Containing the records of the family of Burtis and Hannah (Rector) Ringo, the Bible passed to their youngest daughter, Susan Ringo Owens, and to Susan Owens’ daughter, Sallie Ann Owens Overly, and thence to Sallie Overley’s granddaughter, Lola May Overley Rawlings, of Denison, Kansas. The Inscriptions were transcribed by Allen Gardiner in 1973 and were printed in the Topeka Genealogical Society Quarterly, vol.4, #1, January 1974, pp.17-19. * * * The information referring to Lot W. Ringo are: Page 1, column 2, (Marriages) Lot W. Ringo married Mary D. Clack the 10th Day of September AD 1815. Page 2, column 1 (Births) Lot W. Ringo borne the 17 of March 1795. Page 5, column 1 (Deaths) Lot W. Ringo Died the 15 Day of September 1925 aged 30 yeares 5 months & 29 Days. Note: Burtis and Hannah (Rector) Ringo migrated from Culpepper and Fauquier Counties, Virginia in the early 1800s to Fleming County, Kentucky, where they passed the remainder of their days. They, along with other members of the family were buried on their own farm near Belle Grove Springs. In the late 1970s this land was converted to reservoir use and the graves and gravestones were moved. Descendants of the family petitioned to have these stones move to the city cemetery at Flemingsburg, the county seat, where many later descendants were already buried. Ancestry.com. Born at Linneus, Mo., he had resided in the Brookfield, Mo., area before moving to St. Joseph 30 years ago. He was the son of the late Manley and Opal Bagley Buckman. He had retired six years ago as secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local No.460 after 18 years of service. A member of the East Hills Church of Christ and King Hill Lodge No.276, A.F.&A.M., he was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Marge Buckman, of the home, a daughter, Cheryl Ann George, St. Joseph; a brother, Donald M. Buckman, Denver, Colo.; two grandsons and several nieces and nephews. | 467 | California Man Died In Oklahoma Hospital Daniel M. Nickell, of Napa, California, passed away at the Will Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tuesday, May 20, 1947. The remains were brought here and funeral services were held at the Hill Funeral Home Friday afternoon, May 23, 1947, conducted by Rev. William Icenogle, and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery. Daniel M., son of J.H. and Elizabeth Nickell, was born in Browning, Missouri, September 18, 1899. On August 16, 1937, he was united in marriage with Miss Ruby Lee McCourty, in Denver, Colorado. Mr. Nickell is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Lee Nickell, and two daughters, Shirley Jean and Lind Suzanne Nickell, of the home in Napa, California. Other survivors are his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Nickell, of this city; three sisters, Mrs. Loy Slater, Mendon, Missouri; Mrs. Zelma Sufflebean, Rothville, Missouri; Mrs. Lucille Williams, Browning, Missouri; two brothers, Carl Nickell, Rothville, Missouri; Kenneth Nickell, Brookfield, and a host of other relatives and friends. In early manhood he became a member of the Christian Church at Browning. Mr. Nickell was a lathe machinist for the Burlington here in Brookfield for ten years, being transferred to Greybull, Wyoming where he was employed for four years. While there he became a civil service employee and was sent to Rock Island, Illinois, for two years, then transferred to Mare Island, California, where he had been a tool maker at the Mare Island Navy Yard for the past seven years. He came to Brookfield April 1, to visit his parents, and on April 12 was admitted to the McLarney Hospital for treatment. He was later transferred to the Will Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City. Mr. Nickell was a member of the Jackson Lodge, A.F. & A.M., No. 82 in Linneus, the Linn Chapter No.41, R.A.M., Brookfield, and the Coeur de Leon Commandery, No.14 of Brookfield. He was also a member of American Veterinary Assoc., California Veterinary Assoc., St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 741, Elks Club 2795 Oxnard, Las Posas Country Club and Colorado State University Alumni Assoc. He is survived by his wife Norma Meyer of Camarillo, daughter Marilyn Moore of Ventura; son-in-law Sammie Moore of Ventura; grandson and wife Dexter and April Haney; granddaughter and husband Kelli and Chris Cummings, and great-grandchildren, Britni, Justin and Coty, all of Ventura. Carey was one of the pioneer settles of Rowan county, having lived here before this county was organized. He served as Captain in the Union army during the Civil war. He was also County Judge of this county for two terms shortly after its organization, and was always prominent in Rowan county politics. He leaves a widow and five children, among them are: J.M. | 477 | Capt. P.T. Hedges dies at Tilton Pioneer resident of Oakwood township passes away at home of daughter Capt. Peter T. Hedges, 92, for many years a resident of Oakwood township, who for the past two years had been making his home with his daughter Mrs. Ida Cronkhite, 1007 South H Street, Tilton, died late ….rsday afternoon at the home of his daughter, death being due to …. Ity and followed by a long illness … had been practically an invalid since 191….. Funeral services were held at the residence Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, in charge of Rev. A.F. deCafferly, pastor of the First Church of Christ. Burial will be in Canton, Mo. At one time the home of the deceased, his wife having been buried there a number of years ago. The body will leave over the Wabash railroad Saturday morning at 7:45 and funeral services will be held in the Missouri city Sunday. Capt. Hedges was the father of eight children, two sons and six daughters. One son and five daughters survive, as follows: Rev. T.A. Hedges of Thomas, Okla; Mrs. Ida Cronkhite, Tilton; Mrs. Blanch Brown, Grenader, Miss; Mrs. Alice Firebaugh, Medaryville, Ind.; Mrs. Myrtle Denger, Orchard, Ia., and Mrs. Mattie Horn, Canton, Mo. He is also survived by two brothers, William R. Hedges, of Purdin, Mo. And Isaac A. Hedges, of Madera, Calif. Twenty-two grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Capt. Hedges was born in Fleming County, Ky. Jan. 29, 1831, being one of ten children of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Hedges. He grew to manhood in that county and united in Marriage with Miss Mary W. Vawter in 1857. When the civil war broke out he enlisted in the ….. Kentucky Volunteer …. And served until 1864 being discharged because of wounds received in the battle of Resaca, Ga. While serving under Sherman on the celebrated march to the sea. Following his discharge from the Union army he came to Illinois, settling in Oakwood township in the fall of 1864, where he resided for 32 years, moving to Pulaski county, Ind. In 18 ….. After a residence of 12 years in Indiana the family moved to Canton, Mo., where the wife and mother died in 1912. Mr. Hedges came back to Illinois in 1922 and went to the home of his daughter in Tilton. He was a devout Christian and since he was 20 years old had been a member of the Church of Christ. | 478 | Capt. P.T. Hedges Dies In Illinois Deceased Was Father of Rev. T.A. Hedges, Pastor of Christian Church. Capt. P.T. Hedges, aged ninety-three years, five months and seven days, died at his home in Danville, Ill., Thursday of last week. He was a father of Rev. T.A. Hedges, pastor of the First Christian church of Thomas. Rev. Hedges left here June the 10th and arrived in Danville at 1 p.m. the following day. His father knew him and conversed with his son regarding that he would be kept on the go to return to Thomas in time to preach the following Sunday. Mr. Hedges emphasized the fact that he wished his son to carry on his preaching, consequently when Mr. Hedges died the Rev. Hedges left Danville and arrived home Saturday and delivered a sermon Sunday morning at a joint meeting of Thomas and Hydro Christian churches which was held on Bear creek. Rev. A.A. He was born June 13, 1918 in Farrington Township, Jefferson County, IL, the son of Harry Thomas and Cora Elizabeth (Williams) Ellis. He married Amy Elfreda Crouch on April 1, 1936 in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was employed by Del Monte for 36 years and later was employed by J. P. Faivre Farms in DeKalb, IL. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII. He was a member of American Legion Post 66 and the DeKab Moose Club. He is preceded in death by a sister, Effie Wiggins and his parents. Funeral services will be at 1 1 :00 a.m., Thursday, June 22, 1995 at the Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, IL, with the Reverend Dennis Campbell of the Foursquare Church officiating. | 481 | Carl Clark Crouch, Marina resident Carl Clark Crouch of Marina died Tuesday at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula from heart disease. He was 68. Mr. Crouch was a native of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and lived in Monterey County for 32 years. He was a logistics manager at Fort Ord for 28 years. He served in the Army from 1944 to 1965 and retired as sergeant first class. Mr. Crouch was past president of the Lions Club of Marina, a member of American Legion Monterey Cypress Post No.694 in Marina and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Monterey. He was a volunteer and coach with the Monterey Bay Little League. Mr. Crouch is survived by his wife, Margarita Crouch of Marina; two sons, Robert Clark Crouch and Arthur Carl Crouch, both of Salinas; two daughters, Linda Elaine Mase of Marina and Monica Evelyn Young of Salinas; two brothers, George Crouch and Fred Crouch, both of Heber Springs, Ark.; four sisters, Margaret Ann Harville of Phoenix, Ariz., Bertha Osborne of Chandler, Ariz., Betty Ems of Meridian, Miss., and Charlotte Allen of Queen creek, Ariz.; and his granddaughter. | 482 | Carl Hunt Published: Tuesday, February 12, 2008 9:19 AM CST Kenneth "Carl" Hunt, 86, of South Shore, Ky., awoke with our Lord on Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at South Shore, Ky. Mr. Hunt was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Greenup County at Walsh, Ky., the youngest son of the late Godfrey "Harry" Hunt and Nellie Harr Hunt. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Clarence and Raymond Hunt; and one sister, Lucille Hunt Miller. He raised his family as a proud farmer for many years, and received an honorary commissioner of agriculture from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He retired from Greenup County Schools as a school bus driver. He was a member of South Shore Old Regular Baptist Church. He was a WWII Army veteran serving in the European Theater, where he fought in five major battles, including Normandy Beachhead and Battle of the Bulge. He was in the 83rd Infantry division and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Ota Bentley Hunt; four children, Harry (Gloria) Hunt of Raceland, Ky., Laura (David) Kiser of Hamlin, W.Va., Lois (Phillip) Coyle of Richmond, Ky., and Paul (Connie) Hunt of South Shore, Ky.; one sister, Mabel Bosley, 95, of South Shore, Ky.; one brother, Morris Hunt, 90, of South Shore; eight grandchildren, Melanie (Jason) Tolliver, Craig (Paula) Hunt, Geffrey (Bevin) Kiser, Karan (Benjie) Smith, Traci (Scott) McIntosh, Brian (Shanna) Reeder, Matthew (Tessa) Hunt and Michael (Brandi) Hunt; 10 great-grandchildren, Justin and Josie Tolliver, Hayden Hunt, Keely and Anna Kiser, David and Kailyn Smith, Morgan and Tanner McIntosh, and Brady Reeder; and several nieces and nephews. Burial was in the Purdin cemetery, under the direction of Bowden Rhodes Funeral Home. The son of David and Mary L. (Buswell) Monroe, he was born May 2, 1901, in Shelby. On June 3, 1922, he was married to Alta Mae Bagley. She died in January 1977. Mr. Monroe was a member of the Grove Hill Baptist Church. | 497 | Carolyn Brain is Dead at 83; Rites Pending Mrs. Carolyn Brain, 83, of 604 NW 17, died in an Oklahoma City rest home Thursday. She crushed a vertebra in an accidental fall last February and had been hospitalized most of the time since. Born at McAlester, Mrs. Brain lived all her life in Oklahoma. She was a member of the Episcopal Church. She organized the Beauceant, an organization for wives of 32nd degree Masons here, and belonged to the Colonial Dames and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a charter member of the Motherhood Culture Club. Her husband, Clarence Brain, died about six years ago. | 498 | Carolyn Harding September 23, 1934 - August 31, 2019 Carolyn Ann Bagley Harding passed away to heaven at 84 on August 31st, 2019 after battling Alzheimer’s for a number of years. She was preceded to heaven by her husband of 60 years, Jim Harding. Carolyn was born at home in Browning, Missouri on September 23, 1934 to Edna Mae Harper Bagley and Chester Bagley. Carolyn had one brother, John Bagley (Mary) who survives. Carolyn spent her early life in Kirksville, Missouri where her father owned a loan company. She spent many happy Sundays with her grandparents and relatives in Purdin, Missouri. Carolyn graduated from Kirksville High School. She graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia in three years with a degree in Business Administration. She would later receive a Masters in Business Administration from William Woods University in 1996 at the age of 62. Carolyn’s first job was in St. Louis at the Federal Reserve Bank. She married her husband Jim in 1959. Carolyn quit working to raise her children for ten years. She then worked for Mark Twain Bank in St. Louis. She became a real estate salesperson and worked for Century 21 in Kirksville when the family moved there in 1974. After 15 years as a realtor, Carolyn also became a Real Estate broker, Stockbroker, Loan Processor, and Mortgage Officer. She also taught at various community colleges including Moberly Area Community College and William Woods University. Carolyn won a variety of sales and leadership awards throughout her life. She was very active and a leader in her community including United Way Drive Chairperson, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce in Kirksville, National and Missouri Association of Realtors, Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Altrusa Club, Toastmasters Club, Victim Support Services Board, and RSVP board. Carolyn was a member of the FUMC in Kirksville and sang in the choir for 52 years. Carolyn was an avid walker and reader. She enjoyed going to plays, dancing, shopping, traveling, and playing board games and cards as well as spending time with her husband and family. She was a lifelong learner and loved meeting new people. She was a loyal friend and especially compassionate to those who were ill. In addition to her brother, Carolyn is survived by her daughter Susan Elizabeth Harding Sells (Mark), son, John David Harding (Becky). Grandchildren include Ben Sells, Jacob Sells (Marida), Marybeth Sells, Caroline Harding Ritter (Evan), J.D. Harding, and Kate Harding. Services for Carolyn will be held Friday, September 6th, at First United Methodist Church in Kirksville. A visitation for friends and family will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a memorial service following at 12:00 pm. A private family burial will follow the services at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
