    Sidney R. Brummett, 74, formerly of Lansing, died Sunday at Big Rapids.
    He had been a resident at 139 Isbell St., Lansing, for 35 years, was a member of the South Baptist Church and was an employe of the Reo, retiring 13 years ago and moving to Big Rapids. Surviving are his widow, Elizabeth; two brothers, Earl of Charlotte and Arvel of Lansing; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Dehnert and Mrs. Rudell Rattatz, both of Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be held at the Ester-Leadley Colonial Chapel at 3 p.m. Thursday and interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

    Charlotte – Earl A. Brummette, 78, of 2400 E. Clinton Trail, died Saturday in a hospital in Albuquerque, N.M., where he had been a patient two days. He was in New Mexico on vacation.
    He was born in Sturgis, Ky., and was a 40-year resident of Charlotte. He had been a farmer until his retirement.
    He is survived by his widow, the former Kressa Calhoun; daughters, Mrs. Beverly Geiser of Albuquerque, Mrs. Clyde (Barbara) Bodell, Mrs. Richard (Shirley) Crosslan and Mrs. Bruce (Joy) Hicks, all of Charlotte; sons, Douglas and Eddie Burmmette, both of Charlotte, and Richard of Grand Ledge; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Rudell Rattaz of Grand Rapids.
    Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pray Funeral Home.

    Mrs. Irene B. Cole, 60, wife of Solomon (Solly) W. Cole, 1823 Nicholasville Road, died at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Hospital after an illness of five months.
    She was a former Fayette County school teacher, and was one of the first teachers in the Head Start program. She had been on a leave of absence since April.
    She was a native of Union County and was a daughter of the late Camden R. and Ella Arnold Brummette. She received her A.B. and did graduate work at the University of Kentucky, was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Mizpha Sunday School class.
    She was a member of Phi Mu sorority, Fayette County Teachers’ Association, Kentucky Education Association and National Education Association.
    Besides her husband, she is survived by a brother, W.J. Brummette, Denver, Colo.
    The body was taken to the W.R. Milward Mortuary – Broadway, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
    Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the W.R. Milward Mortuary – Broadway, by the Rev. Franklin Owen. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery.

Surviving is her husband, Donald J.; daughter, Jill (Joseph) Brock of West Virginia; 2 step sons, James (Nancy) of Alaska and Charles (Alice) of Lansing; 4 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother, James Brumette; and sister, Betty Jo Foster.     Betty Jo “B.J.” Foster passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 after a long, valiant battle with cancer. BJ was a resident of Northern Michigan for the last 15 years after living in the Lansing area where she graduated from J.W. Sexton High School and attended Michigan State University. BJ was born June 7, 1931, the daughter of W.H. and Grace (Mullins) Brummett, who are both deceased. In July of 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, James F. Foster, who survives, and they have been “best friends” ever since. BJ so much cared for her 4 children, James B. of Northport, Kevin B. (Deb) of Suttons Bay, Jan M. (Mark) Killoran of Bath and Christopher P. (Amy) of Torch River. BJ also adored her 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She cut a wide swath through life and everyone she met became a friend. BJ had many interests and especially enjoyed dancing, reading and traveling. There was not an animal that BJ didn’t love. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice, who have been so helpful in these difficult times. Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.

    Local Teenagers Killed In Sports Car Accident
    Two Lexington teenagers were killed instantly about 7 o’clock last night when their late model sports car ran out of control on Interstate-64 near Middletown, hit an overpass divider and disintegrated.
    Solomon William Cole II, 1923 Nicholasville Road, and Douglas Malcolm Shawk, 1012 East High Street, both 18, died of skull and neck fractures and internal injuries, Charles Proctor, Jefferson County deputy coroner reported.
    Cole, a June graduate of Lafayette High School, was a son of Solly W. and Irene Brummette Cole.
    Shawk, a June graduate of Henry Clay High School, was a son of G. Malcolm and Helen Thomas Shawk.
    Authorities said Cole was driving west toward Louisville “at speeds of around 100 miles an hour” when the car hit the divider – throwing the engine about 300 years from the point of impact.
    Jefferson County Patrolman Robert Jones quoted witnesses as saying the car “had raced at speed of around 100 miles an hour” from Frankfort.
    The machine spun out of control as it neared the intersection of I064 and Ky.841, left the road and went through a median before striking the filler which supports the overpass.
    One of the boys was found still strapped in a seat belt. The other was thrown behind the car, official said, adding that pieces of the vehicle were thrown over a wide area.
    Cole was a native of Lexington and during his education at Lafayette High School he was a member of the band. He was enrolled in the University of Kentucky.
    He was a member of The Scholars, an Eagle Scout and a a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
    Besides his parents, survivors include several aunts and uncles.
    The body was taken to the W.R. Milward mortuary – Broadway.
    Shawk was a native of Columbus, Ohio, and was a member of the Henry Clay Band. He was enrolled for the fall term at Eastern State Teachers College, Richmond, and was engage in summer work at the University of Kentucky.
    He attended Faith Lutheran Church and was a member of the Greater Lexington Swim Association.
    Beside his parents, survivors include two brothers, Thomas B. Shawk and Mark Allan Shawk, both of Lexington, and his paternal grandfather, Guy E. Shawk, Mansfield, Ohio.
    The body was taken to the W.R. Milward Mortuary – Southland.

    Ronald (Ron) J. Brummette, born on June 2, 1931, aged 83, passed away at Springhurst Pines Health and Rehab, in Louisville, Ky, on Sunday, October 5, 2014. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

    Ron was the owner of R.J. Brummette Construction Company. He was an avid fisherman. He also loved camping, hunting and star gazing. He had an affinity for computers and gadgets. Ron was actively involved in learning about his family’s genealogy, as well as making sure that his annual family reunion was attended by all. He was so proud of his family. He was also an enthusiastic photographer. Ron was a member of Beargrass Christian Church.

    He was preceded in death by his mother and father William J. and Nell Brummette, his brother Bill Brummette, and his beloved daughter Susan Lea McCarty. He is survived by his wife of 65 years and the love of his life, Mary Ann; His sister Donna Petty; His devoted children Rebecca Powell, Judy Elder Wooley (Ronnie), Jay Brummette (Linda) and family friend Jeanie Burgan; His loving grandchildren Jennifer, Erica, Alan, Ryan, Krista and Melissa.

    There will be a private viewing for the immediate family.

    In lieu of flowers memorial expressions can be made to Springhurst Pines Health and Rehab, 3101 N. Hurstbourne Parkway, Louisville, Ky 40241, as the caring staff was so loving, attentive and kind to Ron and his family during his final days.

    Morganfield, Ky. – Joseph “Buddy” Whitledge, 49, died at 8:05 p.m. Sunday at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Ill., after a long illness.
    He was a Vietnam War Army veteran, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Uniontown Veterans of Foreign Wars and Masonic Lodge 66.
    Surviving are his wife, Sherry; a son, Rick of Morganfield; his mother, Dorothy Whitledge of Morganfield; and a sister, Linda Higgs of Marietta, Ga.
    Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
    Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
