Notes - PONDER, Rovy Age 82 passed away at Mercy South Hospital in Fairfield on Tuesday, August 9, 2005.He was born on October 4, 1922 in Jep Hill, Kentucky and was the son of Ben and Cordia (Mullins) Ponder. He attended White Oak School, Red Hill School and Livingston School. A Navy veteran of World War II, Rovy served as a mechanic on military fighter planes on the USS Yorktown CV 10 Aircraft Carrier from November 6, 1942 and was honorably discharged on November 25, 1945. He was enrolled in the Three CCCS on October 14, 1940 in McKee Kentucky and was honorably discharged on March 29, 1941. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. Rovy was an active member of Hamilton West Baptist Church for more than 55 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and trips to his campsite in Kentucky. He was a member of the Sportsman Club and enjoyed target shooting with many close friends. He was a Mason and an active member of the Washington #17 Lodge in Hamilton, Ohio for approximately 50 years. He married Mattie Grace Cope on August 30, 1947 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky. He was employed at Champion Paper Company from May 21, 1941 until his retirement on January 1, 1985. Rovy leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Mattie Grace; three sons William Dallas Ponder of Marion, Indiana, Fred Ponder and his wife Jean of Hamilton, Ohio, and Larry Ponder and his wife Ada of Englewood, Ohio. He also leaves behind three sisters Christine Phillips of Dayton Ohio, Anna Lee McDanell of Bradenton, Florida and Florence Mullins of Englewood, Ohio. He had four grandchildren Cristy, Mark, Cristopher and Scott; four great grandchildren Karmen, Amber, Dean and Dagan; brothers-in-law Walker Cope (Vera) and George Renner; and sisters-in-law Laura Shepherd and Ruth Ponder. He had many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Cordia; his father Ben; his stepmother Ella; brother Curt; Baby Conley; and sister Ruby Furmon. The funeral service will be held at Webb Noonan Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South "D" Street, Hamilton, at 11:00am on Saturday, August 13, 2005. Officiating the ceremony will be Pastor Luther Allen of Broadhead, Kentucky and Pastor David Williams of the Hamilton West Baptist Church. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00 until 11:00 with a Masonic service. He will be laid to rest at the Rose Hill Burial Park.
