Notes - Hillsdale, Ind. - Gerald "Mike" Miller, 73, of rural Hillsdale, passed away at 9:17 p.m. EDT Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at his residence. He was born November 11, 1944 in Danville, Illinois and was raised by his paternal grandparents, Homer and Agnes Miller. He married Wanda Gritton on July 13, 1988 in Danville, Illinois. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2004.
Survivors include his children: Heather Ball of Covington, Indiana and Michael A. (Jorie) Miller of rural Hillsdale, Indiana; five grandchildren, Alexandria; Austin; Nicole; Alex and Brandon, and one sister: Marla Abbott of Indiana. Mike was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and three brothers.
Mike was a Lab Technician at VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, Illinois retiring in 1998. Prior to working there he was a Union Meat Cutter. He was a Vietnam War veteran serving with the United States Navy. Mike was a 1963 graduate of Oakwood High School. He was a former member of the Newport American Legion Post 184. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors, watching the Green Bay Packers, college softball and NASCAR. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial: 11 a.m. CDT Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Danville National Cemetery in Danville, Illinois with military rites by the Danville American Legion Post 210; Visitation: 9 a.m. CDT Wednesday, August 1, 2018 until time of graveside services at the VA Protestant Chapel, 1900 East Main Street, Danville, Illinois 61832.
