Edmund L. Gritton Sr., 94, of Danville, died at 12:05 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2008, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home.
Edmund was born the son of Jewell and Flora Graham Gritton on Oct. 14, 1913. He graduated from Danville High School in 1934. He worked for Johnson Oil Co. operating a service station on Main Street. He later worked for Holmes Brothers for 36 years until retirement in September 1979.
Ed had an interest in steam locomotives, street cars and the history of Danville and Vermilion County. He also enjoyed woodworking, and talking to everyone about "The Good Ole Days." In his earlier years he loved operating short wave and C.B radios. Edmund was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed Danville High School baseball and Illini basketball.
He married Louella (Ross) Schonians. Although divorced, they have remained very close and she survives. Survivors also include one son, Edmund (Marsha) Gritton Jr., and two grandchildren, Greg and Gary Gritton, all of Danville. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald Gritton; daughter, Wanda Miller; and one daughter-in-law, Nancy Gritton.

Louella Schonians, 92, of Danville died at 10:05 p.m. Wednesday (May 13, 2015) at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville.
Louella was born April 10, 1923 in Sidell to James and Lillian (Swinford) Ross. Louella married Edmund Gritton Sr. in 1943 and from this union came three children, Edmund Gritton Jr., Donald Gritton and Wanda Gritton Miller. She later married Gaston Schonians and he preceded her in death in 1983.
Louella leaves behind her loving son, Edmund (Marsha) Gritton Jr.; two grandchildren; a great-grandson, with another great-grandchild on the way; a stepson, Pete Schonians; a stepdaughter, Kay Blackwood and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Donald Gritton; her daughter, Wanda Miller; a stepson, Dick Schonians and three sisters, Ada Mills, Myrtle Douglas and Jennie Sheets.
She attended Catlin Grade School and went on to work at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for 26 years. Louella worked in the surgery department and later transferred to housekeeping, before retiring in 1981.

Jewell R. Gritton, 64, Danville, a brother of A.D. Gritton, 1713 E. William St., died yesterday in Danville, according to word received here. He was an employe of the American Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Decatur. He lived here for several months recently. The body is in the Paper Funeral Home, Danville. Arrangements are incomplete.

A.D. Gritton's Mother Dies in Danville at 82
Mrs. Hannah Gritton, mother of A.D. Gritton, Decatur, died at 8 p.m. yesterday in the Lakeview hospital, Danville, at the age 0f 82.
Mrs. Gritton reared 16 children and is survived by 13 of them as well as 62 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Her husband died 10 years ago.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Pape funeral home in Danville and burial will be in Armstrong cemetery, 25 miles northwest of Danville.
