Mildred M. Queen, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Friday, May 20, 2016, at Mosaic Life Care.
She was born May 20, 1923 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
She graduated from Central High School Class of 1941 and attended the Kansas City Art Institute where she was the winner of a scholarship in fashion designing. Her admission to the school had come as a surprise, courtesy of a high school art teacher who had seen her promise as an artist and applied on her behalf by submitting some of her work. Although she was accepted, her time at the Institute was short due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor that occurred during her first year there and the hard realities that came with the wartime economy that followed.
Decades later, Ms. Queen still creates art

Bessie May Gritten was born March 24, 1890, near Danville and died at 9 o'clock, Oct. 5, 1903, aged 13 years, 6 months and 11 days. She was the eldest daughter of John Gritten. Three weeks ago she became ill of typhoid fever and all that loving hands could do was done and her recovery seemed possible until Friday when the disease took a serious turn. Throughout her entire sickness she was an example of Christian patience and fortitude, although her suffering at last was intense until peaceful sleep came to her relief. Her mother died a year ago and Bessie was left to keep house and though so young, kept the family together and attended school, where she was greatly loved by teacher and schoolmates. Always kind and loving, she early evinced a desire to become a Christian and was baptized in 1902 by J.J. Cosatt and has since been a member of Union church.

Besides loving friends and schoolmates she leaves three brothers, Elvin, Earnest and Ross, the latter just recovering from typhoid fever, Grace and her grief stricken father who have the heart felt sympathy of the entire community. But in this sad hour of grief and sadness let us not forget that their has been a happy meeting between mother and child in out beautiful home beyond. We wouldn't call her away, although how much we all miss her. Her noble and sweet young life has been spent and hers is the victory.

5199 Odell Woman Is Found Dead
Paralytic Stroke Proves Fatal To Mrs. Sarah H. Gritton.
Odell, Ill (Special) - A paralytic stroke was blamed by a coroner's jury last night for the death of Mrs. Sarah H. Gritton, 64, who was found dead in her home here yesterday afternoon.
The body was discovered by her former husband, John Dondier, who for the past year, had been assisting with the chores about the premises. He was attracted to the house when he found the lights in one of the rooms burning. On investigation he found the body, fully clothed, on the floor, and the radio operating.
Authorities were notified and the body removed to an undertaking establishment where the inquest was held last evening. There was no evidence of violence, while the condition of the body indicated that she had been dead for some time.
Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock this afternoon from the Methodist church. Burial followed in Odell cemetery.
She is survived by her former husband, John Dondier, to whom she was married in 1892, a son Joseph Dondier, of Joliet, and a brother J.W. Burch, of Griffin, Ga. Her second husband, Charles Gritton, to whom she was wed in 1916, and a son Frank, preceded her in death.
The daughter of Thomas and Mary Burch, she was born November 18, 1872, in Odell township, and had spent her entire life in that locality.
