602 Clayton Howard Counts, 78, of North Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Memphis, assembler at Lincoln Engineering, died of Alzheimer disease Wednesday at his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Memphis, with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery East. Forest Hill Funeral Home East has charge. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church. Mr. County, the husband of Dorothy Marie Counts, also leaves six daughters, Dorothy Evelyn Wells and Leta Joyce Hudson, both of North Little Rock, Kathryn Lee Hudson of Sullivan, Mo., Eloise Effie Allison of Plano, Texas, Alice Emeline Rios of Elmedorf, Texas and Karen Sue Zanie of st. Louis; two sons, Kenneth Howard County of North Little Rock and Blyde Arthur Counts of High Ridge, Mo.; a sister, Flossie Schneider of Campbell, Mo.; four brothers, Floyd Counts of Campbell, William Counts and Leamon Countys, Both of St. Louis, and Norman Counts of Maiden, Mo., and 14 grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association of the Visiting Nurses Association’s ‘Caring for Life’ Hospice in Little Rock.

603 CLEVE L. ESTEP SR., 93, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 5, 2012 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.

Born April 15, 1918 in Morehead, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Peyton and Myrtle "Murtie" Estep. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he was a Machine Gunner Heavy and qualified as both a rifle marksman and carbine marksman. He served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre, was involved in the invasion of Okinawa, Ryukyus and the Southern Philippines and earned 5 bronze stars. Cleve retired as a millwright leader from Empire Detroit Steel after 30+ years of service. He was a member of United Steelworkers Union Local #169 and the Empire Church of Deliverance. Cleve could often be found engaging in his favorite pastimes of working on cars and woodworking. He especially enjoyed making windmills and bird houses. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, but deer hunting was his favorite. Cleve was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and assisted in building several roads in the Mammoth Hot Springs area of Yellowstone National Park.

He is survived by four sons, Donald (Bonny) Estep of Shiloh, Larry (Mary) Estep of Shelby, Roger (Joan) Estep of Kingsport, Tennessee and Cleve (Joann) Estep, Jr. of Shiloh; grandchildren, David (Kim) Estep of Willard, Scott (Carla) Estep of Kingsport, Tennessee, Jim Estep of Shelby, Jessica Estep of Shelby, Elizabeth (Carl) Brown of Mansfield, Wayne Estep (Charity Archer) of Shelby and Emily; several great-grandchildren; sister, Vadie Phillips of Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews; his closest friend, Irene Clay; and his special waitress at Denny's, Brenda.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mildred Butler Estep, whom he married March 7, 1946 in Maysville, Kentucky; daughters-in-law, Bernice and Laura Estep; and several sisters and brothers.

Friends and family may visit from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Mitchell Prater officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh, with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Veteran's Association.

605 Clifford D. Greenwood
Clifford D. Greenwood, one of the last three surviving Spanish-American War veterans in San Mateo County, died Wednesday night at Sequoia Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Greenwood was 95 years old.
A native of Topeka, Kan. he served in Company D in the U.S. Army Infantry in the Philippine Islands for three years during the Spanish-American War.
Mr. Greenwood, who lived at 175 Orchard Ave., Redwood City, moved here in 1950 from San Francisco. He previously lived in Wisconsin. He retired in 1950 after working as garage manager in Wisconsin and San Francisco.
He was a member of the Topeka Masonic Lodge, Spanish-American War Veterans of Belmont and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Superior, Wisconsin.
Surviving Mr. Greenwood are his wife, Catherine, and a daughter, Mrs. Leota (Billie) Weber of Michigan.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Redwood Chapel, 847 Woodside Road, Redwood City. Interment will follow at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno.

606 Clifford Hoag died of cancer at age 69. He served as superintendent of Fairmount schools for 26 years, retiring in 1973. He often helped provide transportation for students for extracurricular activities and invited them to his home. His accomplishments at Fairmount Grade School include increase in teaching staff, establishment of a hot lunch program, the addition of vocal and instrumental music studies, expansion of the athletic program to include membership in the Little Vermilion and County conferences and membership in the elementary film library. He had been a Fairmount resident since 1947. He and wife Lucille had three children: Clint (Sharon) Hoag, Terry (Norma) Hoag and Pamela (Tim) Tighe. Both Terry and Sharon are deceased. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fairmount and the Fairmount Lions club.

Clinton Enis Hedges, well-known resident of Lewistown, died suddenly at his home there Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock.
He was the son of the late Lewis and Mary Ramsburg Hedges and a member of the Utica Reformed Church, and a member of the Home Department Bible Class of the Church School.
Surviving is a foster son, Vernon Smith, near Braddock. He was the last of his immediate family.
The body is at the funeral home _06 East Church street, where friends may call after seven o’clock this evening. It will remain there until 12:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon at which time it will be removed to Utica Reformed church. Funeral services will be conducted there at 2 o’clock (DST). Interment will be in adjoining cemetery. M.R. Etchison and Son, funeral director.

611 Clyde D. Sparks a servant of Jesus Christ, 90, passed away Monday April 14,2014 on his 90th birthday.

Clyde was born in Dalesburg, Ky to the late Rev. W.T. and Clarice Million Sparks.

Clyde was retired from the Trane Company in Lexington, Ky after 23 years of service as a coil brazier. He was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed the Lord and his word.

Clyde proudly served our County as a Sargent in the US Army during WWII from November 1943 till January 1946.He was attached to the Core of Engineers working in water purification.

Survivors include his daughter Debra (Kim) Fernand of Lexington, Ky, grandson Michael Fernand of Lexington, Ky; sister Bernice Porter of Olathe, Ks; several nieces ,nephews and cousins.

Clyde was preceded in death by his wife Georgia Purcell Sparks; brother Elwood Sparks; sisters Edith Mineer, Virginia Lowe Schwartz and Christine Harmon.

Monticello, Ind. - Services for Clyde E. "Spank" Mays Jr., 70, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Fenn Funeral Home at Kokomo, with calling 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Mays, formerly of Kokomo, died Wednesday.
He was president of Mays Roofing Inc. in Kokomo from 1947 to 1977. He also has served as a building inspector for the Veterans Administration and served on the Howard County Selective Service Board.
In 1987 he established Clyde E. Mays & Associates in Monticello.
A World War II Marine veteran, he was a member of Kokomo First Christian Church, American Legion, 40 & 8, Elks Lodge, Kokomo Country Club and Tippecanoe Country Club at Monticello. He was a member of Scottish Rite, Murat Temple and Antelope Club at Indianapolis.
Survivors - wife Nancy L. Morrow Mays; son Charles Mays; daughters Julie A. Sanderson, Sandra L. Davis; seven grandchildren.

South Haven, Kan., July 6 – T.A. Hedges, for many years a column contributor to the South Haven New Era weekly newspaper under the title ”Brother Hedges Says,” has died at the age of 98.
A native of Kentucky, he attended University of Illinois and Eureka Bible College, after which he entered the ministry of the Christian church. He was married in Illinois to Mary Virginia Adkinson who died six years ago.
The Rev. Mr. Hedges had held church pastorates in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and at one time served as state evangelist in Nebraska and in Missouri.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Heeney of South Haven, and Mrs. Grace Tallman, of Lakin, Kan., and three sons, A.A. Hedges of Wichita, Herbert Hedges of Kansas City, Mo., and Fred Hedges of Moberly, Mo.

622 Connie S. Miller, of Chester, passed into the arms of her Lord on June 20, 2016 at the age of 69 years, 1 month, and 10 days. Connie was born on May 10, 1947 in Mooreland, OK to Lyle Marion and Betty Louise (Hedges) Clayton. She grew up in California attending the Tracy Schools until 10th grade, and graduating from Tehechapi, CA High School with the Class of 1965. She married the love of her life Mack Miller on February 20, 1976 at her parent’s home in Chester, OK. To this union of 40 years, they welcomed two children Shelly Sue Miller and Chris Wayne Miller. She and Mack owned the newspaper for several years, where she worked as an assistant publisher. In her spare time she liked to play board games, and read. In fact, she read so much, she accumulated her own library in her home. Due to failing health Connie had moved to the Seiling Nursing Center for the last 3 years and 11 months.
In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her daughter, Shelley Sue Miller in 1998; son, Chris Wayne Miller in 2016; sister Cathy Cline; and brother, Mike Clayton.
Connie is survived by her husband Mack Wayne Miller of the home; four grandchildren Sierra Miller of Sharon, Ethan Mack Miller of Woodward, Cade Alexander Miller of Woodward, and Dylann Faith Lowery; two brothers, Marc Lyle Clayton and wife Schatze of Chester, Max Ira Clayton and wife Ann of Fredrick; sister in law LeaAnne Clayton as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday June 24, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Elm Grove Community Church with Pastor Orville White presiding. Burial will follow at Cedardale Cemetery.

Alice was a charter member of the Tucson Saguaro Chapter of the American Business Womens Assoc., as well as a member of the Saguaro Christian Church. The Lord put his loving arms around Ruby Cook and took her home May 7, 2009. She was born Jan. 7, 1930, to David L. & Dosha Caudill Lewis. She was preceded in death by her daughter Terri; husband Eugene and sister & brother-in-law Jewell & Willard Mason. She is survived by sister Roberta (Ed) McKenzie of Columbus, OH; brother Willard Lewis and friend Ginnie Wilson of Ashville, OH; sister Gwin (Hugh) Richards of Oak Ridge, TN. Also many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to nephew & niece Randy & Lesley Mason for their love and care. Thank you to many neighbors and friends who gave her great support through the years. Ruby was a beautician who owned her own shop for many years in Hamilton, OH before she retired and moved to Dunedin. Visitation will be 11 am to 1 pm at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens, 1750 Curlew Rd. Dunedin, where service will follow at 1 pm. On Saturday, May 16, 2009. 629 Cora I Kissick Selvy, 86, died Wednesday in Oakwood Health Care Center after a long illness.

Mrs. Selvy was born in Farmers, Ky., and lived in New Castle most of her life. She was employed at Hoosier Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturing Co. for several years.

Survivors include a daughter, Gladys Wadman; a sister, Pearl Collier; a granddaughter, Sharon Weinbelt, who was raised by Mrs. Selvey; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her husband, John W. Selvey, died in 1987. A son, Gene Selvy died in 1988. Four bothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.

Services will be Saturday in Macer-Hall-Pasco Funeral Home. Burial will be in the West Lawn addition of South Mound Cemetery.

Pleasant Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was the husband of Rena Peel Corman. Survivors other than his wife include stepmother Hattie Benge Corman; a daughter, Wanda Davis, Clarksville, TN; a brother, Jerry Corman, Nicholasville; three sisters, Mrs. Kathryne Holman, Mrs. Mildred Hammond, and Mrs. Betty English, all of Nicholasville; a granddaughter, Mrs. Sandra Grubb; and a great-granddaughter, Brooke Ashley Grubb. Services will be held 1 p.m. Wed. at the Guyn, Kurtz, Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Dr. Gayle Toole officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery. F. Thomas Hedges, 74, Sarasota, died April 19, 2003. He was born Nov. 22, 1928, in Whitestown, Ind, and came to Sarasota 22 years ago from Fort Wayne, Ind.

He retired in 1989 as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service, and was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a veteran of the Army and the Navy, and was a member of the Civil War Round Table. He was a Baptist and a lay minister.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, a daughter, stepsons, sisters, brothers, six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Olive Cassity, 100, of Centralia, KS, died May 28, 1997, at the Eastridge Care Home in Centralia.

She was born July 3, 1896, the daughter of Albert and Eunice Dickson, in Paola, KS.

On February 13, 1916, she married Raymond Cassity, in Centralia, KS. They lived in the Wetmore and Centralia areas. Raymond died April 1, 1967.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Centralia, and the United Methodist Women. She was also active in the Kensington Club.

Olive lived in Centralia until the late 1980's, when she moved to Frankfort, KS. Due to failing health and blindness, she moved back to Centralia and lived at the care home until her death.

She is survived by daughters, Gwendolyn Randol, Frankfort, KS; Ramah Sherrer, Springfield, OR; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Floyd Cassity; and daughter, Fern Murdock.

Funeral services were held May 31, 1997, at the Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home, Centralia, KS. Burial was in the Centralia cemetery.

Herschel Gaines, 30 years old, of Knightstown, who was found guilty last week by a jury of attempted rape, was sentenced to serve from five to 21 years in Indiana prison Tuesday and fined $100 and costs. He was taken to Michigan City Wednesday. Sentence had been withheld pending possible motion of a new trial by defense attorneys.

638 Cpl. Grover Bishop Dies In Germany
Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Bishop of 632 East High street have been notified that their son, Cpl. Grover C. Bishop, 32, died April 29 in Germany. The message did not state the cause of death.
Corporal Bishop had seen seven months of active service with General Patton’s Third Army and fought in the Battle of Bastogne. He received the Presidential Unit Citation and other commendations.
The soldier took basic training at Fort Bragg, N.C., Camp Hood, Texas, and Camp Shelby, Miss. He has two younger brothers in service.

639 Cpl. Leonard Hedges S.S. Guard In Austria, Died June 7, There.
Word was received by Mrs. Robert Hedges of Vici, Wednesday from the war department, stating that her son, Cpt. Leonard Hedges, died June 7, 1945. In his last letter to his relatives, dated June 1st in Austria, said he was guarding S.S. troops, and further stated, “You might think the was is over, over here, but if you were where I am, you would think differently.”
Cpl. Hedges, 27-years of age was inducted into service in February, 1941, trained in Field Artillery at Fort Bill and three other camps, before going to Fort Ord, Calif., and sent to the Aleutians for four months. Returning, he visited his relatives and then sent to Fort Bill for three months special training before he was sent in January, 1944 for overseas service in Italy, France and Germany. Other than his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Norman Wildman and Mrs. Lynn Espy, and five brothers, Jess, Gordon and Elmer Hedges of Richmond community; Faye Hedges, Seiling, and Frank Hedges, Taos, N. Mexico.

Cpl. Leonard R. Hedges, T/5, F.A., son of Lucy J. Hedges and the late J.R. Hedges, was born at Cestos, Oklahoma, on January 19, 1918, and died June 7, 1945, at Salzburg, Austria, at the age of 27 years, four months and 18 days.
Cpl. Hedges received his education in the Richmond community and united with the Christian church at an early age.
He entered the services of his country February 24, 1942, and was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., until May of that year when he went to Fort Bragg, N. Carolina. Later that fall he went to Camp Carson, Colo., and from there back to Fort Sill for a three months Saddler’s Course. Then on to Camp Hale, Colo. In the fall of 1943, he was transferred to Camp Ord, Calif., and from there he went to the Aleutian Islands and was in the invasion of Kiska. He returned to the States about Christmas of the same year and after a 30 day furlough, went again to Fort Sill and from there to the European Theater of operation. He served in Italy, France, and Germany and Austria where he met his untimely death. Other than his mother, he leaves to mourn his passing, two sisters, Mrs. N.B. Wildman and Mrs. Lynn Espy of the Cestos community; and five brothers, Jess Hedges and Gordon Hedges, Cestos; F.M. Hedges, Seiling; Frank Hedges, Taos, New Mexico, and Rev. Elmer Hedges, Tempe, Ariz.

642 Crash Kills Two on Monrovia Road
Two Indianapolis persons were injured fatally and two other injured seriously early yesterday when their automobile careened off Ind. 42 east of Monrovia, near the J.L. Martin farm, and crashed against a tree.
Mrs. Laverne Eaker, 27 years old, 823 Sadie street, and Ernest Hedges, 44, formerly of 801 Sadie street, were killed instantly.
Earl Eaker, 28, husband of Mrs. Eaker and half brother of Mr. Hedges, suffered sever cuts and bruises. Mrs. Edna Lovall, 38, Corrill street, a friend of the others were injured seriously.
State police, who investigated the accident, said Mr. Eaker, driver of the car, failed to negotiate a turn in the road and lost control of the car.
Brought to City Hospital
Mr. Eaker and Mrs. Lovall were brought to the City Hospital. Bodies of Mrs. Eaker and Mr. Hedges were returned to Indianapolis yesterday. Mr. Hedges moved from Indianapolis recently and was farming in Morgan county.
He is survived by three children, Pearly June Hedges, Robert Hedges and Joan Hedges, who make their home with a grandmother here; his stepfather, Dedly Eaker, and two half-brothers, Earl Eaker and Robert Eaker, all of Indianapolis.
Surviving Mrs. Eaker, besides her husband, are three children, May Eaker, Earl Eaker Jr., and Raymond Eaker; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Strate of Indianapolis, and a brother, Robert Strate, who is in the army at Fort Warren Wyo.
Double funeral services for Mrs. Eaker and Mr. Hedges will be at __ o’clock Friday afternoon at the Second Free Methodist Church. Both wil be buried in Floral Park Cemetery.

She was born September 1, 1927 in Hillsdale, IN to the late Bert Plank and Evelyn Mildred Crawford. Because she was such a tiny baby her older sisters often said she was no bigger than a "punkin seed" which was later shortened to their lifelong nickname for her, "Punk."

On April 17, 1945 she married Kenneth N. Riggen who died April 6, 1964.

She is survived by her husband of twelve years, Dean Bushong whom she married April 23, 1994 in Mecca, IN.

Other survivors include five sons; Kenneth Riggen and his wife Donna of Brownsburg, IN, Mike Riggen and his wife Glen Ellen of New Market, IN, Roger Riggen and his wife Susie of Indianapolis, IN, Tony Riggen and his wife Joni of Rockville, IN, Terry Riggen and his wife Theresa of Monrovia, IN, three step-sons; Kim Bushong and his wife Donna of Peoria, AZ, Eric Bushong and his wife Sandy of Schererville, IN, Scot Bushong and his wife Terri of Russellville, IN, one step-daughter-in-law Clarice Bushong of Aurora, IL, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, two brothers; Joe Plank of Cape Coral, FL, Jim Plank of Montezuma, IN, three sisters; Pauline Haughee of Rockville, IN, Leota Wilson of Indianapolis, IN and Marlene Manley of Indianapolis, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one step-son-in-law, Kirby Bushong who died March 28, 2007.

She was a homemaker and a Montezuma High School Graduate, also, a member of Charity Baptist Church in Clermont, IN.

Born March 4, 1929 in Claytonville, Illinois he was the son of Elmer James and Lida Ethel (Mumbert) Boyce. On September 10, 1950 he and Doris Weida were united in marriage in Milford, IL.

Wayne was a self-employed insurance claims representative for Frontier Adjusters of America, Phoenix, AZ. He was a founding member of the Indian Grove Country Church in Rock City. He was a board chairman for the First United Methodist Church of Freeport and Cedarville United Methodist Church, board chairman of Dakota Schools for two terms, became a member in 1980 of the Green County Wisconsin Wing Civil Air Patrol, Commander of the 151st unit of Civil Air Patrol, achieved the rank of Major in Civil Air Patrol, President of the Freeport Pilot's Association and was a past instructor for the Dale Carnegie Courses.

Surviving are his wife of Freeport, daughters Sharon (Robert) Knoup of Clear Lake, IA, Christine (David) Huenefeld of Freeport, Melinda (Jeff) Leuthold of Woodland, WA, Cara (Tim) Price of Scales Mound, son David (Stefanie) Boyce of Galena; four grandchildren Ryan (Amy) Knoup, Aaron (Amy) Knoup, Christian Boyce Leuthold, Katya Leuthold; six great-grandchildren Emma, Cooper, Chloe, Elijah, Eden, Everitt; sister Phyllis Joan Focken of Cissna Park.

650 D.R. Gass Buried Friday at Herford Victim Grade Crash
D.R. Gass, 88, was buried Friday afternoon at Hereford, the victim of a grade crossing crash Wednesday morning. His car was hit by a Santa Fe passenger train, badly crushing Mr. Gass.
Mr. Gass has been owner of The City Pharmacy in Canyon for more than 25 years, which has been under the management of his son-in-law, N.E. McIntire. He was a pioneer merchant and farmer of West Texas, and has resided at Hereford since 1898.
Surviving are three sons and five daughters, Charles Gass and Nester Gass, of Hereford, and Claude Ringold Gass, of Tulia; and Mable Gass, Hereford, Mrs. W.B. Anthony of Yoakum, Mrs. Beulah Hutchinson, Tulia, Mrs. N.E. McIntire, Canyon, and Mrs. Dimple Bennet of Amarillo.
