  • Notes 
    • Several researchers give Merritt's parents as William Gritton and Jane Lipsey. However, William Gritton (husband of Jane Lipsey) died in 1823, and there is no record of a second marriage for her. And those same researchers give Merrit's birth date as 8 Jan 1828. There is obviously a problem with those dates.
