- Obituary - Gritton
Edwin Lee Gritton, son of Floyd and Sarah Evans Gritton was born September 16, 1862, in Mercer County, Bondville, Ky., and departed this life in Memorial Hospital, March 20, 1953, making him 90 years, 6 months and 4 days old.
He was united in marriage to Susan M. Herndon of Anderson county, Kentucky 55 years ago. To this union was born 6 children, four sons and two daughters, all of whom survive, expect one son who died in infancy. Left to mourn his passing is his aged wife, three sons, A.H. of Spokane, Washington, Mitt C., of Hermiston, Ore., W. Terrill of Summersville, Mo., Mrs. Mary E. Taber, Mountain View, Mo., and Mrs. Ada Becker of Mountain View. Also surviving are six devoted grandchildren, Edward Lee, Martha Sue and Al Ray Taber, and Edwin, John Lee and Suehelen Gritton; seven nieces and five nephews, most of whom reside in his home state of Kentucky. Many other relatives, a host of friends and loving neighbors will miss him for to know him was to love him. His parents, four brothers, one of them his twin, and three sisters all preceded him in death.
He joined the Methodist Church of Salvisa, Ky., very young in life and remained a staunch worker for his Lord until the end.
After moving to the Western part of the United States with his young family, he was ordained a Methodist minister and followed this work many years before ill health forced him to retire.
In the early twenties he moved from the west to an Ozark farm in Texas County, near Arroll, Missouri, where he lived, until he and his wife moved with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becker to Mountain View about six years ago.
Funeral services were held at the Mountain View Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Neal Neff officiating. Burial was in the Arroll Cemetery.
