- Decatur-Esther E. Carrier, 87, of Forsyth exited this life into her eternal life Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Heartland Health Care Center.
Esther was born March 10, 1926 in Tilton, Illinois, the daughter of Anthony and Bessie (Heck) Gritton. Esther was a farmer's wife and a loving mother before working first at a grain elevator and then became employed by the U.S Government administering the ASVAB test to high school students throughout Central Illinois before retiring. Esther was also a writer. Her book "Return to Tough Street" chronicled the life of her parents, siblings, and herself. Her family is so grateful to her for sharing the love, hardship, and success of our wonderful family. Esther enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, pinochle, her family and friends. One of her favorite things was watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in whatever activities they participated in. She and her family were charter members of Crestview Christian Church where she was a very active and faithful servant. She married Jac Carrier November 18, 1945 in Central Christian Church in Decatur. He preceded her in death November 27, 2005. They shared over sixty years together.
She leaves behind her daughters Patricia (Charles) Ohlemeyer of Maroa and Paula Armstrong of Forsyth, son-in-law Richard Kaufman of Clinton, six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was reunited in Heaven with her parents, husband, daughter Pamela Kaufman, sisters Ruth, Edna, Helen, and Leora, and brothers Paul, Ivan, and Harlan.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the loving staff of Arcadia at Heartland Health Care Center and Safe Haven Hospice. Their caring support will be remembered and appreciated more than they could ever know.
Private family burial will be at Cerro Gordo Cemetery in Cerro Gordo. A memorial service to celebrate Esther's life will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Prairie Avenue Christian Church, 2201 E. Prairie Decatur, with Pastor Jason Butterick Officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or to a church of the donor's choice.
