- Roland Marcum
Shreveport, LA - Funeral services for Roland Marcum, 77, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2000 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Mark Sutton, pastor of Brookwood Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Park West. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, February 4, 2000.
Roland was born on September 23, 1922 in Hope, Arkansas and died on February 3, 2000. He was a resident of Shreveport, Louisiana for over 45 years. He was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church and earlier had served as deacon at Rose park Baptist Church, Shreveport, Louisiana.
Roland was veteran of World War II, having fought in one of the fieriest battles, the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed by Sally Grocery Company for many years and later worked for Wilson and Company until his retirement. He was an avid gardener throughout his life and will always be remembered for his beautiful flowers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Jessie Suggs Marcus of Springhill, Arkansas, and brothers, Oscar Marcum, H.B. Marcum, Edmund Marcum and Harold Marcum.
Roland is survived by his wife of 51 years. Cornelia (Connie) Garner Marcum of Shreveport, Louisiana; one daughter, Crysta Cheryl Wakefield of Dallas, TX; grandsons, Brandon Keith Caulder of Plano, Texas and Alex Rhys Bostick of Garland, Texas; brother, Vance Marcum and wife, Nell of Hot Springs, Arkansas; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Garner Braswell of Garland, Texas, Betty Garner of Bossier City, Louisiana and Cordelia Marcum of Hope, Arkansas. He is also survived by his nieces, Linda Garner Warman of Houston, Texas, Debbie Garner Park of Shreveport, Louisiana, and a nephew, Gary Garner of Garland, Texas, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
