- Edith Bloomfield
Edith I. Bloomfield, 92, of Santa Maria passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, in a Valencia, California Hospital. She was born June 24, 1911, at Pierce, Neb., one of eleven children of August F. and Mary D. (Earl) Koeppe. Edith graduated from high school in Pierce, Neb., and married her husband, Scott Bloomfield on June 16, 1930. They moved to Kansas and began raising their family. In 1941, the family moved to Southern California and following Scott's death in 1945, Edith began working at Betty Brooks, a clothing manufacturing company. She later began a 25 year career with the Eagle Prittcher Co. in the manufacturing of Formica, retiring in 1976, as an inspector. Following her retirement, Edith enjoyed traveling and became active in the Senior Citizens of Cerritos and Artesia.
In 1988, Edith moved to Santa Maria and became active in the Santa Maria Valley Seniors and developed an interest in working with ceramics. Edith loved and enjoyed her family and always remembered every family members birthday and special days.
Edith is survived by her daughters, JoAnn Markin and husband, Robert of Los Osos, Calif., and Virginia I. Litch and husband, Walter of Valencia, Calif.; son-in-law Johann of Santa Maria; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Cock of Fresno, Calif.; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Edith was preceded in death by her husband Scott L. Bloomfield on Dec. 23, 1945; son, Henry Bloomfield on Dec. 15, 1966; daughter, Dorothea "Dot" Johann on April 1, 2003; five brothers, five sisters and a grandson.
Visitation will be Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. at Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, in the Santa Maria Cemetery with Pastor Jim Schrotel of the Unity Chapel of Light, officiating.
Arrangements are in the car of Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
