Melvin Keith, one of the old settlers of central Iowa, died at his home in Madrid on Wednesday morning at 8:20 o'clock. The deceased was about seventy years of age and a native of Tennessee. He was one of the oldest settlers coming to Dallas County in the early fifties. During the war he served as a private in Co. H. Forty fourth Iowa Infantry under Col Henderson, the present speaker. A wife, one son and two daughters survive. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the M.E. Church Rev. Stratton officiating, and the remains laid to rest in the Madrid cemetery. He was a member of the G.A.R., I.O.O.F. and Masonic lodges.
