    Catherine Marie (McCarty) Stafford, 83, passed away at her home surrounded by her family, on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 11:55 p.m.
    Catherine was born in West Point, Indiana, on May 2, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Elizabeth (Snelling) McCarty. She was a life resident of Jackson Township community. She was a graduate of Jackson Township High School and was a member of the 1949 graduating class of Home Hospital School of Nursing in Lafayette. Catherine was a homemaker.
    Catherine was a member of Jackson Heights United Methodist Church and a member of Shawnee Chapter # 523 Order of the Eastern Star.
    On September 25, 1949, Catherine married Charles E. Stafford in the Jackson Heights United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1991.
    Catherine leaves behind her six children, Dean Stafford, West Point; Russell Stafford, Romney; Bruce (Barbara) Stafford, Lafayette; Jim Stafford, Romney; twins, Kathy (Kevin) Coomey, Romney and Karen (Daniel) Slagel, Dubuque, IA; nine grandchildren, Joseph, Kevin, Kristy and Sean Stafford; Katie and Kyle Coomey; Lauren, Clare and Isaac Slagel; four great-grandchildren, Maddox, Jack, Elliot Catherine and Nora Stafford. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nova Bass and Hester Jane Clarkson, along with three brothers, Leonard, Howard and Dean McCarty.
    Friends may call at the Jackson Heights United Methodist Church, 6825 State Road 28 West, West Point, on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Services will be held in the church on Thursday, Feb. 23rd, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Chuck Tague officiating. Burial will follow in the Wheeler Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson Heights United Methodist Church.
