    Mrs. Mary Jane Marcus, aged 73, wife of Wm. Marcum, died at the family home in St. Paul Wednesday night about 12 o'clock after an illness of two weeks. Her condition had not been considered serious till a few days before her death when she began to suffer from heart failure. Mrs. Marcum, besides her husband, is survived by eight children, all of whom, except one son; Hugh, residing at McNab, Ark., were at her bedside. Those here were Mrs. Emily Tompkins, of Cass; Mrs. Nettie Hawkins of Lone Elm; Mrs. Lillie Roesch, of Little Rock; Cornelius Marcum of St. Paul; Louis Marcum of Combs; H.B. and Oscar Marcum of Dodge City, Kansas. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Mahaffey of Fayetteville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, conducted by Robert M. Reed, and burial was made at the Brashears cemetery.

    Lewis Marcum, 704 First Street, died early Wednesday in Wysong Hospital. Funeral services will be held in Crouch-Moore Chapel with burial in the Blue Ridge Cemetery, Date and time are pending.

    He was born July 10, 1877 in Kentucky, the son of William and Mary Jane Martin Marcum.

    Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lovada Marcum; four sons, John Marcum, Bellmont, Calif.; Walter Marcum Odessa; Eddie Marcum, Houston; Henry Marcum, Texas City; four daughters, Mrs. Della Nevil, Rockwall; Mrs. Florence Crawford, McKinney; Mrs. Drucille Stephens, Borger; Mrs. Mary Faulkner, California; two brothers, Neal Marcum, Oklahoma; Oscar Marcum, California; several nieces and nephews.

    He was a member of the Church of Christ at Melissa.

    Porter (Special) - Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie Hawkins, 80, Las Animas, Colorado, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Methodist Church here with Reverend C. M. Moser, Officiating.

    Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery under direction of Green Funeral Home of Wagoner. Pallbearers will include Alva Boyd, Earl Boyd, Jack Cole, Walter Eubanks, Bland Madden and Albert Yochum.

    Mrs. Hawkins, a long-time Porter resident died Sunday. Her husband, Charles Hawkins, died in 1947. A Gold Star Mother, Mrs. Hawkins moved to Colorado in 1954.

    Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Myers, Las Animas; two sons, George McElroy, Reseda, California, and Carter McElroy, Fairfield, California; three step-sons; five step-daughters; two sisters, four brothers, including Meal Marcum of Westville, and eight grandchildren.

Pine, Ark; two sons, Ralph Turner of Grass Valley, and Donald Ray Turner of De Ridder, La.; 14 brothers and sisters (identities not provided by family); 33 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.

    Private family services were held Monday at the Struve & Laporte Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Turner Bend, Ark.

    Roland was born on September 23, 1922 in Hope, Arkansas and died on February 3, 2000. He was a resident of Shreveport, Louisiana for over 45 years. He was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church and earlier had served as deacon at Rose park Baptist Church, Shreveport, Louisiana.

    Roland was veteran of World War II, having fought in one of the fieriest battles, the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed by Sally Grocery Company for many years and later worked for Wilson and Company until his retirement. He was an avid gardener throughout his life and will always be remembered for his beautiful flowers.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Jessie Suggs Marcus of Springhill, Arkansas, and brothers, Oscar Marcum, H.B. Marcum, Edmund Marcum and Harold Marcum.

    Roland is survived by his wife of 51 years. Cornelia (Connie) Garner Marcum of Shreveport, Louisiana; one daughter, Crysta Cheryl Wakefield of Dallas, TX; grandsons, Brandon Keith Caulder of Plano, Texas and Alex Rhys Bostick of Garland, Texas; brother, Vance Marcum and wife, Nell of Hot Springs, Arkansas; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Garner Braswell of Garland, Texas, Betty Garner of Bossier City, Louisiana and Cordelia Marcum of Hope, Arkansas. He is also survived by his nieces, Linda Garner Warman of Houston, Texas, Debbie Garner Park of Shreveport, Louisiana, and a nephew, Gary Garner of Garland, Texas, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

    He was born on October 7, 1924 in Franklin County, Arkansas the son of Hughes Marcum and Jessie Suggs Marcum. On August 22, 1947, he was married to Lanell McDowell. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and one grandson, Van Ryan Marcum.

    He was a WW II veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served from 1943 to 1946. He was awarded the Purple Heart in 1945. After serving his country, he graduated from Gulpton-Jones Mortuary School in Dallas, Texas. He worked for over 50 years in funeral service having worked for Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville, Madden Funeral Home in Ashdown, and Oakcrest Funeral Home in Hope.

    He was a Baptist by faith and was a member of Charity Heights Baptist Church in Hot Springs.

    He is survived by his wife, Lanell Marcum of Hot Springs; his son, Gary Van Marcum of Clermont, Florida; his daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Ed Southerland of Hot Springs Village; two grandchildren, Todd Edward Southerland and Kerry McDowell Southerland, both of Dallas, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

    Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, May 11, 2007 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs with Brother Charlie Zumwalt officiating.

    Interment will be at Evening Shade Cemetery at Hope at 4:00 PM, Friday afternoon under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

    Betty Ann Lepley, 84, formerly of Ozark, Arkansas, went home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2019, in Frisco, Texas. She was born in Cass, Arkansas, on September 19, 1935 to Samuel and Lucy White Turner. As a young child, Betty moved with her family from Cass to Hammond, Indiana. She attended Hammond High School where she was a member of National Jr. Honor Society, the girls athletic club, and the school band. She graduated in 1953, and married William Cunningham on September 19th of the same year. They went on to have 2 children, Allen, and Laura. In 1971, Betty and her family moved to Alma, Arkansas. After the death of her husband William, she would later marry Donald Lepley Sr, and move to Oklahoma City. Donald and Betty eventually settled in Ozark in 1985, where Betty served the coffee boys and all of Ozark, at the Ozark Restaurant. She was a faithful member of the Webb City Baptist Church and enjoyed her trips with her lady’s Sunday school class. Betty is known best for her column in the Spectator for “Betty’s Briefs”. When she wasn’t writing for the local community she busied herself crocheting, working crossword puzzles, and collecting Betty Boop memorabilia.

    She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Lucy Turner, first husband, Bill Cunningham, and late husband, Donald Lepley; brother, Larry Turner; son, Allen Cunningham; step-son Don Lepley Jr; step-daughter, Debbie Goins; and grandsons Brian Howe, and Austin Goins. James Koutnik on Feb. 12, 1944, in Roswell, N.M. They lived in Texas for a time until they moved to Twin Falls in 1948. Laverne was a member and a choir member of the First Baptist Church. She was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, the national Federation of Republican Women, the Twin Falls Republican Women, and worked with Girl's State. She enjoyed music and was involved in Magic Valley Chorale, the Music Club and was also involved with the Scholarship Foundation for the Music Club. She loved to sing "Sweet Adeline." She was a very special grandma, mom, mother-in-law and friend. Her love for her three grandchildren, Jessica, Philip and Christopher was a never-ending love. Always by phone or mail, something good was sure to come, whether it was a note or goodies just to say I love you! Her kindness was abundant and shared by all who walked in her path. She enjoyed visiting, having lunches and going on trips with friends.

    Surviving are her two sons, Gary Wayne (Debra) Koutnik of Twin Falls and Brett Michael (Jan) Koutnik of Alpharetta, Ga.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Loylle (O.L. "Hank" ) Hankins of Sun City West, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister and four brothers.

    A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb 9, 1998, at Reynolds Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Henry Toews of the Twin Falls First Baptist Church officiating.     Patsy Anita Evans, 82, of Bridge City passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

    Born in Combs, Arkansas, on April 11, 1931, Patsy was the daughter of Edward James Stephens and Drucilla Markham Stephens.

    She attended Tyler Junior College and graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Patsy was one of the first faculty members of Bridge City High School. She taught for 33 years with 31 of those years being dedicated to teaching home economics and family living at Bridge City High School. Patsy loved to travel, cook, and go on shopping trips. She will be missed by her family, students, and friends.

    Patsy was preceded in death by her parents.

    She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jesse Wyatt Evans; son, Stephen Wyatt Evans and wife, Donna; grandchild, Jessica Ellender and husband, Jadon; one great-grandchild, and brother, Jack Edward Stephens.

He graduated from Arp High School in 1951 before joining the Army. Jack is survived by his sons, Beau of Frisco, Texas; Todd and wife Lisa of Kentucky; and daughter, Staci Stephens Ashley and husband Steve Ashley of Odessa, Texas; grandchildren, Stockton Anna Ashley, Austin and Lauren Stephens, Trinity and Brendan Stephens; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patsy Evans. Funeral services will be held at the DFW National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas and are limited to immediate family only.

    Mr. Marcum died Sunday in a local hospital after a short illness.
    He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. O.H. Marcum of McNab; two brothers, Wayne Marcum and Ralph Marcum, of Hope.

    Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the McPeek family Mortuary Chapel for Mr. Howard W. Marcum, 24, who died Sunday at the Vandenberg Air Force Base Hospital. Interment will be in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery with Chaplin Kopelke officiating.

    Mr. Marcum was born in 1948 in Fayetteville, Ark., and was a resident of the local area for 10 years, last residing at 1664 Calle Nueve.

    He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. William Marcum of the above address; four brothers, Clyde Brown of Seal Beach; Lloyd Brown of Garden Grove, Jimmie Brown of Huntington Beach and Troy Brown of Oceanside, and two sisters: Mrs. Glinda Clifford of Otis Air Force Base, Massachusetts and Mrs. Peggy Kinman of Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii.
