The Halsey's refer to the William C. Halsey Cemetery as the Cease Halsey Cemetery, with "Cease" being William's nickname taken from his middle name, "Cecil." New River Notes give this information on the cemetery: "From the junction of Wilson Hwy (US 58) and State Line Rd (SR 93) cross the river bridge and go south about 1/4 mi to Potato Creek Road (Rt 708). Follow the road east about 2 mi to Fox Knob Road (Rt 766) and turn left 1.6 mi down the road, turn left on Fox Wood Ln (Rt 852). Continue 0.7 mi to cemetery which is down the ridge above New River. The cemetery, which is on the right side of the road, cannot be seen from the road. There is a locked gate leading to an old field filled with broom sedge. It is necessary to walk down the ridge through the broom sedge to the edge of the woods at the far end of the field. The cemetery is not maintained. A large tree fell across the cemetery some years back and broke some of the stones and obscured others. The trunk was sawn into sections but not removed....Mr. Phipps estimated there were 20 or 25 unmarked graves here. We would concur but have shown locations of field stones which he included in his count of unmarked graves." The cemetery was surveyed by James and May Cox in Sept 1990, Joe W. Phipps, and Rich and Ginger Ballard in April 2003.
