- Rubye Laverne Koutnik, 73, of Twin Falls, died late Monday evening, Feb.2, 1998, at her home.
She was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Blue Ridge, Texas, the daughter of Johnnie and Stella Florence Davis. She was raised in Blue Ridge and finished high school, where she played women's basketball and loved the sport. She attended the University of Idaho in Moscow. She married L. James Koutnik on Feb. 12, 1944, in Roswell, N.M. They lived in Texas for a time until they moved to Twin Falls in 1948. Laverne was a member and a choir member of the First Baptist Church. She was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, the national Federation of Republican Women, the Twin Falls Republican Women, and worked with Girl's State. She enjoyed music and was involved in Magic Valley Chorale, the Music Club and was also involved with the Scholarship Foundation for the Music Club. She loved to sing "Sweet Adeline." She was a very special grandma, mom, mother-in-law and friend. Her love for her three grandchildren, Jessica, Philip and Christopher was a never-ending love. Always by phone or mail, something good was sure to come, whether it was a note or goodies just to say I love you! Her kindness was abundant and shared by all who walked in her path. She enjoyed visiting, having lunches and going on trips with friends.
Surviving are her two sons, Gary Wayne (Debra) Koutnik of Twin Falls and Brett Michael (Jan) Koutnik of Alpharetta, Ga.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Loylle (O.L. "Hank" ) Hankins of Sun City West, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister and four brothers.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb 9, 1998, at Reynolds Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Henry Toews of the Twin Falls First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at unset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reynolds Funeral Chapel. The family suggests memorials to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital or to the Scholarship Foundation for the Music Club.
