      PIONEER RESIDENT OF COUNTY DIES IN ROCK ISLAND HOME
      Mrs Mary E Pickup, 73 years of age, a lifelong resident of Rock Island and Mercer counties, and a resident of the city of Rock Island for the last thirty years, died at 4:30 this morning at the home of J.A. Morris, 822 Twenty-ninth street, Rock Island. Death was due to heart trouble and terminated an illness of a few days' duration, although she had been afflicted with heart trouble for a number of years.
      Mrs Pickup was a member of a number of societies and was identified with many church and patriotic activities. She was a member of the First Methodist church of Rock Island and was affliliated with the Harriett Henderson memorial class of that congregation. She also held membership in Eudorah Rebekah lodge No. 73; John Buford Woman's Relief Corps, No 66; Colonel Brackett circle, No 58; Rock Island chapter, No. 260, Order of Eastern Star and the Rock Island American Legion auxiliary.
      Mary E Griffith was born Jan 14, 1853, on a farm in Mercer county, near Aledo, Ill. She was reared in that community and received her education in the public schools. She was married to George W Pickup Aug 30, 1871, the ceremony taking place in Burlington, Ia. Her husband preceded her in death in 1893. She moved to Rock Island in 1896 and had since resided here. Surviving are the two sons, George A Pickup, Chicago, and Roy Pickup of Parkersburg, W Va. Three sons preceded her in death. A half-brother, Blaine Griffith of Alberta, Can., also survives, with four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
      Funeral services will be held at 2 Sunday afternoon at the First Methodist church in Rock Island. The Rev Joseph A Chapman will conducted the services. Burial will be in a cemetery seven and one-half miles southwest of Aledo. The Rev Sidney A Guthrie, pastor of the First Methodist church at Aledo, will officiate at the grave.
