| 2852 | Steven Wyatt Evans, age 68, of Beaumont, passed away on November 4, 2021, at his home. A graveside service will be 1pm, Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Pinecrest Cemetery in Troup, Smith County, Texas. Officiating will be Pastor Kirk Ellender. Born in Jacksonville, Texas, on April 17, 1953, he was the son of Jesse Wyatt Evans and Patsy (Stephens) Evans. Steve was a 1971 graduate of Bridge City High School and went on to attend Stephen F. Austin University. He worked for Valero as an operator for almost 40 years. He enjoyed hunting, cooking, riding his Harley Davidson and listening to country music. Steve was an avid sports fan and could always be found watching his favorite teams, the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. He loved his French Bulldog, Pierre but adored his family most of all. Steve will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Patsy Evans. He is survived by his daughter Jessica Ellender and husband Jadon of Bridge City, Texas, his grandchildren, Anderson Wyatt Ellender, Joliet Ryan Ellender and Austin Everett Ellender. | 2853 | Steward, Opal “Betty” Elizabeth Smith Opal passed away peacefully at home wither family at her side on June 9, 2000 at the age of 88. Born on December 22, 1911 in Madison County, Arkansas to John and Bertha Smith, she lived most of her life in the Pacific Northwest. She graduated from Lewiston High School in Idaho in 1930 and Gonzaga University Sacred Hearth School of Nursing in 1933. On April 7, 1935 she married John A. Steward who died in Del Rey Oaks, CA on July 30, 1962. She served proudly as head nurse at community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula for 15 years until her retirement in 1972. She was an active member of Job’s Daughters Bethel No. 223 in Pacific Grove. She and her family spent summers at Lake Chatcolet in Idaho where she loved to fish. In her retirement, she gave lovingly to her friends and family and traveled with her sister Edith. Opal loved music, cooking, animals and being with people. Although Betty suffered the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease, her spirit was forever youthful and filled with wonder and joy that will never be forgotten. She is survived by her three children Donald L. Steward, Linda A. Rader and Patricia L. Abrams, all of Sacramento; seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Opal is survived by her dear sister Edith J. Caragio of Lewiston, Idaho and brother Jack A. Smith of Tacoma, Washington. She is preceded in death by her brother John H. Smith. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, June 26 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel by the Sea at the Pacific Grove Cemetery in Pacific Grove. | 2855 | Suella Slone Hundley was born on May 12, 1919, in the Kirksville area of Madison County, Kentucky. The youngest child of the late Shade and Margaret Alice Morris Slone, she grew up in Jackson County and lived in Madison and Rockcastle counties in Kentucky. On July 11, 1934, she married Herman Hundley, and they are the parents of Claudia Wren (Boyd), Chrystal Powell (William), and Daphne Baird (Jerry). For most of their married life they lived in Berea, Kentucky, after moving there from McKee, Kentucky, in 1940. Mr. & Mrs. Hundley owned and operated Hundley's Grocery in Berea for twenty-three years. She loved sewing for her family and home, crocheting, crafts, cooking, and growing flowers. In 1987, the Hundleys moved to Rockcastle County. After Mr. Hundley's death in 2003, Mrs. Hundley lived with her daughters. Suella Hundley died on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Rockcastle County Hospital. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Brodhead Nursing Home. Mrs. Hundley was a member of the Berea Church of the Nazarene, and she was a Kentucky Colonel. As well as her husband, six siblings, five brothers and one sister and her parents preceded Mrs. Hundley in death. In addition to her daughters and sons-in-law, she is survived by seven grandchildren: Jerri Laine Wren Ramsey (Gary), Susan Wren Jordison (Lloyd), Melora Wren Jones, Billy Dale Powell (Jo), Penny Sue Powell Hensley (Charlie), Elizabeth Baird Hardy (Michael), and Leah Suzanne Baird. She also leaves six great-grandchildren: Corey Dale Powell, Kasey Powell, Erik Jordison, Austin Jordison, Nathaniel Hardy, and Isabella Hardy. Mrs. Hundley is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, and by many special friends and neighbors. She was a loving, caring, Christian spirit, and she was loved by all who knew her. Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday November 2, 2007 at Lakes Funeral Home in Berea with Rev. Wallace Thornton and Rev. Vaughn Rasor officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. | 2868 | Text from Ancestry: My husbands Aunt Helen (Kratzer) Davis who was born in 1913 and just celebrated her 100th birthday in June 2013, and lives in California. She worked on her family genealogy many years ago, she knew how much I was interested in our family tree and she so graciously gave me her handy work a few years ago and it has been so helpful in my search. There has been a few in Ancestry that get the parents for Edward George Robinson mixed up, and I hope this can clear some of the confusion. Aunt Helens grandfather Edward George Robinson "Ned" as he was called by the family was the son of Julius Robinson and Elizabeth McDaniel. Aunt Helen said they always called her Granny Beth. The McDaniels and Robinson's came from North Carolina, they wereScotch-Irish. Later they moved to Kentucky and made their home there. Granny Beth made her home most of the time with her son Edward and his family. She was a Herb doctor and nurse, she would always walk from house to house nursing the ones in need. She had been thrown from a horse, and left one leg badly injured, she would never ride a horse after that, and would walk every where. Sandra (Mostek) Kratzer 9/23/2013 * * * The story Helen (Kratzer) Davis wrote about her grandfather and entered her story in her little book on the Robinson family, I will share. Her nephew David Kratzer inherited her little book in 2012 that was given to him by his cousin James Davis. Jim is the son of Helen. I wish Helen had put a year down when she entered her stories in the little book. I do know she wrote most of her stories when she was living with her married daughter in California. Today, 2013, she lives in Antelope Valley Care Center, in Lancaster, California. On June 14, 2013 she will be 100 years old. Helen has Alzheimer's Disease and does not recognize her family. Her little book with the pretty rose floral cover hold precious small stories that we will always treasure. Edward was a Union Soldier in Kentucky. In the 7th Army Regiment, Co. B. Fought in the Civil War, from 1861-1864. Met his wife Mary Tennessee Phipps, while serving in the Army for 3 years. Grandfather Edward was injured in one of the battles. He died at the age of 46 in 1888, leaving a wife and 10 children. He died 4 months before his youngest child was born. Edward was buried in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The church had bought a large Tomb Stone for his grave, honoring a Civil War Veteran. The Robinson family attended the Macedonia Baptist Church. Mary Tennessee Phipps was married at the age of 14 to Edward George Robinson. They had 13 children. Their home was in Berea, Kentucky. Their first son was born in the year 1867. She walked away from her home and some where around Burning Springs, Kentucky, grandmother Mary worked for a short time for a farmer and his wife as a housekeeper. This couple took Mary into their home sometime after working for the farmer and his wife. Mary went to work as a waitress in a cafe in Manchester, Kentucky, where she met her husband Charles Wilson Kratzer, who was working as a printer with the newspaper in Manchester, Kentucky. They married on April 12, 1912 in Hamilton Co. Kentucky. After their marriage they moved to Springfield, Ohio where their children, Helen Julia (Kratzer) Davis, Margaret Josephine (Kratzer) Gravette and Charles Wilson Kratzer were born. They later moved to Dayton, Ohio where grandfather Charles worked as a printer and Linotype operator for the Dayton Daily Newspaper in Dayton, Ohio. Mary Jane Kratzer was the daughter of Edward George Robinson and Mary Tennessee (Phipps) Robinson, both born in Clay County, Kentucky. | 2871 | The Breathitt County News, November 8, 1907 Death Claims A. C. Cope Captain A.C. Cope died at his home on Frozen Creek November 8. He was born May 10, 1828, and would have been 80 years of age at his next birthday. He served four years in the Confederate army as Captain in Co. D 5th Kentucky and was in the battle of Chickamauga and several other battles, but escaped without receiving a wound. He was elected to the legislature from this district and served in the session of 1877-78 with credit to himself and his constituents. He has been an invalid for many years and bore up under his afflictions with great courage and fortitude. He was one of our best citizens and his loss will be greatly felt by the people of his community. Margaret had eight children, three sons and five daughters. She loved to bake and today I can still smell the aroma coming from her kitchen from the homemade breads and her delicious cinnamon rolls. She loved and had an ear for music, she herself could play many different instruments. She also knitted and crochet and made many beautiful things. And most of all we enjoyed her poetry she wrote, she was a very talented lady. Margaret was a very loving person with a wonderful sense of humor. Ruth was the owner and operator of Fritts' Beauty Shop on Main Street in Trinway, Ohio where she resided for many years. She was a member of the Trinway United Methodist Church. Mrs. Fritts-Ping was an avid league bowler in Coshocton and Zanesville, as well as in Mt. Vernon, Illinois during the 1970's. Surviving are a daughter, Martha (Richard) Prince of Trinway; two grandsons, Douglas Prince of Trinway and Mark Prince of Dresden; four great grandchildren, Stacey, Kylie, Katie and Sydney Prince, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard M. | 2895 | Two Are Held After Slaying John Clair and Arlie Hatton surrender to Wolfe County Sheriff following ambush killing No Motive Advanced Campton, Ky., June 20 (AP) – Following their surrender to Sheriff Fred Stamper today, John Clair and Arlie Hatton were being held in the Wolfe county jail here charged with murder. The sheriff said the pair told him they had killed R. Boyd Stamper, 40, a prisoner slain from ambush in front of the home of his father-in-law, Taylor Brewer, as he was going to visit his two children. Boyd Stamper who is not related to the sheriff, was in custody of Jailer Omer Booth and Deputy Sheriff Geobel Rice, of Clark county. He was awaiting trail for the alleged slaying of Kelly Shackelford in a school election fight last July. Sheriff Stamper was unable to give a motive for the shooting. He said he found the body “simply riddled with butter holes.” Booth said that as he and Rice left the car in front of the Stamper home a few miles from Slade, several shots rang out and Stamper fell. The officers and Carl Maze, Stamper’s nephew, fled to the woods, became separated, and later met at Slade. Unfamiliar with the country, Booth and Rice decided after their meeting in Slade that it would be futile to attempt to get back to investigate the shooting. Stamper was taken to Winchester in April facing an arson charge, in addition to the charge resulting from the shooting of Shackelford. He had also been under a peace bond. | 2896 | Two Are Jailed In Slaying Case Clark County Prisoner Killed In Wolfe While Visiting Children Campton, Ky, June 30 – (AP) – John Clair and Arlie Hatton were held in the Wolfe county jail here today under charges of murder following their surrender to Sheriff Fred Stamper who said they made the simple statement they had killed R. Boyd Stamper, 40, a prisoner who fell in a surprise rain of bullets in front of his home as he arrived in custody of Clark county officers for a visit to his two children. Sheriff Stamper said the men added nothing to the statement and that he told them he had no prerogative but to put them in jail. The sheriff later went to the home of Boyd Stamper, who is not a relation of his, and said he found the body “just full of bullet holes.” Asked how many shots had struck the man, Sheriff Stamper replied: “That would be hard to tell – he was simply riddled.” The sheriff was unable to say what had precipitated the trouble and did not know whether the two men and Boyd Stamper had ever harbored ill feeling. “I didn’t ask them anything much about it,” said the sheriff. Jailer Omer Booth and Deputy Sheriff Goebel Rice, of Clark county, had taken Boyd Stamper, held in the Clark county jail to await trail in Breathitt county on a killing charge, into Wolfe county on an order of Circuit Judge J.
