2555 Lois Nadine Graham was born in Hong Kong British Territory August 3, 1921. Her parents, Richard Cameron and Mary Belle (Edgar) Adams were missionaries to China. When the communist regime required all missionaries to leave, the family moved to the Cache Creek Indian Mission in Apache OK. Lois grew up there and on March 27, 1942 she married E.E. (Bud) Graham at the mission with her father officiating.
After their marriage, Bud and Lois moved to Wichita KS where both worked for Beech Aircraft during World War II. They moved to Topeka KS where they continued to build their dairy and Lois worked as an accountant for a local car dealership. While living there, they adopted son William (Bill). Tired of the cold winters and not liking that Lois had to work outside the home, they sold their farm and cows and moved to Phoenix AZ in 1954. There they were instrumental in the growth of a new RPCNA (Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America) congregation and adopted son Timothy. Later they began attending the Laveen Baptist Church and were very active members there.

Though tiny in stature, Lois was a giant spiritually and graciously served her Lord faithfully as wife, mother and homemaker. She selflessly served others performing hospice duties, working in a Women’s Alcohol Rehabilitation Mission, working political polls, teaching Sunday School, leading women’s Bible studies, and working with church youth groups. Those who knew her will remember her for her kindness to all, her bright eyes, her infectious giggle, and her love for the Lord.

2573 Margaret Moranville, known as "Margie", left the confines of this world on Friday October 30, 2015, after a rich and fulfilling life of 90 years. As Margie approached death due to Alzheimer's, she was surrounded by the loving and devoted care of Friends for Life; The Gardens at St. Elizabeth; Wind Crest Continuing Care in Highlands Ranch; Suncrest Hospice; long time friends and family. Due to the efforts of all these people, Margie's final years were made comfortable and happy and, for this, the family will always be eternally grateful. The funeral mass for Margie will take place at St. Joan of Arc Church in Arvada(12735 W. 58th Ave.) on November 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. followed by reception in the church hall and internment at Mt. Olivet
Cemetery in Wheat Ridge.

Margie always referred to herself as "an Arvada girl". Except for the first two years and the last five years of Margie's life, her home was always Arvada, Colorado. All in all, Margie lived 83 years of her life in Arvada. Margie Moranville came from humble stock-the daughter of a coal miner and farmer. She was born in a coal mining camp in a place called Serene Colorado on January 3, 1925 to immigrants from Croatia, Mary and Philip Stefanich. Margie always said, "Yes, I was born in Serene but you can't call me Serene!" Margie was a toddler when her parents brought her to Arvada. She worked along side her two sisters (Kate and Mary) and two brothers (Phil and John) on the Stefanich family truck farm on Simms Road. When Margie wasn't in school at Fremont Elementary or Holy Family High School, she could be found tending livestock (turkeys and cows) or picking asparagus and other crops from dawn to sunset. She always loved gardening as a result, but the great depression and frugality burned in her soul. When WWII came along, she worked in a factory as a "Rosie the Riveter" type gal operating a punch press. In fact, it was at General Iron Works in Denver where Margie met her future husband, Walter Moranville.

Margie waited for Walter for four years while he served in the Merchant Marines. Subsequently, Margie and Walter married in 1946 at St. Ann's in Arvada. After a brief interlude in Denver, the couple moved to Simms Road in Arvada where they built a home on an acre and half of ground given to them by Margie's parents as a wedding gift. On Simms Rd., Margie and Walt raised their two children, Ellen Moranville Clark (born in 1947) and John Moranville (born in 1948). Margie was never a "stay at home Mom". She continued working in a factory-primarily Anderson & Forrester-while her mom, Grandma Mary babysat Ellen and John next door. When Simms Rd. became a busy thoroughfare, Margie moved to a home on West 59th Place in February of 1987. It was the same day her husband,Walter, died.

Margie always supported her church-St. Ann's and later on, St. Joan of Arc. She was on the Finance Committee at St. Ann's Credit Union that later became Northwest Federal Credit Union. Margie took great delight in volunteering for various committees at St. Ann or St. Joan, baking cakes for funerals and being a contributing member of the Senior Group. When people thought of Margie, they often referred to her as a "good partier" and being very generous. For parties, she intensely enjoyed St. Joan of Arc bowling parties with trips to the Red Lobster afterwards. As an aside, Margie was a great bowler with many 300 games to her credit. Her Pinochle card parties - that began when she was a parishioner at St. Ann and continued when she became a member of St. Joan of Arc-functioned for close to 50 years. These gatherings were filled with laughter and enduring friendships. Her many trips with family-primarily to Ireland, Italy and across the west with Devon Moranville; five grandchildren and their spouses - Teresa Clark and her grandson, Will-were always a "party on wheels" and defined by her jokes and story telling. Regarding Margie's generosity of spirit, she had the family record for the number of Afghans crocheted for family and friends (60) and the number of Croatian potica loaves baked at Christmas (dozens). As she lived out her final years at Gardens at St. Elizabeth and Wind Crest, residents and staff at both places always commented on Margie's sunny disposition and how they thoroughly enjoyed being around her. Margie loved her family and friends with all her heart. This love is her abiding legacy.

Margie is survived by: Ellen Clark (daughter)and son-in-law, Bill Clark; John Moranville (son)and daughter-in-law, Dave Ruminski, Samantha Moranville and Steve Liebowitz,Sarah Moranville, Will and Kristin Clark, Abbey Moranville Lasota;two great granddaughters-Antonia Ruminski and Ellie Clark; Margie's sister, Mary Tilp and her husband, Paul Tilp; her sister-in-law, Jean Mund and her husband, Hal; and numerous nieces and nephews across the USA.

Margie always loved gardening, raising her own vegetables and assisting the poor and vulnerable. To honor Margie, donations may be made to The Sustainable Living Foundation (501c3), 156 Marvin Ave. Los Altos, CA 94022. Please stipulate on the check: Paraguay Garden Project or Zimbabwe Orphans. 2578 Marian Staver remembered for her spirit and creativity
BY PJPENT
JUNE 11, 2009 1:31 PM PT

Longtime Del Mar resident Marian Staver, whose generosity, creativity and caring nature was felt throughout the community, died May 19 of complications from Alzheimer’s disease. She was 86.

“She was a major influence on Del Mar being developed as an aesthetic and quiet community,” friend Doug Allred said.

While her husband, Ralph Staver, took a more public role in civic affairs, serving on the Del Mar City Council, Allred said Marian’s eye for beauty and love of the natural environment was equally significant.

He credits the progressive couple with inspiring him to help save Seagrove Park and incorporate as many trees as possible in the development of Del Mar Woods.

“They were a team,” Allred said. “They had a deep love for Del Mar, and doing things that would make Del Mar special.”

Staver was born on Jan. 22, 1923, in Los Angeles. Orphaned at 13, she lived with her aunt when not at boarding school. She earned a philosophy degree from Stanford University in 1945 and married Ralph Staver three years later.

“They liked to laugh,” said daughter Ann Irwin of her parents. “They could be silly together.”

The couple first came to Del Mar in the late 1940s, renting a home on the beach, but did not move here permanently until 1964. They lived on a beautiful oceanfront property at the south end of the city, where they often hosted community meetings, parties and fundraisers.

“She was always extremely generous in giving of her home and garden for meetings, lunches,” said Marnie Mahoney, a friend and fellow Del Mar Garden Club member. “That would always include a train ride.”

Ralph Staver, who loved trains, installed a miniature railroad that wound through their property. Children and adults alike - be it for school field trips, parties or Irwin’s wedding reception departure - delighted in the whimsical attraction.

Their imagination did not stop there - Marian’s stunning gardens also included a hedge labyrinth.

Marian Staver was a woman of many interests, but music was her favorite by far, Irwin said. An accomplished pianist, she also played a pipe organ in her home.

“We grew up with every type of music conceivable,” Irwin said.

Marian was an active supporter of the San Diego Opera, underwriting new compositions and spearheading fundraising campaigns. She was also a founding member of the Del Mar Garden Club, a former president of the Wednesday Club and member of the philanthropic organization PEO Sisterhood.

However, Marian’s greatest love was for her family. She raised six children, and enjoyed baking cookies, sewing doll outfits, and spending time with her 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

“Having a big family and keeping us all close was very important to her,” Irwin said.

Marian Staver is survived by her daughter Ann Irwin and her four sons: Dan, Tom, John and Larry Staver and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph and her son James.

2581 Marion Max Yoho, 82, died on Saturday, April 22, 2017, in his Topeka home, surrounded by caring family. Max was born on June 18, 1934, in Colony, Kansas, the son of Lloyd George Yoho and Nellie Lenore (Christenberry) Yoho. His parents, his sister, Donna Jean (Yoho) Mar, and his first wife, Rosemary Ann (Carter) Yoho, preceded him in death.

Max lived in Colony until the age of ten. His family moved to Atchison, Kansas, where his father served as a flagman for the Santa Fe Railroad.

He survived being severely burned by gasoline in 1946 at the age of eleven. After a full year of recovery, involving a six-month stay at Topeka’s Security Benefit Hospital, Max felt the ordeal helped him understand what is important in life and what is not. He also became a frequent blood donor, appreciating the blood he had received as a burn patient.

In 1947, the family moved to Topeka where Max attended East Topeka Jr. High and graduated from Topeka High in 1953. He married Rosemary Ann (Carter) Yoho on August 15, 1954. The Yohos had three sons: Alex, Stuart and Nicholas. Max spent his career as a machinist, working several years for Brackett Stripping Machine Company, then working thirty-three years at the Topeka Goodyear Plant where he was a long-time member of what is now United Steelworkers Local 307. Rosemary preceded him in death in 1988. After eight years as a widower, Max married Carol (Martin) Yoho.

Max was a musician who played guitar, harmonica, banjo, baritone horn, and sang. He was fascinated by, collected and restored antique brass instruments. He also composed various songs he performed.

He was also a craftsman of metal and wood. He built several steam engines, a grandfather clock case in which he assembled the clock as a wedding gift for his son Alex. He built several kaleidoscopes and made display cases for his friends’ antique collections. He also handcrafted his home’s mantelpiece from walnut.

Max was an avid collector of German military artifacts, which prompted his study of the German language and culture. He became a world traveler, visiting Germany, Switzerland, England, Scotland, and Central America. When visiting Belize he was struck by their simple needs. Back in Kansas he collected several mimeograph machines and various other needed items and shipped them to a hospital facility in Belize. Later trips included visits to Cancun and Chichen Itza. He also visited various tourist spots within the Canadian Rockies, including Yoho National Park.

He enjoyed boating, and over time, owned a canoe, built his own sailboat, owned a cabin cruiser and a houseboat.

In the late 1970s Max volunteered at Topeka State Hospital. He participated in a socialization program for patients, where he became a friend and mentor to many.

Always an avid reader, Max also became a craftsman of the written word. He was known both for his humor and as a serious writer. His writing was supported in the late 1950s at Washburn University by his freshman composition teacher, Marilyn Jurich, who helped him get a job writing humorous columns for the student newspaper. Much later he embarked on a career as writer, after becoming a widower and retiring from his work as a machinist. He was a member of the “A Table for Eight” Topeka writers group and also a long-time member of Kansas Authors Club. His poetry and short stories were printed many times in the 1990s in Inscape, the Washburn University literary journal. His work was also printed in regional literary journals: The Midwest Quarterly and The Little Balkans Review (whose editors nominated one of his short stories for a Pushcart Prize in 2009).

Max’s published novels include: The Revival, Tales from Comanche County, The Moon Butter Route, With the Wisdom of Owls, and Me and Aunt Izzy. His collection of poems, essays and short stories is Felicia, These Fish Are Delicious.

Both The Revival and The Moon Butter Route won J. Donald Coffin Awards of the Kansas Authors Club, and The Moon Butter Route was picked as a Kansas Notable Book by the Kansas State Library in 2006. He is the only Kansas author to have had two books, The Moon Butter Route and The Revival chosen as the Kansas Center for the Book's "Favorite Kansas Books" list. His literary career is also covered online on a Wikipedia page.

He was awarded an "ARTY" Award by ArtsConnect of NE Kansas in May 2011, as "Distinguished Literary Artist." In October 2013, he was presented with their Achievement Award for his career as a writer by the Kansas Authors Club.

Max is survived by his second wife, Carol (Martin) Yoho; sons Alex (Sherry) Yoho, Stuart (Annabelle) Yoho, and Nicholas Yoho. His six grandchildren are Eli Lee Bargmann, Jeremy Caldwell Yoho, Delaney Brooke (Shane) Gliser, Joshua Gabriel Yoho, Emily Marie Yoho-Coffman (Justin Coffman), and Sarah Kassidy Yoho. His six great grandchildren are Gideon Lucas Yoho-Lufkin, Joel Elliot Yoho, Samuel Alexander Gliser, Julia Brooke Gliser, Sophia Cayden Gliser, and Beau Allen Coffman. He will be remembered fondly by all of those whose lives he touched.

A memorial service will be held in Max’s honor on Monday, May 1, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Southwest, at 1:00 PM. A reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Humanities Council, Columbian Financial Services LLC, 112 SW 6th Ave, Topeka, KS 66603.
