    Mrs. Hazelbaker. Mrs. Hazel Goodner Hazelbaker, 72, of 1326 1/2 Harmon, died unexpectedly at 10:30 p.m. yesterday while baby sitting at a residence at 1912 Oak.
    Coroner Don Goodwin conducted an inquiry and found death was from a heart attack.
    Born Jan. 22, 1892, in Danville, she was a daughter of Milo and Many Jane Swisher.
    She was married to Burley Hazelbaker in 1947 in Danville. He preceded her in death Sept. 1, 1949.
    Mrs. Hazelbaker was a member of the Methodist Church. Her hobbies were quilting and flower gardening.
    Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. harry E. (Mary)Shepherd of Danville; three sons, Eugene E. Goodner, Melwin D. Goodner, and Jack M. Goodner all of Danville; a sister Mrs. Jule Potter of Danville, and 16 grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a brother and two sisters.
    The body is at the Wdmund & Dickson Funeral Home where friends will be received 7-9 p.m Friday and 3-5 and 7-9 Saturday. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery, northwest of Danville.

    Melvin Dean Goodner, 88, of Danville passed away at 1:35 p.m. Monday (May 14, 2012) at the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System, Danville.
    He was born Aug. 24, 1923 in Danville, the son of Kenneth and Hazel Swisher Goodner. He married Bette Jean Wood on Jan. 2, 1943. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gene and Jack Goodner, and twin sisters, Marie Goodner and Mary Shepherd.
    He is survived by four daughters, Pam (Dennis) Starkey, Paula Lucas, Julie Barney and Sue Stahl (John Bukowski); two sons, Mark (Kathy) Goodner and Bill (Joanne) Goodner; grandchildren, Mike (Kari) Jameson, Rob (Gayle) Starkey, Jody (Cathy) Starkey, Jennifer (Dave) Schnell, Tim Barney (Michelle Haas), Brian Barney (Jackie Pitlik), Jessica (Shane) Hogan, Adam Zorns (Traca Shahan), Matt (Brittany) Goodner, Mike (Angela) Goodner, Nicki (Matt) Lenton, Katie Goodner and Jessica (Jeromie) Nazzise; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mary Morrow and Jo Ann Goodner; one brother-in-law, Harry Shepherd and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

    Mary V. Shepherd, 80, of Danville, passed away on March 26, 2011, at North Logan Health Care Center.
    Mary was born on January 19, 1931, in Danville, daughter of Kenneth and Hazel (Swisher) Goodner. She married Harry E. Shepherd Jr. on August 13, 1950, at Central Christian Church in Danville. He survives along with two children: Terry (Julie) Shepherd and Karen (Greg) Clapper both of Danville; brother Melvin Goodner and sisters-in-law Jo Ann Goodner and Mary Morrow, all of Danville; three grandchildren, Jill (Mike) Poggendorf of Danville, Cory Clapper of Elmhurst and Tyler Shepherd of Danville; two great-grandchildren, Elliana and Madison; as well as a close and large extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Marie; two brothers, Gene and Jack; sister-in-law, Bette; and her little angel, great-granddaughter Isabella.
    Mary enjoyed working in the yard, reading, keeping a journal, and the neighborhood kids from Harmon Avenue. But most of all she was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and homemaker.
    A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, with Pastor Jim Russell officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. In lieu of flowers please make memorials in Mary's name to North Logan Health Care Center.

    He was born in Danville on Aug. 14, 1933, the son of Kenneth E. and Hazel E. (Swisher) Goodner.
    Jack married JoAnn Taylor on Jan. 30, 1959 in Georgetown. She survives. Other survivors include his two children, Todd (Lisa) Goodner and Lu Ann (Jack) Picklap; grandchildren, Travis and Mason Goodner and Jeff and Kristen Picklap; one sister, Mary (Harry) Shepherd; one brother, Melvin Goodner; one sister-in-law, Mary (Gene) Morrow and very special nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eugene Goodner and one infant sister, Marie.
    Jack was a graduate of Danville High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War and served as a submariner. He previously owned his own real estate office, Land Office Realty, and retired from the Operations Department at the University of Illinois in 1998.
    Jack was a member of the American Legion Post 210 and a member of the Danville Barbershop Chorus for many years. He previously served on the Vermilion County War Museum Board and served as a golf ranger at Harrison Park Golf Course. Jack loved to play golf and ride his motorcycle.
    The essence of Jack's life was showing love to his family and friends through random acts of humor, wit, words, and song. It was not uncommon to find an old treasured family photo in the mail from him or a small gift tucked beside our dinner plate at one of our many family gatherings.
