261 | Claude M. Boyd Dead. Claude M. Boyd, aged 24 years, the son of A.C. and Flora Boyd, died at his home on June 3, 1908 of peritonitis. Claude M. Boyd was born Oct. 10th 1884. On Feb. 11th 1906 he was married to Miss Stella S. Gritton. To this union was born one child, a girl, both of whom survive him. He was a member of the M.E. Church at Porter's Chapel, a good husband and father and a good neighbor. Funeral services were conducted at Union by Rev. J.M. Born Nov. 10, 1910, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Lige Davis and Etta Shy Gritton. He was a retired 26-year Army warrant officer and a member of Lawrence-burg Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He was the widower of Elizabeth Ann Davenport Gritton. ' Survivors include a stepdaughter, Iris June Ellecamp of Crofton, Mo.; a sister, Juanita Healey of Mercer County; and four step-grandchildren. Cleo is survived by her daughter, Sharon Schachtner of Fort Dodge; son, Roger (Patricia) Gritton of Tampa, FL;5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; son-in-law, Jim Buchan of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Gertrude (Hill) Carver; husband, Paul; daughter, Vicki Buchan; brothers, Paul and Lewis Carver; sisters, Bonnie Reno and Fay Sweeney; son-in-law, Leonard Schachtner. Cleo Bessie Carver was born August 16, 1924 in Aledo, IL. She attended school in Aldeo and graduated from Aledo High School. In October of 1941 she married Paul I. Gritton. The couple established their home in Rock Island, IL. Cleo was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for a period of time. The family then moved to Fort Dodge in 1952. Besides being a homemaker, Cleo assisted her husband at the Fort Dodge office of the Des Moines Register. 266 | Cline Powell, Wyo. - Bertha A. Cline, 88, of Powell died Tuesday at the Powell Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past four years. She was born Jan. 15, 1887, in Metz, Mo., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Epperson. She was married to Jesse G. Cline March 14, 1906, in Nevada, Mo. In 1931 they moved to the Powell area where they engaged in farming. Mr. Cline died in 1954. Mrs. Cline later moved to the Rocky Mountain Manor and then to Powell Nursing Home. She was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church of Powell and a long time member of the Ralston Club. Survivors include four sons, Orville and Robert both of Powell and Charles and Secil both of Emblem, Wyo.; one daughter Mrs. Lee Sivey of Grandview, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. 267 | Cline, Hufford R. June 17, 1922 - Oct. 7, 2008 Hufford R. "Red" Cline, Sarasota, formerly of Danville, Ill., died Oct. 7, 2008. Arrangements are being handled by the National Cremation Society. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; daughter, Sandra (Hank) Foster: and granddaughter, Katherine. Red was inducted into the U.S. Army and sent to Camp Carson, Colo., in Oct. 1942 for basic training. Marge and Red were married at Camp Carson on Dec. 30, 1942. He was then sent to France, where he proudly served our country during World War II, receiving several medals. In 1968, Red built Mr. Tire Auto Parts Store, and operated it until his retirement in 1983. Red was a past exalted ruler of Danville Elks Lodge 332, and a Mason 33rd Degree. 269 | Commercial News Danville, Il 16 May 1919 JOHN S LEE DIES AT HIS COUNTRY HOME PROMINENT FARMER HAD BEEN A SUFFERER FOR YEARS; PARALYSIS John S Lee, one of the best known residents of Blount township, died at 12:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon at his home for and ½ miles northwest of the city. He had resided there for 70 years. Thirteen years ago he was stricken with paralysis and for more than a year following the seizure was in a critical condition, but had greatly improved. Two weeks ago he suffered a second attack. Mr Lee was born July 12, 1844, in Crawford County and came here when barely past four years of age. He lived forty years on the farm his father had located and thirty years on the place nearby which he himself owned. He is survived by three sons and two daughters, SA Lee, Chicago Heights; WH Lee, Danville; Ardella, wife of CA Shanks, Collison; and Clara, wife of CB Bath, a farmer residing near the Lee home. 277 | Cooney Huenefeld, 71, of Hillsboro, died at the Vermillion County Hospital in Clinton Saturday night at 11 o'clock. He had been seriously ill at his home here for the past four weeks, after suffering a stroke. He entered the Allen Nursing Home in Rockville on Friday morning and was removed to the hospital about 8 o'clock Saturday evening, and died a few hours later. He was born in southem Indiana on November 27, 1887, and was married to Mrs. Nettie Miller [sic] in November, 1931. All of their married life was spent in the vicinity of Hillsboro. The widow is the only survivor. Mr. Huenefeld was employed at the ALCO Plant in Lafayette for 18 years and had been retired during the past few years. He attended the Hillsboro Nazarene Church. The body remained at the Crumley funeral home in Hillsboro until Tuesday afternoon, when a graveside service was held at the Waynestown Masonic Cemetery. The service was conducted by the Rev. A. R. 281 | Courier, The (Findlay, OH) - March 15, 2013 Joan C. Kuhlman, 95, died March 12, 2013 at Briar Hill Nursing Home in North Baltimore. Born October 21, 1917 in Fort Scott, Kansas to Fred & Edith (Baker) Norton. She went to school in Tulsa, Oklahoma including one year of college at Tulsa University where she joined Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She moved to Findlay with her family in 1936 when her father was hired by Marathon. Her brother, Herb (Marilyn) Norton and sister, Fredine (Al) Bloomingdale preceded her in death. She married Walter L. Kuhlman August 23, 1943, who also preceded her in death, April 12, 1995. She completed her education at BGSU with a Masters of Education. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel, Findlay. Survived by John T. (Jo Ann) Findlay; Richard F. (Debbie) Madison, Ohio; William J. (Jodie) Needham, Mass.; Mary E. Harshfield, Findlay; Margaret C. Meyer, Findlay; Kathy A. (Scott) Klingler, Findlay. She had 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Joan was a lifelong baseball enthusiast, enjoyed fishing, bowling, sewing, knitting, dancing, politics, horses and travel. She witnessed much in her life including Charles Lindbergh flying under the bridge in St. Louis in 1928. She was a telephone operator, St. Michael's school teacher & a Realtor. There will be a Catholic Mass followed by a Memorial service on April 20th at the downtown church. Exact time to be determined. Due to Joan's desire to donate her body to U.T.M.C for research, there will be no burial. He was born in Louisville and served his country in World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps. He was a graduate of Purdue University and married Mary Virginia Squires in 1949. They were married for more than 50 years until her death in 2006. He was father to six children and grandfather to nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara K. Karthman. He was survived by his sons, Joseph D. Karthman Jr. and LeRoy A. Karthman; and daughters, Mary K. Yosifov, Karen A. 284 | Crash victim dies. Injuries fatal to Rolla O. Moss Rolla Oliver Moss, 72, of Danville Route 3, northeast of Danville, died Sunday (Nov. 18, 1956) in Lake View Hospital, where he had been a patient since Thursday. He had suffered injuries in a two-car collision on the Bowman Ave. Rd. south of Bismarck last Thursday morning. He is the 24th traffic fatality in Vermilion County this year. A retired farmer and stock buyer, he was born in Blount Township Jun 3, 1884, son of John Burton and Martha Isabell Watson Moss. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Moss on Aug. 10, 1904, married Merle L. Hoover who died March 19, 1930. On April 29, 1936, he married Minnie Frumm who preceded him in death march 13, 1956. Surviving are five children by the first marriage, John F. of Perrysville, Frank of Alvin Route 1, Paul of Danville Route 3, and Mrs. Florence Huffman and Mrs. Marjorie Ping, also of Alvin Route 1; three brothers, Ernest U. and Frances Elmer Moss, both of Danville, and Era B. Moss of Danville Route 3; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A daughter died in infancy. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Edmund & Dickson Funeral Home with the Rev. W. C. On April 12, 1942, she married Keith "Pappy" Cline. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1992. 294 | Danville Commercial-News 1922 Mrs. Margaret J. Van Vickle Passes Away Mrs. Mary Margaret Johnson Van Vickle, wife of Everett Van Vickle, residing on rural route two, seven miles northwest of Danville, passed away at the family residence at 6 o'clock last evening following a long illness. Funeral services are to be held Thursday afternoon at the Union Corners church at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in the Johnson cemetery. Mrs. Van Vickle was born in Illinois Aug. 23, 1861 and was 61 years of age and known to residents of that neighborhood as "Aunt Mary". She was born and raised in the neighborhood in which she died and is survived by six sons. They are Charley, Bart and Mac, all of Iowa, Coy, Ray and Jewell who reside near the old home place. She leaves to mourn her besides her six sons, three brothers. They are James, Joseph and Edward Johnson, all of this county. 297 | DANVILLE – Wilma Hotsinpiller, 87, of Danville passed away on Sept. 27, 2008, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Logan Campus, Danville. Wilma was born March 31, 1921, a daughter of Russell and Viola Tracie Cline. She married Mason Hotsinpiller in 1940. He preceded her in death in 2006. Wilma was a loving and caring mother of sons Denney and Steven Hotsinpiller. Steven preceded her in 1996. She is survived by a son, Denny; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, H.R. "Red" Cline of Sarasota, Fla. Wilma was a graduate of Oakwood High School. In her working life, Wilma was a ladies fashion expert and worked at several ladies clothing stores in Danville. Before her eyesight failed, Wilma was an avid and sensitive reader; her favorite work of fiction was Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird. She collected figurine angels and enjoyed flowers and gardening. A celebration of Wilma's life will be held at a future time when the extended family can congregate. Per her and her family's wishes, she will be cremated at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
