He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing. Ron was the owner of R.J. Brummette Construction Company. He was an avid fisherman. He also loved camping, hunting and star gazing. He had an affinity for computers and gadgets. Ron was actively involved in learning about his family’s genealogy, as well as making sure that his annual family reunion was attended by all. He was so proud of his family. He was also an enthusiastic photographer. Ron was a member of Beargrass Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his mother and father William J. and Nell Brummette, his brother Bill Brummette, and his beloved daughter Susan Lea McCarty. He is survived by his wife of 65 years and the love of his life, Mary Ann; His sister Donna Petty; His devoted children Rebecca Powell, Judy Elder Wooley (Ronnie), Jay Brummette (Linda) and family friend Jeanie Burgan; His loving grandchildren Jennifer, Erica, Alan, Ryan, Krista and Melissa. (Connie) Smith, 82, Coeur d'Alene, peacefully took her final journey home on April 3, 2005. Born Feb. 18, 1923, in Rosholt, Wis., to Nick and Mary Frydach, Connie was raised on the family farm. On Sept. 4, 1943, she married John Smith in Chicago. After John's discharge from the Navy, they moved to the Inland Northwest, where they resided until moving to Alaska in 1959, living first on Adak Island and then in Fairbanks. Connie retired from the Northern Commercial Company in Fairbanks in the early 1970s. In 1974, they moved to Spirit Lake, and in 1989, to Hayden. Connie loved traveling, golf and entertaining friends. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandi and Ron Wright, Ephrata, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Anke Smith, Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren Tammy and Gene Hyden, Post Falls, Brian and Terri Robinson, Leavenworth, Wash., Kevin Robinson, Wenatchee, Wash., Amanda Smith, Seattle, Nichole Smith, Anchorage, Alaska, Connor and Alexander Smith, Fort Worth, Texas; together with five great-grandchildren. | 2759 | Roy K. Ponder, 57, of Fairbanks, Alaska, passed away tragically on April 7, 2013, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on the Parks Highway in Alaska. Born on March 28, 1956, Roy was the son of Seldon and Edna Friend Ponder and grew up in the Stroudsburg, Pa., area. In his youth he often could be found working on vehicles and motorcycles, rebuilding his first engine at 14. At a very young age, Roy became the man of the house, developing life skills that many don't achieve until much later in life. Integrity, loyalty, courage and responsibility are just a few qualities he gained and maintained throughout his life. Roy graduated from the Stroudsburg Union High School in 1974. He attended York College of Pennsylvania, where he achieved a bachelor of science degree, cum laude, in Police Science in 1978. After college Roy was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1978, where he served for 15 years. Roy had many accomplishments in the Army but few were as dear to him as his graduation from the U.S. Army Ranger School. His superiors, peers and subordinates described him as a man who could do absolutely anything, was extremely intelligent, cool under stress, highly flexible, completely reliable with unquestionable integrity and moral standards. He excelled in all tasks and challenges. Throughout his military career, Roy found himself stationed at several different places, including Germany, East Tennessee, Colorado, Alabama, West Virginia and Alaska. While stationed in Alaska, he knew he had found the place he would call home. Upon his departure from military service, Roy began to contribute to the Fairbanks community. In 1993, Roy was employed for the State of Alaska Correctional Department as a correctional officer. During the next six years, he had what is described by fellow officers as a meteoric rise through the ranks, ending with the title of acting superintendent. Roy's latest endeavor was as general manager of The Woodway in Fairbanks. Roy had a major influence on every business and employee he ever worked with. One of Roy's most cherished achievements was the handcrafting of a home for himself and his wife Teresa. The craftsmanship and quality of that home is representative of the attention Roy paid to all aspects of his life. His love for Alaska was displayed in the activities he enjoyed, including hiking, riding snow machines, camping, traveling the state and simply being outdoors. Paramount for Roy was family. He enjoyed visits with his children and especially his grandchildren as often as possible. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Survivors include Teresa, his wife of 23 years; his sons, Austin (Angela) Ponder of Jessup, Md., and Daniel Roy Ponder of Carlisle, Pa.; daughter, Kristen (Chad) Trent of Erwin, Tenn., and son Ryan Dark of Bluefield, W. Va.; his siblings, brother, Joe Ponder of Seattle, Wash., and sister, Pat Ponder Smith of Bonita Springs, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Hall of Princeton, W. Va., and Keith Hall, of Knoxville Tenn.; sisters-in-law, Brenda Helton of Lerona, W.Va., and Kathy Kelley of Princeton, W. Va.; granddaughters, Megan Ponder and Madison and McKinsey Trent; father- and mother-in-law, Dan and Leora Hall, Princeton W.Va.; uncle, Dyche Ponder of Lancaster, Ky.; aunt, Sally Dee Eirod of Madisonville, Tenn.; his nieces, nephews and other relatives. Ruby was born in Sunsbury, OH the daughter of the late Cleveland and Elizabeth (Hopkins) Wilmot. She was a homemaker most of her life. She worked in the Tent Factory in Germantown during WWII while her husband Donald served in the Army in the South Pacific. She was a member of the Eaton Church of Christ and recently was attending Spring Hill Church of Christ in Middletown. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Donald E. Rieger, four brothers and four sisters and one great great-granddaughter Holly. | 2762 | Ruby E. Furmon, age 83, of Hamilton, died on Thursday, October 23, 2003, at Vitas Hospice at Ft. Hamilton Hospital. Born in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, on February 21, 1920, she was the daughter of Ben J. and Cordia (Mullins) Ponder. On September 23, 1939, in Livingston, Kentucky, Ruby married Willie Furmon. Willie preceded her in death on May 8, 1997. They enjoyed wintering together in Bradenton, Florida. Mrs. Furmon was very devoted to her family and an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was active in Sunday School, the Hilltoppers and enjoyed her position as a greeter at the church where she welcomed her friends and church family. Ruby is survived by her two children, Charles R. Furmon, Butler County Commissioner, and his wife Peggy of Hamilton, and Carol Sandlin and her husband Gary of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Pam Furmon and Chad Furmon, both of Hamilton, Stephanie Sandlin of Atlanta, Georgia, and Melissa Sandlin Clark and her husband Brian of Richmond, Virginia; brother, Rovy Ponder and his wife Mattie of Hamilton; three sisters, Florence Mullins and her husband Jay of Englewood, Ohio, Christine Phillips of Dayton, Ohio, and Anna Lee McDanell and her husband Frank of Bradenton, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. | 2763 | Rubye Laverne Koutnik, 73, of Twin Falls, died late Monday evening, Feb.2, 1998, at her home. She was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Blue Ridge, Texas, the daughter of Johnnie and Stella Florence Davis. She was raised in Blue Ridge and finished high school, where she played women's basketball and loved the sport. She attended the University of Idaho in Moscow. She married L. James Koutnik on Feb. 12, 1944, in Roswell, N.M. They lived in Texas for a time until they moved to Twin Falls in 1948. Laverne was a member and a choir member of the First Baptist Church. She was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, the national Federation of Republican Women, the Twin Falls Republican Women, and worked with Girl's State. She enjoyed music and was involved in Magic Valley Chorale, the Music Club and was also involved with the Scholarship Foundation for the Music Club. She loved to sing "Sweet Adeline." She was a very special grandma, mom, mother-in-law and friend. Her love for her three grandchildren, Jessica, Philip and Christopher was a never-ending love. Always by phone or mail, something good was sure to come, whether it was a note or goodies just to say I love you! Her kindness was abundant and shared by all who walked in her path. She enjoyed visiting, having lunches and going on trips with friends. Surviving are her two sons, Gary Wayne (Debra) Koutnik of Twin Falls and Brett Michael (Jan) Koutnik of Alpharetta, Ga.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Loylle (O.L. "Hank" ) Hankins of Sun City West, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister and four brothers. Indications were that he died of a heart attack. The car was in a ditch. No injuries were found on the body. Davis had been a rural carrier for six years at Blue Ridge. | 2794 | Shooting was over $11 sale. Victims of gun fight are not out of danger. Self-defense is Farmer's claim. Police say two shots were fired and both by man under arrest. The condition of Matt Young and John Robinson, the two men shot by H. F. Harmer at the Miami Hotel Monday afternoon, was reported as fair at Mercy Hospital today, but neither an d especially Young have passed the danger line. The weapon used by Farmer was a 45 calibre Colt's revovlvor carrying a heavy ball. The bullet that struck Young entered to the right of the navel, ranged backward and it is thot passed thru the stomach, came out at the right hip and imbedded itself in a nearby wall where it was dug out and recovered by the police. Robinson was shot in the left hip and the bullet was not located early today. Argument over sale. The police say, as a result of their investigation, that the trouble occurred over a sale transaction between Farmer and Robinson involving H. Farmer and his son-in-law James Jones, went to the hotel in a taxicab and Farmer at once started an argument with Robinson when they me t in the wash room in the rear. Young tried to act as peacemaker and to restrain Farmer from violence. But Farmer drew his pistol, shot Young and then Shot Robinson, the police are told. Farmer's claims. Farmer claims that Young first shot at him, which Young and Robinson deny and that he shot in self-defense and he points to his powder burned coat as proof that Young fired at him. But the police are positive that only two shots were fired, both by Farmer, that Farmer himself shot at Young thru his coat and when he was disarmed after his arrest tow empty shells were found in his pistol and four loaded cartridges. Farmer is 34 years old and came here some time ago from Manchester, Clay County, Kentucky. Young boarded at the Miami Hotel of which Robinson is the proprietor. | 2798 | Sidell resident’s mother succumbs Sidell (Special) Mrs. Caroline Robinson, 88, mother of Mrs. Eva Hedges of Sidell and a former resident of Indianola, died Wednesday at a nursing home in Oxford, Ohio. A patient at the nursing home for three years, she had been in poor health for some time. Funeral arrangements are being completed in Ohio. Born May 7, 1875, Miss Catherine [Caroline] Moore was married to John Robinson in 1893. Besides Mrs. Hedges, Mrs. Robinson leaves one other daughter, Miss Ida Robinson of Guadalajara, Mexico; two sons, Herman of Hamilton, Ohio and Harley of Dayton, Ohio; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. | 2799 | Silas L. Regan Gooding - Silas L. Regan, 91, of Gooding, died Sunday morning at Green Acres Terrace Nursing Home here. He was born Feb 10, 1888, at Metz, Mo. He married Maude Reed in Missouri and they were later divorced. He moved to Gooding from Missouri in 1918, where he has farmed, worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and the Big Wood Canal Co. He married Kate Pangaza in Gooding in 1938. She died in 1958. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge of Gooding and of the First Baptist Church. He is survived by a son, Lee Regan of Twin Falls; a daughter, Mrs. Lucille Crews of Portland; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters and a grandson. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Sears Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Patricia Koskela of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
