Kenneth Fairchild, 79 of Cozad, Nebraska, died May 13, 2006, at the Cozad Hospital.
He was born June 5, 1926, at Miller, Nebraska, to Harold and Hazel Sea Fairchild. He attended school at Miller and later graduated from Cozad High School. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII. After his discharge, he was employed at a hay mill at Darr, Nebraska. In 1949, he hired on with the U.P.R.R.
On September 21, 1952, he married June Holland-Jones. Throughout his career with the railroad, he also did mechanic, farm and carpentry work. He retired from the Union Pacific in 1990. With his talent for woodwork, articles he made included furniture for his children and grandchildren. He also had enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was a member of the Cozad Christian Church and United Transportation Union. He was a former member of the Cozad Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, June of Cozad; a daughter, Barbara Jones Block of Cozad; two sons, David (Betsy) Jones of Columbine Valley, Colorado, and Randy Fairchild and special friend, Debbie Hoag of North Platte, Nebraska; three sisters, Betty (Jim) Burt of Lincoln, Nebraska, Cecil Ackerman of Gothenburg, Nebraska, and Beverly (Terry) Williams of Cozad; a brother, Conrad (Charlene) Fairchild of Ridgecrest, California; grandchildren, Cherry (Archie) Canas of Cozad, Cynthea Naylor and fiance, Mark Russell of North Platte, Lindsey Jones of New York City, New York, Heidi (Zeb) Delancy of Denver, Wendy Phares of San Francisco, California, Susan Fairchild of Denver, Colorado, Randi Fairchild of Toledo, Ohio, Sara Fairchild of Flint, Michigan, and Raelyn and Tony Gilmore of North Platte; great-grandchildren, Alexa and Allie Canas of Cozad, Kaitlyn Naylor, Adeline and Drue Russell, all of North Platte, Maya Delancy of Denver, and Baby Noah of Flint, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol and husband, Lindy Carmen and Darlene and husband, Lavern Jeffry; and two brothers-in-law, Stan Ackerman and Marvin Fagot.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2006, at the Cozad Christian Church with Jeremy Jech officiating. Cremation will follow services with inurnment in the Cozad Cemetery.
