer, who was working as a printer with the newspaper in Manchester, Kentucky. They married on April 12, 1912 in Hamilton Co. Kentucky. After their marriage they moved to Springfield, Ohio where their children, Helen Julia (Kratzer) Davis, Margaret Josephine (Kratzer) Gravette and Charles Wilson Kratzer were born.
    They later moved to Dayton, Ohio where grandfather Charles worked as a printer and Linotype operator for the Dayton Daily Newspaper in Dayton, Ohio.
    Mary Jane Kratzer was the daughter of Edward George Robinson and Mary Tennessee (Phipps) Robinson, both born in Clay County, Kentucky. Mary Came from a large family, altogether 13 children, Mary was the 9th child.

    Even though his obituary states he is survived by wife, Liza Baker, of the home, I haven't been able to find a marriage for him to this "Liza".

    Robert Daily Baker did marry Dolores C. "Dolly" FALK in Madison County, Arkansas, on 17 August 1939; and they had two daughters. They divorced in 1951-52.

    Robert D. Baker, 78, of Combs died August 22 at a Springdale convalescent home. He was born Feb. 12, 1884 in Madison County, the son of John A. Baker and Josephine Phipps Baker.
    Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Liza Baker, of the home; one son, Leroy Baker of Combs, three daughters, Donna Mize, Bessie Eby and Bonnie Baker all of South Bend, Indiana; one brother, John Will Baker of Combs; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Crager Cemetery with Deaconess Mary Chaffin of St. Paul, conducting. Funeral arrangements were by Brashears Funeral Home.

    Survivors include a brother, Sam Bagwell of Florida; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.

    A funeral was held Thursday at Donaldson Funeral Home, Laurel, Md., with the Rev. Stephanie Vader officiating. Burial will be held in the Felts Memorial Cemetery, Galax, Saturday at 11 a.m.
