    Eunice Gritton, Resident Here 30 Years, Succumbs
    Mrs. Eunice Gritton, 63, of 185 Sherman street, died at 4:04 a.m. today at Bellevue hospital, after an extended illness. The body was taken to the Geo. M. Wittich Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Robert Goebel, pastor of the First Christian church in charge. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery.
    Mrs. Gritton was born March 18, 1895, at Joy, Ill., the daughter of Theodore and Mary Person Matthews. She had been a resident of Muscatine for the past 30 years, coming here from New Boston. Her marriage to Lewis Gritton took place Oct. 15, 1914, at Burlington. She was a member of the First Christian church.
    Survivors include her husband; three sons, Dr. Charlie Gritton, Henderson, Ky., Paul Gritton, Ft. Dodge, and Robert E. Gritton, Muscatine; four daughters, Mrs. E.L. Elliott, Mrs. Carl Irwin, Mrs. Vernon Webb and Mrs. Clifford Hintermeister, Muscatine; one sisters, Mrs. Nellie Diehl, New Boston; and 16 grandchildren.
    Her parents and one half-sister preceded her in death.

    SERVICES FOR G. EVELYN ELLIOTT will be Friday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Mrs. Elliott, 74, 143 Sherman St, died Tuesday evening at her home, Rev. Roger Miller of the First Christian Church will officiate and burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be today at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the First Christian Church, the Muscatine Hospice and Community Nursing Services.
    She was born March 17, 1915 at New Boston, Ill, and had lived in Muscatine since 1928. She married Edwin L. "Ted" Elliott on August 28, 1937 in Muscatine. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Rebecca CWF Circle. Mrs. Elliott was employed by the Muscatine County Abstract Co., J.B. Mark and Sons Insurance, Muscatine Lighting, Stanley Consultants, and did the accounting for the family business of Elliott Brothers. She also worked for many years for the Driver's License Division of the Iowa Highway Patrol. She retired in 1984 as an office employee of Louis Rich and taught evening classes in ABC Shorthand and typing at Muscatine Community College before retiring from teaching in 1987.
    Survivors include one son Thomas Elliott, and one foster child, Steve Harfst, Muscatine, three daughters, Mrs. Sandra Carpenter, Moscow, Mrs. Jerry (Barbara) Musgrove and Mrs. Juanita Sheese both of Muscatine, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Dr. Charlie Gritton, Henderson, Ky., Paul Gritton, Fort Dodge, and Robert Gritton, Russelville, Ark., and three sisters, Mrs. Carl (Vivian) Irwin, Mrs. Margaret Webb and Mrs. Clifford (Marjorie) Hintermeister, all of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband in 1964.

    Dr. Charlie Leroy Gritton, 86, of Henderson, Ky., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2003 at Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, Ky.
    Graveside services 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Millersburg Cemetery.
    Dennison Funeral Home in Aledo is handling arrangements.
    Charlie was born Jan. 4, 1917 in New Boston, the son of Lewis and Eunice Matthews Gritton. He married his wife of 64 years, Virginia Hyett. She died Feb. 19, 2003.
    Charlie was a 1948 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.
    He was a Henderson Chiropractor for over 50 years.
    Charlie was a Kentucky Colonel in World War II U.S. Army veteran - founding member of the Henderson Disabled American Veterans.
    He was a Seventh Street P.T. A. President - United Commercial Travelers - served as Indiana State Treasurer.
    Survivors include three daughters: Myrna Taylor of Franklin, Ky.; Marcia Littlefield of Lawrenceville, Ga.; and Joy Gritton of Morehead, Ky.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Vivian Irwin, Margaret Travis, and Marjorie Hintermeister, all of Muscatine, Iowa; one brother: Robert Gritton of Russellville, Ark.; nieces and nephews; and a special neighbor: Donald Steele of Henderson, Ky.
    He was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter: Kahla Bowling; his parents; one sister: Evelyn Elliott; and one brother: Paul Gritton.

    Paul Gritton, FORT DODGE, Iowa #45;- Paul I. Gritton, 79, Fort Dodge, formerly of Muscatine, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort Dodge. Graveside services were Monday at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill., with military rites. Mr. Gritton was born on Feb. 13, 1923, in New Boston, Ill., the son of Lewis and Eunice Mathews Gritton. He married Cleo Carver on Oct. 17, 1941 in Kahoka, Mo. He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1941. He moved to Fort Dodge in 1952. He was manager of the Des Moines Register Agency for 32 years, retiring in 1984. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Fort Dodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1856 and Northwest Iowa boat club. Survivors include his wife, Cleo of Fort Dodge; a son, Roger and his wife, Patricia, of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Sharon Schachtner and her husband, Leonard, of Fonda and Vicki Buchan and her husband, James, of Cedar Falls; two brothers, Dr. Charlie Gritton and his wife, Virginia, of Henderson, Ky. and Robert Gritton and his wife, Delores, of Russellville, Ark.; three sisters, Vivian Irwin and her husband, Carl, Margaret Webb Travis and her husband, Walter, and Marjorie Hintermeister and her husband, Clifford, all of Muscatine; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
